Guys I have reached 2k km. So now what to be the optimal rpm shift that does not affect performance and mileage? Right now I shit at 4000rpm.

Also another query, I thought of getting ecu update due to throttle lag but my bike shows 5.5k limiter, does that mean my bike is already updated?

    • Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 knocking problem

I got this bike on 27th October and last week I did the first service. Now I am facing an issue. Whenever engine gets heated up (after travelling for 25-30 kms), the engine knocks while accelerating at low RPM (2-2.5k) especially in second gear. After crossing 3000 RPM knocking sound vanishes.
The sound doesn’t come when the engine is cool even at low RPMs. When I asked about this matter with authorised service station, they said that knocking is common in HET engines and it is because of valve expansion, he said that it is not a problem.
Actually I am not satisfied with his answer. Please let me know that whether this is common when engine gets heated up or is there any problem in my bike. My total odometer reading is 1250 kms and I never crossed 6000 RPM so far.

4k rpm is the preferred shift point now u can easily shift at 5k rpm since u are done with run in. 5.5k limiter means u have anew and pre updated bike. But still get the ecu update fro lag issue and if it still persist then in the under side of tank cap there are 2 rubber washers and some kind of ring get those removed. Also get the cap key hole o ring and key hole air vent hole cleaned up.

Knocking or jerk plz elaborate what type of knock. Some it does jerks at second gear and yes the service guys are somewhat right as below 3k rpm the power delivery is jerky and after 3.5k rpm from where the power band starts it gets better.
Start riding in 3.5 to 5k rpm zone and then notice and if u still feel knocks or tik tik get valve clearance and teppet adjustment done.

In new bike the 4k to 5k rpm zone is the vibrations zone after some time it will improve and then 4.5 to 5k zone is the viby zone post 5k rpm the engine gets smoother.
Get the gear lever , break paddle tightened up also the engine mounting bolts. And some tank vibrations are normal.
Notice at what rpm u feel the vibrations.

Guys...please tell me when should I go for 1st service. As the manual say to do at about 500km-750km or 30-45 days. Its already 35 days and i've ridden my bike around only 300km. So should I wait for completing atleast 500km or go for service according to days. I think it's the kilometers that matter not the number of days. Guide me. Thanks.

According to the manual book the service interval which is mentioned is 500-750 or 30-45 days that means whichever earler first..So i suggest you to do your first Service as its already 35 days completed.

Just to add on. Knocking does occur in any vehicle when lugged, meaning when excess throttle is applied but the vehicle runs at an extremely slow pace, the effect is more pronounced in engines with higher cubic capacity. Being a new bike, never lug the engine, vary the engine RPM, take the RPMs up and down, by varying the speed. Try shifting when the shift lights throws up on the dash, would help you in getting your shifts right.

Whichever is earlier, going by the manual later helps moments of regret when it comes to servicing and or warranty claim in case of mechanical or a any gremlins that the vehicle might throw up.

                    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                    THE END

Since my Chasis number is exactly the same except mine has last four digits as 16438, I ought to get a 116 ecu update.
How does the update affect the overall performance of the bike @ljs
By the way I bought my bike on 27 june

116 is good smooth and lag free . Initially the throttle would feel bit heavy but there is no change acceleration is slightly better very slightly.

Hey guys, done 1st service + 300 km totally 800 kms now. Still the vibrations persist, thankfully gear shifting was smooth now.

But the vibrations in foot peg, handle bar, seats (even for pillion ) taking away the ride quality.

I can even see the handle bar vibration in neutral idle rpm like those enfield.

Note- while riding bike feel smoth till 4 k rpm for all gears. Vibrations, buzz kicks in once rpm reach 4k in all the gears.

Is this normal or should i report this to service center?

Then please suggest chain lube other than motul...
