Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread

Hello guys. Took delivery of this beast yesterday. I m a previous owner of Pulsar 220 and Pulsar 200 NS.
Getting a rattling sound at the back while hitting small potholes.Roads here are not good. Can someone also show me where the idling RPM needle is located. My bike is idling way too high. Cheers.

It's 1500 on both conditionsOriginally posted by zequirkynetizen View PostJust check what's your idle rpm reading (both hot and cold).
And I don't think adding ABS would be possible or at least cost effective.
Yesterday I had my first service ,they changed the oil ,oil filter and adjusted clutch.. chain cleaned and chain oiled.
Now I feel more smoothness after first service... One thing I would like to know how to identify the version of my ecu... As far as I know non abs should have 115 version but I am not sure whether it has latest ecu program.

I suppose u have bought it recently and you should be having rpm limiter light glowing at 5.5k rpm and a v2 sticker on the speedo. If yes then you Must be having a pre updated bike.Originally posted by INDYAN View PostIt's 1500 on both conditions

Could someone please throw a little light on the rpm? I have taken the delivery of my dominar one week back. It idles at around 1500rpm, but when riding and trying to downshift when the bike is in motion the bike refuses to go below 1800rpm. It results in a very irritating gear clanking noise.
Is this normal for the dominar?

Actually it idles at 1700 and that clunkyness is normal get the clutch cable play adjusted it would get better also it would be better with usage.Originally posted by Panzerfaust5388 View PostCould someone please throw a little light on the rpm? Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
The rpm needle always falls between 1500&2000. Also, the rear brake bite is almost non-existent. When addressed the showroom guys with this problem, they said that i need to apply both the brakes together for the proper functioning of abs and the rear brake. Also they said that the brakes would get better with time. Does this hold any true?Originally posted by Ijs View PostActually it idles at 1700 and that clunkyness is normal get the clutch cable play adjusted it would get better also it would be better with usage.

(Sorry for the rookie queries, i am coming from a karizma zmr. New to the abs & the brakes)

True rear brakes pad is worst. Member of Dominor group in Mysore change his brake pad gave reviews it as good. I'm using rear brake when distant is more and front for immediate braking effort.Originally posted by Panzerfaust5388 View PostThe rpm needle always falls between 1500&2000. The rpm needle always falls between 1500&2000. 1500-2000K RPM is correct. FI ensures that you dont have to worry about that since ECU deals with it. on that note, dont crank it hard if the bike doesnt start instantly. There could be bigger issue and cranking it hard can also cause insurance rejection.Originally posted by Panzerfaust5388 View PostThe rpm needle always falls between 1500&2000. they said that i need to apply both the brakes together. Effective breaking requires using both breaks in 80% (front) and 20% (rear). however, Dominar has dual channel ABS and has nothing to do with how you break or which break you use.
Yes, it becomes better with a few hundred kilometers but dont expect to be even half of how front break performs.
(Sorry for the rookie queries, i am coming from a karizma zmr. New to the abs & the brakes). No worries bro. arent we all? The only real difference is the clicks or jitters that tells you that you probably could have braked more effectively.

Dude, you have to use both brakes always and together in 70 / 30 ratioOriginally posted by Harideep View PostTrue rear brakes pad is worst. 70 percent front. 30 percent rear brakes. Never use one brake.
These are basics of riding. Please learn. Nothing wrong in learning. Everyone learned this the hard way.
You are risking your life when you are not using both brakes. Take care bud.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Rear breaks are by no mean weak it is just that most of us are use too of using only rear. Where the weight of the bike is front biased and that is why front breaks are more effective and efficient due to inertia. This is the reason rear is kept softer then front and right ratio is 70-30 or when on gravel use rear front combo, basically rear is used at very low speeds and it is useful to correct the line by straighting the bike when a corner is over cooked , tap the rear lift the bike up and correct the direction.
In cruisers though the weight is central biased or rear biased so we need more effective rear break.
Even scooters stops more effectively when front ia used more. And due to this more rear wala habit combi breaks are useful in country like ours.
It is always best to find a open lonely stretch and practice braking in all speeds when u buy a new bike so that you would gwt an idea how it behaves in different conditions , find wet , gravel , good road bad raod , practice practice. And make sure we do this with all gears on.
I would love more experienced riders to correct me if i am wrong in any of the above.Last edited by Ijs; 11-20-2017, 08:07 PM.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
It is expensive product and only pro is that u don't need extra switch. And over that u wont use more than 4 pattern. Better buy a switch wala flasher would cost around 500, comes in 30 and 40 pattern and no wire cutting is needed installation is simple. There is YouTube video on the same and seller details are also in the video.Originally posted by V 12 View PostGuys is anyone using the hazard light flasher from dothediy.com . If so please share your impression. Would it any way void my warranty.
Cheers
Amogh Sharma
You can give my reference too , i think he will ship it to your place.
You won't lose warranty as long as no wire is cut.

Inderjeet.
