Guys, Just came back from Baja's customer meet. Well... I went into Baja for a test ride but then it was late so the dealer was happy to let me sit with the riders and atten the meeting to get to know the bike.

But to my surprise, i lost all the confidence i had in the bike. So much of issues that are well known and accepted by the technicians, few of those are life threatening.

      1. Head light : Yes LED's are good.. but it appears that the head light has short circuit issues and goes kaput nowhere. Technicians agreed and looks like they are replacing the entire head light assembly.
And then throw is not good enough in corners and Baja doesnt encourage fog lamps too.
      2. Vaccum in the fuel tank. Looks like its common and it is being replaced as in when reported.
3.Quality of cables are not upto standards and cuts off in the middle of nowhere.

I mean, whats going on with dominar guys... only thing that attracts me right now is the interest rate baja fin offers...

1 never heard of this issue here in delhi even once, only 3 headlights were replaced one due to water seepage and other due to rattle issue.

2 vacuum in tank is issue of first lot bike and there is simple remedy either to replace the tank cap or remove 2 rubber washers from the underside of tank cap.
Actually this issue is also present in other bs4 bikes irrespective of make, re and honda too. As bs4 norm mandates the tanks cap to be airtight and all the gases are circulated to the charcoal canister. And in very hot weather the gas in side the tank is more then the vent can direct to the canister.
3 Again hearing it for first time. Only time it went bad is due to rat issues or some after market accessories.

My bike is from the first lot and i can safely recommend it to others. Only thing which can be bothering to someone are the mild vibrations from tank and the 4.5 to 5k rpm zone engine vibrations.

Thank you for the clarification ljs.

There were about 15 riders and infact every one voiced out the same concern. One major point is Baja is very strict on warranty and they dont allow after market fittings, even necessary ones like chargers and fog lamps.

With regards to vibration, looks like baja has found a solution to it. So , any bike that vibrates in tank, foot pegs or speedo console should be taken to service center and they dampen it... or atleast that is what is being told.

With regards to head light short circuit.. the technician did acknowledge that there is a fault and it is being replaced.

            Hello Fellow Dom Riders.
This is my second post on XBHP. I would like to inform that I purchased Dominar 400 on Monday, 27 Nov 2017 and would like to share my experience.
            Manufacturer: Bajaj
            Bike: Dominar 400 ABS
            Color : Matte Black
Dealer: Swadeshi Bajaj, Raja Garden, New Delhi
            Dealer Experience: Not so great!
GOOD BITS: Delivery Experience was smooth and Salesperson was courteous enough to explain every detail of the bike along with service interval and other basic stuff. Paid accessories included Steelbird Helmet, Helmet Locker Device Thingy, Seatcover, 1 Ltr of Petrol and a big smile on my face.
BAD BITS: Things started going downhill after the delivery. I took finance from in house BAJAJ Finance team. I was informed during the delivery that I will receive sms on my phone regarding Insurance confirmation, Vehicle registration and documents from BAJAJ Finance on email which will take maximum 1 day. But after following up with Billing team for next 3 days I was unable to procure any of the documents which they keep telling me that I will receive confirmation sms any moment which I haven't received till date. Eventually on 4th day I had to write an official complain to Bajaj, result being I received Insurance copy on my email in 3 hours after making the complaint and still waiting on confirmation sms of my vehicle registration.
BIKE EXPERIENCE: Bike rides like a dream. Rode 30 kms in 5 days because of unavailability of Insurance Copy. Didn't want to take any chances. Will take Dom on long rides now.
Query: Any Dominar group in Delhi/NCR which I can join and be part of??

Yes at first it was heavy, difficult to maneuver in traffic, too powerful. But once you get hold of it, it will be your best companion.
I would recommend going for a test ride.
Thank you so much for the response. I have booked a test ride for coming Friday. Keeping my fingers crossed.

As you already have ridden friends pulsar and wants a bike for touring then don’t look anywhere just go to bajaj showroom and take a long test ride before booking the dominar as you are more inclined towards it. The Dominar power is more linear and can be handled easily without scaring the new rider. So first take the test ride and then decide.
And before buying a bike just make sure to make your check points and see were the bike stands against your requirement.

It’s all about getting used to the bike and it take first 1000 kms to understand and get used to your new machine and getting older with it.

Thanks Parshu for the response. I have booked a test ride for this Friday. Planning to do a short local ride in the city first. And based on how it goes they said that they will be ok with a long ride. However just as a safety measure I have asked my friend to loan his bike for 6 months.

So, get a smaller 100 CC motorcycle. Buy it used. Get riding for at least 6 months. Then get the Dominar as a replacement or even as a second bike. That way, you are assured of a more pleasant experience.

But, whatever you get, make the investment and get top notch safety gear - helmet, jacket, gloves and boots. I would even add knee pads to this list.

                  Best Wishes
Thanks BKB for taking the time to pass your wisdom. I am planning to take a test ride based on what couple of forum members suggestion. Worst case, if that doesn't work out, I am planning to ride my friend's pulsar for 6 months or so and then look at Dominar again. Thanks again.

Visibility is not that good so I will replace them, with bigger ones

Its not ideal to own Dominar if you dont have previous experience. Though it doesnt look it is heavy and though it has linear power delivery it is very powerful for a newbie ... simple mistake may turn fatel.

Ride your friends bike on daily basis, if possible take it for a long trip. Get used to riding in highways in city... once you are confident then look for a new option.

I am a new bike rider for the past 3 months or so. I have been borrowing my friend's Pulsar and been riding it. I have been wanting to take long rides and would love to get a Dominar. Do you think Dominar can be a good first timer's bike? Or should be practising bike riding for few more months / years before getting a Dominar?

                        Thank you,
                        Thiru
bro i think you should go for the dominar
if you are fimilar with use of clutch gear and accelerator .
as you would not ride the bike more than 80kmph
during the run in period and also would not
                        rev it hard
so by the time the run in period gets over you can ride it easily.

                          Hey Ijis

So I was thinking of getting a direct connection from the battery with cutouts and a separate switch for a pair of fog lamps since this will not involve any cutting of existing wiring ... will this void warranty.

Also the fog lamps are very simple 10 watt pieces will it cause any impact on the battery if used for 3 / 4 hours at a stretch for night rides... Will the alternator be able to charge the battery...

I believe it should as I have seen light capacity bikes (100 or 150cc) bikes with more powerful fog lamps.

                          Any thoughts will be helpful.

If no wires are cut the warranty would not be affected, but still if u face any issues it is advisable to remove the extra setup and then visit the service center so not to give them any chance to point fingers towards you.
And try using smaller wattage fogg light with higher temperature rating preferably yellow ones.

                              hey fellow Dominar owners,
I got my Matte black Dominar on 1st Dec, from Amba bajaj, Bommanhalli,Bangalore.
My dad paid the full amount through DD on Tuesday(28th Nov), they told us it would take upto 2 working days for the DD to get cleared, up until the Friday afternoon they kept on telling it wasn't cleared yet, the DD providing bank told us that it was cleared on Wednesday, the salesman said he would keep me posted but wouldn't even bother to send me a text message.
After numerous back to back calls to the attending salesman and showroom reception, I was finally told that DD was cleared and the bike would be ready for delivery by 4 p.m
I reached the showroom by 4:15 PM, the entire delivery process was soo sloppy, at first there is only one person finalizing the documents of the bikes ready for delivery, my document folder was misplaced, when they eventually found it, I was asked to make a payment of 1700 INR, the DD was for the exact amount quoted by the salesman, after inquiry they told me it was for IND plates(salesman told me he would give them for free along with Teflon coating). I was in a hurry (the Purhoit said it's not favorable to do pooja after sunset ) so I did not ask any questions and made the payment. The lady gave me a slip and sent me to third floor, I told the person over there that I was in a hurry yet he took his own time to move other bikes before sending my bike to basement for delivery. I was sent to basement again to collect the bike, no slip this time whatsoever, again at basement there is one single person delivering the bikes (also explaining basic things like self, indicators, gears etc.).
I was really surprised how they did not ask for any documents or verification before giving me the keys to a 2 lkh INR bike.
It was already 5:30 PM and I just checked if the turn signals, break lights and engine number before rushing off for pooja.
To be honest I was expecting some kind of delivery ceremony from the sales team, but in reality it was like picking back the bike form service.
At this point I was soo agitated and remember this was the first time I was riding the Dominar, did not even take a test ride before.
The weight of the bike was apparent but within the first kilometer i got the hang of it ,my frustration was gone and now there was this wide grin on my face.
I got to ride only for 25 kms and since it's raining non stop for 3 days I couldn't take the bike anywhere. I loved riding it every bit soo far and pretty sure will continue to love riding this beautiful bike.

Congratulations on your new beast. Don’t get bogged down by those ceremonies. They do it when a vehicle launches in market for first few days. It’s an advertising gimmick.
Just follow regular run in procedures. Read the manual once.
