• Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread

Hello members,

I experienced something strange on my domi yday.
I have done 4.8K and I am due for 2nd service.
Yesterday I got a chance to hit a highway on which I have previously touched 160 on the speedo.
But this time I was not able to go beyond 146-147 and overall I could feel a rough/stiff nature by the engine.
I am suspecting the engine oil which has already turned black and I will be changing it during 2nd service.
What are your thoughts ? as bajaj earlier recommended changing oil only after 10K kms.

Or would this be because, the bike was running through heavy traffic for almost 50Kms (No warning lights were ON)

Riders, Need your expert opinions!!

Wind blast, saturated engine oil, you gained a few kgs, Tyre pressure or dominar has become self aware of your reckless behavior.
too many variables. I'd say dont worry about it too much. Your luck will run out faster than the bike.

I am thinking of installing axulliary lights.... Nothing which will blind the oncoming traffic but something with a decent throw upto 40 / 50 feet infront of the bike.
Can the battery handle the extra load? And will it void the warranty?
I do Pune to Nasik atleast once a month and the extra lights will come in handy.

Yes it will as per SC. Their argument is that incorrect wiring or extra power diverted might lead to ecu issues. They will void at any change in electrical circuits. If otherwise, past let know.

I have been thinking about the same.
Technically speaking, if done correctly and some of us have.. it should not be a problem. But Bajaj will not accept it just like every other manufacturer.

Have added a few torch lights to my basket but I am not convinced enough to place the other. These are supposed to be very bright and 2 of them would do the trick. However.. they won't last for more than an hour. So Pune Nashik is out of question.

Read more about this on page 145. drvmtm has invested a good amount of time and money. Should be worth knowing his experience.

Always try to source polishes required for matte paint. Do not use normal carnauba, Motormox or Waxpol liquid or solid polishes. When you use these polishes on a matte surface, it creates improper finish as the matte clear coat is different from the glossy clear coat. Just use a sponge with automotive grade washing shampoo and it's all that matte paint requires.

If it doesnt then it should help in reducing clutch pressing pain during slow moving traffic jams, and also should help learners by not letting engine turn off.
Clutch kickbacks or the terminology you've used is, the bike jerks when the clutch is left suddenly or if the clutch is left very fast. No! The slipper clutch only aids in reducing engine braking induced wheel locks, and not clutch jerks. You can start practicing on your clutch and throttle combination so that you don't stall and allow the vehicle to jerk. Secondly, make sure you adjust your clutch lever/clutch bite feel; to a level that you are comfortable with, this helps in clutching and declutching easily.

I got sensation of high heat from engine and little burning smell. Is it normal or what? It is also jerky in 2nd gear. Going to ride today for little long. Hope everything is alright.
That faint burnt smell from a new engine is completely normal and nothing alarming. It can range from, fresh paint on the body work to coatings on plastics and tubes that are wearing off due to engine heat and what not.

I recently bought a Dominar (July 22nd). It's my first bike ever (I'm 25!). I've been riding bikes since I was 14 but it was mostly intra city commute.

I bought Dominar because I wanted to take up biking more seriously. I know that I'm not used to the kind of power that it throws, so I've been taking it slow. I went on a short 60 KM ride and on my way back, I noticed that my wrist on throttle, my legs and my butt were pretty strained from being stuck in that position for that long. This is honestly, very embarrassing.

What are some things that I can do to get better at longer rides? I don't get to ride my bike every day as I go to office in a cab and reach home pretty late. Are there any specific workouts for wrists or legs that I can do to train my muscles better?

What are your top 5 tips to get ready for my first 200 KM ride?

Thanks,
Dominar373
Surprisingly, the answer to your question is right in your query. The reason you are indeed having pain is the fact that you indeed haven't gotten accustomed to certain riding positions, all motorcycles do vary to an extent, be it their riding position or be it their handling characteristics. Getting used to a certain position and riding pattern, would sometimes require an ECU flash on the rider's skill side. Take it slow, take breaks when you feel your hamstring is beginning giving you a sprain. Take breaks, and you'll slowly adapt to a riding pattern. It's initially harder to get aligned to a new motorcycle; over time, give it some learning time, the motorcycle and yourself will grow unto each other. The key here is not to push oneself to the limits immediately, most riders face wrist pain issues and sprains even after riding the same motorcycle for years. Give it some time, and you should see yourself bettering at it.

Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

THE END

It's been 3 days and I have ridden 250 k so far. Initially I thought of using shell V power but unfortunately from the showroom the bunk is far, so on the way I filled up HP POWER. My question is can I mix up between power, speed and Xtra premium or is there any difference? Definitely after first service I will change to shell😉

I had this problem before first service
Explained the problem for the first service, they've fixed it
300 kms after the first service and no such problems I've got again

Can you mix Bisleri and Aquafina. It's not your fault, their marketing departments have got us
believing that it's more than just fossil fuel.

I dont think D400 doesnt demand for preimium fuel, unleaded fuel should do. In most bunks, they sell the unleaded petrol as preimium ones. So why waste extra bucks on liter of petrol?
