  • Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread

    Hi riders
Did my 1st service yesterday at 550 km on odo. I used to ride upto 4000 rpm before service. Today I tried to go beyond 4000 rpm and there is lots of vibration coming and looks like engine is struggling. What could be the reason for it?

What do you mean by struggling? At what speeds you change gears if the speed is less and gear is higher it will appear to struggle but actually it doesnt. I change to 5th at 55 and 6th at 65-70+ and man it flies like a rocket

Phew. Having been a daily (hourly?) Visitor on this thread for the first few months, did take my sweet time to catch up on all the action.

Quick question to everyone, especially the new buyers and thread veterans, any let up on the vibrations in new batches or 116 ecu update?

I'm currently in no hurry to buy a new bike. So if the apache 300 passes muster might actually pick that up . Also would be a proper transition from 180abs to 310abs

Ya me too change exactly at same speed. But since the 1sy service is over, I thought of going beyond 70, but the whole bike is shaking beyond 74. I think maybe the Rev limiter is not set or maybe an ecu update could solve this but SC guys told me new bikes do not get the update.

In my bike if i go in 6th gear below 60 it knocks and struggles above 60 it is good and dominar in 6th gear at 70 is at 4000 rpm and there is vibrations between 4000-5000 rpm but it does not struggle tell this to svc and there is nothing like the new customers cant get ecu update, press them by saying i loose power suddenly they will do it. Ithink it may help

This is the change at the rear end-speedo sensor is generally at the front-so if the D400 sensor is in the front,it won't affect.
If the sensor is at the rear,it will read 2.5% slower due to greater dia of the 140/70-17(140*0.7*2+17*25.39=627.63mm) as compared to the
150/60-17(150*0.6*2+17*25.39=611.63mm)-meaning the gearing will be taller
In the real world,it won't matter-and the higher sidewall of the 140/70-17 just might provide you with a cushier ride and more protection to the rim against impact-it might make the bike easier steering too due to its more rounded profile but the thinner rear might make the bike appear a little less macho

New lots are way better and vibrations are way lesser. But keep in mind that it is single cylinder engine and when we increase in term of cc on a single there are bound to be some vibrations unless it has counter balancer.
My bike is a first lot piece and is utterly smooth the vibration zone is 4.5k to 5k rpm. Rest all is smooth i have done only 5000kms major part on highway.

All bikes you said are completely different and cater to different purposes. Apache is more of a street fighter bike. Where as the new upcoming Akula is going to be a proper track bike. Dominar is more of a heavy cruiser with long wheel base.

People with over five feet and 8 inches should be more comfy on Dominar. Domy is more of a tourer with good city driving capabilities.
Apache is for those who are under five feet 8 inches. tall people are not welcomed to apache community. its a street fighter bike.
New upcoming Akula is going to be for those under 5.8 feet and who wants a track bike. i don't think, it would be comfortable for taller people.

Now, In which category you fall in?

No point in buying Akula if you are a tall person who wants a relaxed riding posture bike. I can only fit on Dominar cuz i am 6 ft tall who wants relaxed riding posture. even on FZ25, my wrists pain a bit. cuz a bit heavy and tall. might get habituated, if i ride long. not sure though.

I see that there are scratch marks coming in my domi console(looks like intentional scratches to me).
Is there are any way to guard our primary console from such scratches. I remember somebody talking about cutting out from 3m scratch guard.
The stock scratch guard was recently removed by the service centre ppl saying that it will get stick to the console bcz of heat and may cause problems.

                      Suggestions please...

You should be able to get a Screen film from any of the mobile shops they can cut per the size. I have the same think done on mine.

The scratches you see are most probably on the underside of the console. There are quite a few cases including mine where scratches seem to appear on the inside of the console. It is more amplified when driving in the rains and moisture getting inside which makes the scratches more visible. Only option here is to clean the inside of any dust.

Check engine oil level. 2 days before only I did my 1st service. It was lower below the level so i pressed them to pour more. Do the ecu update as well. I forget to ask them and it sucks the way my bike trembling at 4500 rpm and throttle lag is also there. Have to visit them again.

ECU update done: the engine feels a lot smoother now.

Engine oil changed: used the Bajaj recommended oil 1.5 litre changed in front of me.

                                Spark plugs cleaned

                                Oil filter changed

                                Brakes tighthed

                                Chain cleaned and lubed

                                Topped up coolant

Vibrations reduced throughout the rev band. I found the engine super smooth after 4k rpm. Much better than earlier.

                                So far so good.

I need to figure out how to add extra lights without much impact to the electrical system and the ECU.... Any thoughts?

I had almost bought the bullet but went ahead with this at the last moment. The bullet is no doubt a good bike and there is no comparison between these two but I am glad I got this one.
