Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
I agree with the first point. But fuel economy is not like you think. When u keep it below 110kmph it delivers 27/28kmpl solid. I bet the ecu map of the dominar is way limited which restricts true potential. Which in turn would be much more vibey.Originally posted by kris123456 View PostRide Safe!

Since the bike is running in, I was very gentle on the throttle inputs, but still I doubt regarding the rpm limit kicking in as early as 5000 rpm. Is this a normal behavior or do I need to get it checked?Ijs is right. It's a factory limitation for new bikes. Bajaj says no guaranteed engine warranty if it's overridden. It can be overridden too. If it is not the above then it might be possible that the engine was overheating coz of low coolant level or the thermostat could be at fault or the fan is not working.
There is a fail safe in case of overeating which prevents the rpm to go above 4k.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Yes it is kinda. But since the dominar headlights draw only 25w in high beam its ok to add 80w. But still it would take a toll on battery life. Try 20+20w instead, its more than adequate for night riding and safe. Else u can upgrade ur battery to a higher capacity once it fails if u wanna go with 80w setup. I have 2x12w lights setup, planning to add 2x20w more for riding in the twisties.Originally posted by deepakmasthi View PostHello All,
I am trying to add some additional Aux lights to my Dominar. However, I am unsure how much wattage/ampere lights I would need to be using. I have currently made a custom electrical harness with a 40 A relay and a 10 A Blade fuse, directly drawing power from the battery. The lights I am looking to add are 40W each. 40w x 2 would be 80 W. This would mean around 6.7 Amps. Would this be too much of a current draw?
Any help on this is much appreciated.
Regards,
Deepak

For the extra lights, the best way to do it is by using a relay and drawing the power directly from the battery along with a blade fuse.. Zero modification on the stock electrical this way.Ride Safe!

I actually need to understand the output from the stator coil, that way I would be able to take a call if I should go with the higher wattage lights. Any help on that?Originally posted by sman999 View PostYes it is kinda. But since the dominar headlights draw only 25w in high beam its ok to add 80w. But still it would take a toll on battery life. Unfortunately the owners' manual doesn't state the stator output of the Dominar. My guesstimate it should be somewhere in the range of 250 to 300 watts, give or take. Give the head unit takes up a fraction of the voltage the conventional halogens use, you can perhaps get the stator output checked at a local auto electrical shop and then calculate accordingly. The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Well I travel Pune - Nasik atleast once every month... I usually drive out early morning about 3 and reach there by about 7. I get to beat the traffic and the pollution. I was hoping to do the same on the bike. Nothing wrong with the headlights but I feel like the intensity is a little weak as compared to the old halogen lights... Maybe a good projector or something which could give a good 50 feet throw.Originally posted by rubber_stamp_champ View PostRegarding the lights...how bad do you want them? Do you ride long distances at night? Or is it just city night riding, maybe work-home run...I don't see a point installing aux lights unless you're a hardcore night rider (pun intended :P). If you do want them, invest in some better branded lights. Rest all made in china selling for anything around INR 1000 is crap.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
So talking about the vibes it completely depends how you keep and ride the bike. I am a very relaxed rider and do not gun the engine at all... I recently got the first service where they updated the ECU along with the regular oil change and all. I have seen a remarkable change.Originally posted by Raman Swaminathan View PostHaha, totally my man!
I was not comparing like with like here. Just my preferences.
So regarding Akula, I was of the opinion that it will be more of a CBR250-ish bike rather than a R15 type track bike. The handlebars dont look very dedicated so far.
I am 5'9. And it does feel like most bikes are designed for the 5'8 as an average test rider. Even NS seems super comfortable in this range.
I definitely want a relaxed posture bike. Hence why Dominar is a huge crush.
But seeing as I am an Apache rider for the past 3 years, another Vibey machine reduced the appeal a bit.
I really wanted something that is smooth. But not too costly at this point as I want an upgrade but not a full fledged next level bike.
There is time for that IMO.
Anyway, it feels like I am digressing and rambling out here.
Just wanted to ask if the Vibes have come down or if we will see an upgrade soon.
Cheers!
For example riding at a steady 70 - 80 KMPH (about 3.5 - 4 k rev range) it's a steady purr from the engine No vibes or anything .
Climbing up about 90 - 95 KMPH you can hear the engine but it is not strained or rushed at all... Actually you will find the engine willing to go more.
I was at a steady speed of about 120 for almost 20 mins non stop and there were slight vibrations... I guess this is normal, BUT WAY BETTER than many bikes I have ridden.
I have hit 140 and at that speed you can feel the vibrations but the rear mirror does not vibrate, your arms do not feel like jelly and the engine does not sound out of breath... But just a steady sound.
Unfortunately... In traffic I can never go above 50 and at those speeds you will hardly notice any difference in this and any other bike.
And in the highways... I find the sweet spot to be 80.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Can you please advise how the set up for the lights have been done. And what brand lights have you installed. I do not want to use the cheap Chinese knock offs but good quality lights.Originally posted by sman999 View PostYes it is kinda. Not looking for something really bright... Just enough to get 40-50 feet of good light throw.

This is how she looks right now. 2x12w installed on the mirror mounts. Compact, cheap(800₹) VFM & easy to adjust on the go. It's quite bright to illuminate along with low beam. But I want a little more long throw to tackle the pitch dark situations in twisties, also during rains. So ordered the fog lamp mount to install underneath the headlamps and add 2x20w lights there, hook it up with high beam. I'll post updates once setup. Should be done this week.

The SC guys told me that the warranty will be void if any extra electricals are installed as it might short the ECU and all....
What load is being put in the electrical system with the present set up. And how did you get the switch for the extra lights installed.
I am thinking of doing just 1 good projector as I do not want a over kill on the electricals and on the oncoming traffic on the highways.
Lastly... What is the training of these lights.... 30 feet approx ?
Thanks again.

Since the Dominar is same engine as KTM390 with detuning, the spec for the generator should be same as the KTM 390Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostUnfortunately the owners' manual doesn't state the stator output of the Dominar. The power +ive is tapped from the drl and connected to the switch. Switch is mounted on to the handle bar. Ground -ive taken from body horn clamp. No stock setup is tampered. Have added a 4amp fuse incase things go wrong.Originally posted by TCHAT View PostThis is brilliant!! Thank you... And yes please let me know when the new lights are installed.

Never worried abt load. Cuz these leds are nothing when compared to halogens or projector hid that you put.
Try riding kart website for some options but they are costly. Have ordered a 40w light for my friend from them. Will post review of that once it arrives. Try to avoid projectors, go for leds as they consume less power, more brightness, almost no heat, light weight.
The 12w leds illuminate good for about 15-18ft.Ride Safe!
