Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Hi guys
I just came home from a rainy ride, I have not even completed 1st service. The bike is pretty messy with lots of dirt. Should I do a water wash? If done should I have to lubricate the chain? Or shall I give the bike directly to 1st service. I have ridden around 250km. Please help me guys

Service so early is of no use, get it washed and if the chain gets dry , go to a meachnic and get it lubed , he will probably use greese or used oil on it. Get yourself a chain lube if you have high running .Originally posted by krish_095 View PostHi guys

Please clean your bike, oil your chain after you wipe dry the chain.
The first service is between 500-750km or 30-45days from the date of purchase whichever occurs earlier. If your oil is darkish brown or tending to blacken, you have to change the oil as during breakin period metal particles may get accumulated in the oil and this in the long run may affect your engine internals.
It is most advisable to change early. However, it is your choice if you would like to change the oil early or not.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Just a tiny note. If grease or used engine oil is used to lube the chain - shout at the service center. They are supposed to use proper lubricant. Mustard oil or Parachute is also a lubricant but we'll never use it. Used engine oil comes in the same category.Originally posted by ROHAN SPEEDOFREAK SHARMA View PostService so early is of no use, get it washed and if the chain gets dry , go to a meachnic and get it lubed , he will probably use greese or used oil on it. Note taken [emoji23] but we are talking about a road side mechanic, not many use motul i guess [emoji12] this is only what they use, washing with soap will dry out the chain and he will need some lubrication , so its better than nothing.Originally posted by Akash.Yadav View PostJust a tiny note. Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
For me new engine oil (for chain) is better in dusty or muddy roads. Earlier I used Motul and Loop, both are sticky/greasy and collects more dirt in the chain and have become quite thick, which took me more time during cleaning and relubrication.Originally posted by Akash.Yadav View PostJust a tiny note. Hahaha. Yeah, that's true. But when it's a bike like Domi, one should forsake those extra Dairymilks or Jack Daniels for one shot of Motul.Originally posted by ROHAN SPEEDOFREAK SHARMA View PostNote taken [emoji23] but we are talking about a road side mechanic, not many use motul i guess [emoji12] this is only what they use, washing with soap will dry out the chain and he will need some lubrication , so its better than nothing.

I haven't tried this, but might work with less viscous oil.Originally posted by Lalzova View PostFor me new engine oil (for chain) is better in dusty or muddy roads. Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
It might be easy to clean and looks OK from the glance, but our X-Ring or O-ring chains are OK with using engine oil for lubrication? Even I have a doubt now as to why use specialized lubricants and not engine oil for lubricating the chain? If that's for the manufacturers to extract money from us and misleading us to use specialized lubricants rather than the engine oil itself then it would be a nice to know fact.Originally posted by ROHAN SPEEDOFREAK SHARMA View PostI haven't tried this, but might work with less viscous oil.

Takimg a wild guess i would say , thats oils are different due to properties, they aren't juices , but just mixture of chemicals, made to be viscous and to sustain high temp and pressure, you dont need any of that on the chain , also what oil is greesing is just metal , but here the rings have sensitive rubber. Maybe its chemically mild , a perfect blend of viscousness, as it would fall off if its very thin and attract heat and dust if very thick , so just another thing , humans made just for the job.Originally posted by Akash.Yadav View PostIt might be easy to clean and looks OK from the glance, but our X-Ring or O-ring chains are OK with using engine oil for lubrication? Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
That's precisely we should be using the specific tools and lubricants which are made for specific purposes. As I said earlier, Kacchi Ghani Ramdev Baba's mustard oil is also an oil and a thick lubricant. It's easy to clean using Vim Bar or Rin too. But we can't use it to lube the chain. πOriginally posted by ROHAN SPEEDOFREAK SHARMA View PostTakimg a wild guess i would say , thats oils are different due to properties, they aren't juices , but just mixture of chemicals, made to be viscous and to sustain high temp and pressure, you dont need any of that on the chain , also what oil is greesing is just metal , but here the rings have sensitive rubber. Damn you man [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] i use motul, but you just can't go around telling people to invest 550 on a lube and another something on cleaner, after sometime when they observe they will get it.Originally posted by Akash.Yadav View PostThat's precisely we should be using the specific tools and lubricants which are made for specific purposes. It's just that I don't understand sometimes that we are OK to get a 1.6+ lakh rupees bike home but not ready to invest in proper riding gear or regular maintenance equipments. That's something that gets on my nerves.
Off topic - Patanjali Honey is good though. π
