      A minor update.

Today morning i cleaned the alloys after a long 100 kms run-in drive.
Guess what i found after rubbing the alloys with medium force by damp cloth, yes a little bit of orange tinge on the cloth.

Will get it checked at SVC soon.

hey, another thing that came to my mind is the clutch switch (there is a switch in the clutch yoke where the clutch lever sits).. this is what lets you start the bike with clutch pressed while in gear.
can you try starting the bike in gear with the clutch pulled in and see what happens.. does it start ? Try it a few times . the clutch switch can be cleaned out using some wd40 or contact cleaner.

          Dear All

An update to all Duke 390 2018 owners (no info about 2017 models), the colour from alloy rims comes off on cloth while cleaning them.
Mine has an issue so is another owner on this platform.
I have gone to SVC today to get this checked and there was another white 2018 owner and his rims are also plagued with this problem.

Will check and find out the root cause on Saturday when I’ll go for First service.

A minor update on bike first 600 kms

Its running fine but a little jerk under 4000 rpm is still there.

Best is you drive it in 4-5 k rpm band in run in period and it can potter around city and highway all day long.

Did couple of highway run in drives of around 100 and 150 kms and its bliss to drive this on highway. So much of power in reserve even driving at around 90 kmph.

Brakes are good, they do their job.

          Kitna deti hai
City driving - around 28 to 32 kmpl
          City + highway - 32 to 34 kmpl
          Highway - 35 to 40 kmpl

            Hi Bharti ,

I have raised a compliant through KTM customer care portal.

The engineer called me and and gave me another reason this time. Since I live near to the sea he was trying to say that it's normal for the rims to loose paint.

Looks like all the 2018 versions are having this problem

At least KTM should be made aware of these issue. No use in speaking to the SC people.

            Fingers crossed.

Seriously ?? Do you always ride under 5k RPM ?

I get 25-27 on normal usage going up-to at max 29-30 on highways.

                  Hi there
Its at present in RUN IN phase so driving it between 4-6k rpm.

I don’t know but iam getting such milage figures, maybe after first service and post run in period (1500 kms for me) i might get lesser milage.

But one thing i noticed if you drive it at 90 kmph on highway it gives you around 34-36 kmpl figure.
This is irrespective of run in or not.
For reference iam 5.8 tall and 96 kgs in weight.
So lighter riders can extract more.

When i got my karizma in 2006, i used to get around 55-60 kmpl during run in period. Later it came down to 40-45 kmpl.

Even I've noticed that the mileage was higher during the run in probably because i rode very carefully. Also one thing I've noticed that AVG shown as always greater than the actual by 3km/liter.

Also any idea how long the metzelers will last ? Did anyone switch to Pirelli/Michelin from metzelers. For touring and a little bit of cornering at the hilly roads don't you guys think the michelin is a good choice ?

Michelins are better for all types of roads and have a longer life, but I think Metzlers are way stickier, but coming to grip on wet or bad roads, Michelins perform admirably, Metzlers have a shorter life but I think they are super super confidence Inspiring on the tarmac.

KTM has just released an update which allows 1290 duke owners to have turn by turn directions displayed directly on the dash. Interestingly, it says that 'from the phone' so it means that it mirrors the phone but even with that scenario, it is a welcome change. who here want to see the same functionality in their T390 TFTs?

                        Source:

KTM have just released an update to their MY RIDE app that allows owners of the 1290 Super Adventure S and R models to have turn-by-turn navigation displayed on their TFT dash directly from the app. And thoughtfully, the update can be retro-fitted to models released in 2017 at no extra cost, so no owners will miss out. The MY RIDE app costs £7.99 and allows the rider to connect their smartphone to any KTM with a TFT dash (125 & 390 Duke, 1290 Super Duke R, 1290 Super Adventure S & R and 790 Duke, although a hardware upgrade may be required in some cases). This means that with a Bluetooth headset, the rider can listen to music and receive calls using the bike’s handlebar-mounted menu switch to control functions. However the new Navigation system extends this and adds navigation for the 1290 Super Adventure S and R. As well as displaying turn-by-turn navigation on the bike’s dash, the system shows distance to the next turn, name of the next street, arrival time and distance to target on

Hi fellow riders, so here goes an account of what happened to my 2017 ktm duke 390 (lovingly called my duchess). On the morning of 4 Jan 2018 I was travelling from Gorakhpur to Delhi. Having done almost 300 km of riding that day the bike stalled and the gear lever was stuck in 6th gear, I was doing 100-120 kmph on the lucknow agra expressway (around 8000 km on the odo). I could also smell something burnt inside the engine and the screen was showing high engine temperature. I suspected the clutch plates to be the culprit. Anyway waited for the engine to cool down, restarted the bike, that's when I noticed some strange noise from the engine area and the gear lever was still stuck. Had no option but to call Ktm lucknow (luckily I was only 30 km outside the city). A tow truck was hired and the bike was taken to Ktm lucknow ring road service centre. The mechanic was not available that day so I had to leave my bike with them. That effectively meant the end of my new year ride even before it could properly begin. With a broken heart I left my duchess there and continued the rest of the journey on a bus. Finally got her back after 5 long weeks. The mechanic claimed that due to faulty oil switch the engine oil was not reaching the over head cams and thus due to over heating they got burnt. Even the gears were broken and he replaced them as well (he had no idea how that could have happened). The clutch plates were fine. What I found rather odd was that the service manager was not willing to share any written evidence of what work was done on my bike. He just said around 22000 rs worth of spares were changed, out of which I had to pay 8000 rs, rest was covered under warranty. He gave me a bill for those 8000rs. So after 10000rs from pocket (2000 rs for tow truck and 8000 service centre), a ruined trip, and 5 long painful weeks, I got my bike back. I have done almost 1000 km since then, no issues have cropped up again till date.

My two cents - don't believe what the service centres tell you, investigate yourself- most people said the low engine oil pressure light is a software issue, turns out there was actually a problem with my bike's oil switch, and ignoring the light, on the advice of service centres, cost me big.

Is it really true that Ktm doesn't share details of work carried out under warranty? I as an owner would like to know exactly what work was done on my bike and why.

PS- got a puig windscreen last week, seems a good addition to the bike and is really helpful in cutting out the windblast. Got it from ultimatespares.com (not affiliated to them in anyway). Also I have installed front fork sliders, rear swing arm sliders, radiator guard, and exhaust guard from Bikers Billet. Bought these from amazon.in. The quality of their work is just awesome (again, not affiliated to them in any way, just a fan of good quality workmanship). Still looking for some decent crash guards and auxiliary lights, would appreciate a headsup on the same.Click image for larger version

Hell yeah! Looking forward to having it in the 390!
