Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Thank you for the kind information. i need to get mine checked in the servicing then. For me it still feels jerky in low gears.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostThe old bikes had that snatchy, grabby feel with riding especially in slow crawling situations, you can feel the rpm mildly go up and down and when in crawling traffic it can get into the nerves at times. It isn't happening because it's a HC engine, it's because of the fueling by the EFI. The factory setup runs on quite lean and this aggravates the heat even more and lean fuel can in fact produce snatch grab the smooth, constant throttle that even the carburettors used to provide us. Unfortunately that's the earlier Duke 390. It was crazy, snatchy and fun. The newer ones almost, to my feel has resolved this snatchy feeling, they use RBW which means fueling is more precise and I reckon KTM have also worked on the fueling part, so that it's nice and smooth, compared to the older models. You can think of the old one was RD 350 HT and the newer one as RD 350 LT, well at least close when it comes to the feel.
The 220 though had some a mild yellow tint to it and had excellent throw if adjusted properly. Mind you it's just a projector headlamp, not a proper xenon setup which use a bulb and a covex glass setup, that's one. Secondly the newer KTMS have LEDs meaning white light, this is boon and bane. They illuminate the road well when it's really dark (provided how well the beam spread and reflector design is) At the same time, in city riding conditions they equally go clueless when confronted with sodium vapor lamp lights, or LED street lights, they almost stand no chance as the rider would literally feel they are turned off, case with most LEDs. This is where flood light AUX lamps come from, they project a single focused beam as opposed to a spread out white beam from the same LEDs, these come in handy in those blinding situations where one loses eyesight for a moment from oncoming traffic
Sigh, ain't those Halogen bulbs feel better now.
Cheers!

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
My bike felt jerky in 1st and 2nd gears at RPMs around 3.5k. The RPM used to fluctuate and the bike hops like a rabbit sometimes. I took it to the service and they said its normal. I checked the 'test ride' bike and even that felt almost the same. Now a days this has reduced.. may be because of the 1st service... or may be I have got used itOriginally posted by jdev16 View PostThank you for the kind information. i need to get mine checked in the servicing then. Let us know what the mechanics say about your bike.

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Just completed 500kms. Enjoying the mad rush of power (though my riding is only in the city).
- There is a buzzing sound that comes around 2000-3000rpm. I figure it's the numberplate vibrating madly at that rpm (probably it's resonant frequency)
- Bike heats up a lot (just 2 bars short of max) in b2b traffic and heat can be felt through my alpinestars boots !
- Bike is very jerky in 1st and 2nd gear - frequent upshift/downshift required at slow speeds
- TFT has some condensation around the corners (but it seems to be normal)
- Bike is NOTORIOUSLY difficult to clean! I wash it myself and the ridges and grooves are very hard to reach. Front mudguard is like a magnet for dirt and dust and even my micro fiber cloth is defenceless against it. I guess only a high-pressure wash will do (I use a low-pressure ResQ tech portable washer). Saree guard makes it very hard to clean the other side of the rear wheel. Forks are also hard to clean because they are grooved and not smooth. Basically, the bike is a dirt magnet; especially in the rains.
- The side stand is like a woman. Impossible to understand. When I'm on the bike and I put the side stand, I find it hard to get off because the bike remains vertical, like 90 degrees vertical. After I get off the bike, it slowly comes to side (a bit too much for my liking). Sometimes I feel the bike is going to topple over if the side stand is in the muck or mud. Thinking of fixing this in first service.
- Headlights are inadequate on a dark road (no street lights, just ambient lighting of the city). Thinking of putting aux lights
- Mileage for my bike is just 20kmpl

- The plastic around the key hole is weak and flexible, might break easily. Front mudguard also bends with light pressure from my hands. Would have liked it to be sturdy but that would probably add to the weight
- Handlebar guards are not too rigid and can be easily shifted up and down especially when parking in tight spots and the handle rests against another bike/scooter
- There's rusting at the bolts of the engine guard and in the middle of the handlebar where "KTM" is written.

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
I am newbie for power vehicles and i owned a Karizma R for past 7 years.. travel has always been exciting and bike travel always was my preferred mode inspite of the machine maybe activa or a any non gear vehicle...
So i had reached a point where my older bike was not performing upto the mark and i got the time now for travel and i could give time for it...
Enough said...
I opted for Himalayan(after lot of research since i not a fan or infact i dont like RE as such like the other models with that thumping and no technology) and also did the booking for the same...they said since you have booked it mid july you will get it mid August..but later on i found something fishy so i enquired about the waiting period and specs about the BS4 model from a different dealer of RE and they said the bike is going to come in the showroom post August and also they weren't aware about the specs of the bike apart from FI and BS4 compliance...
So that went into my head because you dont take booking for something about which even you are not aware of.
So i immediately started my search for a different bike..
I had option of dominar, fz25, Mahindra mojo(Duke was never an option)
fz25- Didnt give me that feel of a premium bike and handling was ok ok..
Dominar- Fiber tank and huge tank with small capacity tank and handling also didn't suit my requirement
Mojo- Heavily over rated and surely over priced and braking needs a lot of work and didn't even complete the test ride and handed over to a friend halfway...
Then now all my other options were also not catering my requirement i started randomly visiting to different brands after consulting few of my friends and majorly after reading ownership threads and youtube videos...i landed finally to KTM which apparently was just 500 mtrs away from my home and i was amazed that i never even a thought of checking them...
After Karizma i was never a fan of fairing bikes and primarily loved naked bikes and wanted to own one..
Went to KTM for duke 390..just sat on it and yes the decision was made the same time..test ride was just amazing..did the whole payment immediately and next day gave the required documents..
I made sure that he allows me to select the model from his godown and also allows me to ride it till the showroom...
Distance between showroom and godown 12kms...
Got the cheque cleared the next day and 2 days later today i got the bike till the showroom... what an amazing piece by KTM...feels premium, agile and the most important the Power...
Looking forward for the final delivery..
I am looking forward for some insights here[ about how to manage this mini monster and some dos and donts..
PS: Sorry for such a lengthy message but couldn't resist my feelings...because i have completely fallen for this bike since the day i sat on it and cant think of anything else apart from taking it for a ride...
Sharing few images..ignore the pics quality..

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Guys just need a suggestion, a friend of mine was on his leh trip, his bike got breakdown 150kms before leh and bike had multiple issues:
• ECU failure
• Drop in Coolant level
• Low oil pressure
• ABS failure
He had to courier the bike back to Raipur. Previously he had RC200.
What could be the reason for these massive failures.

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hi all, update from my side
My bike has completed 2.5 months and clocked 2012 Kms, till date nothing serious, have done one long ride with wife to Binsar, following key observations
1. The bike is very comfortable for long runs and sorry I also end up comparing with my 220, so no wrist pain, the seating is very nice, no serious knee pain etc, my long ride as per the trip meter showed saddle time of 19 hrs in maybe 60 hrs of trip time, so
not bad in terms of comfort, in fact pillion comfort was also higher than 220
2. Because of the high seat (I am 5.9) something on a slope the balance in slow speed is more difficult as compared to 2..,
3. Side stand is funny and on a slope even more funny
4. Chain lube has to carried on the ride as the chain gets dry in 5-600 Kms, though very difficult to clean and line without a center stand and the straight standing side stand.
5. Bike is a absolute eye catcher, she gets the looks and it is embarrassing at time as everyone is looking at you, but also the fact that it is a dust maganate, I spent long hrs cleaning it after the ride
5. I had had no TFT issue till yesterday, when for the first time I tried to pair the Bluetooth and first of all the blue tooth shows connected, but the my ride app did not show any connection, I kept trying it, only once it could switch on the music player and after that as soon as the bike picked up speed the connection was lost and when I stopped to pair it again the TFT rebooted and the MR send back to start of the day, this happened twice and now my meter shows 12 Kms less, I think I am going to forget the Bluetooth and continue to believe that there is no Bluetooth compatablity henceforth, btw I use a redmi android phone
6. The rattles a lot when I am single riding and the speed in any gear is less, so much so that there is rattle on 6th when the speed reaches 75 on the lower side, very peculiarly it's more calm when the two of us ride
6. Wind blast at 100 is huge as compared to 2..,
7. The saddle bad that I had on the right side though was at least 1 inch above the silencer, stuff in my bad got damaged due to the heat, so technically you can ride with a saddle bag on the right side, the hear from the pipe is significant
8. Breaks are ok till you ride+/-100 after which the reassurance some down disproportionately
9.it does heat up a lot as compared to 2..,
10. Iam getting a milage of 27-28 on highway and city, though city is very less
11. Tires are meant for only good tarmac and feel unhappy and worried as soon as the bike enters some tough patches
12. Ground clearance is huge, it doesn't touch any where
Overall good fun till now except the fan noise and heat that unsettles you when you ride in the city

Has anyone tried replacing stock coolant to Motocool Expert 103291 Coolant 1 Litre?
Heard this is more efficient
