I will never do the mistake of getting a TVS tyre as a replacement, had enough !

After having spent close to 15k kms on TVS tyres. I changed my tyres recently... Front - R15 Tyres ; Rear - IRC 110/80...

And I had a ride to Amby valley yday... Me on the RTR and my friend on the R15... The RTR handled in a way which I had never felt before... The tyre profile helped it fall into the turns extra quicker... This resulted in a bike which was even more flickable than how I knew it to be...

And the mid corner grip was something which was really new to me... I had always thought that Shrichakra's mid- corner grip was pretty good in the dry... But yday I realised how much there was a scope for improvement... The FEEDBACK at high leans which these tyres gave me was a massive improvement over the Shrichakra...

The advantage is that I am now more confident. That is the Main thing... This results in an increase in corner entry speeds... Because I know that even if the turn tightens mid way, I still have potential for increasing the lean angle and not washing the front..

And Braking... A massive improvement no question... It does wonders to the Confidence levels...

And this is all in the Dry... Let me get a chance on the wet roads... I sure I ll be singing even more


The point of all this rant is... Guys.. If there is any investment You have to make in the RTR, Please make it for the tyres... Honestly, I didnt know what I was missing till Yday... Give it a shot... There is a massive improvement in both confidence and safety...

what irc 110/80 please post some pics of thread patten
and the price of it.
if irc is out with 110/80 it will be perfect for our rtrs

i would never buy another tvs tire in my lifetime... dont wait for a "NEW" tvs tire

give some datails like price of both separately and pics pls

The IRC is indeed better than the one the Dazzlers come with... I did a bit of research befor settling for this... I know a friend who did Leh with this tyre and also cud scape the footpegs of his old P150 with the same... He was quite adamant that I go for it.. And all the ppl who have used this tyre had only good to say abt it..

Its a lil pricey tho... It cost me Rs. 2600.. I donno if I was fleeced.. But from what I cud fathom, this price was pretty ok...

BTW, The R15 front cost me 1600.. As far as I know and have heard, its a great fit for the 180... And one of the best...

The cheaper option is the one Dazzlers come with.. Dint ask how much it cost, but I know the IRC costs more.... Actually, I had shortlisted the Mrf for sometime till I heard about this tyre..

And btw, I bought the tyres at Lamington road, at a shop called Metro Tyres. They are pretty well known... They have a nice collection.. Michelin, Pirelli, MRF whatever.. All sizes... Check out the shop once.. The shop guy will charge you more.. He charged me 2850 for the IRC.. Bargain as much as you can.. I guess bargainin is a must for all the shops over there...

Thanks a lot, I'll go check it out the next time i go that side. I dont mind spending more in order to get that 'extra confidence' . Do keep us posted how it behaves on wet roads too.

It's been 12k-odd on the speedo and I am thinking to swap the rubber as well..I was looking for Pirelli(Sport demon 120/XX-17) or some Michelin.Problem is these tires are a tedious task to find..Plus I was compromising on the fit i.e going to fit a notch higher than the stock..Now that you are satisfied with the IRC rubber,I shall go out and find one!..Also,Is R15's front direct fit to the 180?..I remember P220-front is direct fit..

TVS tires suck for sure.. While down-shifting at high revs (or if engine braking) the rear fishtails! Scary as hell..

Agreed the TVS tyres are not the best... but I think it does its part well enough. Good dry grip and decent wet grip (I think this is the main objective of TVS tyre for city riding).

I am not sure what is meant by grip in wet conditions. Even the best of tyres perform only when the tarmac is wet (but not greasy with slush and oil on the roads). We are not supposed to be speeding on the dirty indian roads which become slippery when wet. I am pretty sure even the best tyres will skid and slide if you push it in these condition.

That said TVS tyres are definitely not track ready but I think it does its duty well enough on the real road conditions.

Or maybe I haven't had my tryst with legendary TVS tyres .

Take your bike to the driest possible road..At about 55-70kmph pull the front brake(only) and see how in a second you pray to God for your dear bones..Front skids like mad..

Try the same thing with any other bike like FZ/R15/Pulsars/ZMA and see the difference..

Yes,they perform well under normal usage,I agree..The reason why we all are still alive and posting our experiences here..But they do not do justice with the brand RTR..

Agreed... Thats why I had my stock tyres on for 15k kms... I used to go for cornering trips all the time.. Heck I even did the ARE on the stock tyres..(albeit sliding all over the place..) I thought it was as good as it could get..

I was wrong.. I normally am a silent visitor to the RTR thread everyday.. Dont post tat much cos am too lazy to type.. But yday, the potential I saw in the bike hit me so hard I just wanted to tell the whole world about it...

Don't know about ZMA/R15 but the pulsars definitely skid. And so does RTR. Come on, the tyre won't stick like glue if you use the front brake at those speeds. (Or should they If they should, I better change my tyres)

And why would you do that. We are supposed to use both brakes, balance our body to stabilize the bike under hard braking.... just the tyres won't do the trick.

Well that explains why you didnt give extra info on tyres initially , am on tvs tyres only now , this week been riding only on dirt and wet roads after hearing all this confusion about tvs tyres am sticking to only 50 kmph
