The second reason is dangerous to the disc,as instead of softer pad material the pad backing Metal plate will be coming into contact with the disc, and hence the squeal.(Metal to Metal braking). This will wear out the disc also
How long does a pad last? My odo reads 32xx kms.

check the wear limit on the pads yourself . if the two grooves in the pads are gone then its time for their change

      • I have got the rear brake pad changed in my bike at around 12k kms and the front brake pads are still doing good at 16k kms. I mostly use front brakes for stopping purpose. And guess the cone set took the burn of it.

okay. I'll tell them to check the crankshaft

you have gone beyond service limits. Normally in city riding conditions the brake pads will last for 20 K to 26 K kms....your brakes at 32 K kms is close to be like the train wagon's brakes...Metal against Metal...

The things that go bad on crank shaft are:
                1. Main bearing-- you will hear howling sound as you accelerate.
                2. Big end bearing-- you will hear sound like kat kat kat in the engine.

Both will develop over a period of time. For it to happen suddenly you should run the engine without any oil.....from what you have described ,yours is not Crankshaft problem.

Ok ...sorry i mistook it as 32 k...
You definitely have pad dust ,accumulated in the pads.Cleaning involves removing the pads and cleaning with Iso Propheyl alcohol or simple detergent cleaning and drying..Take it to A.S.S..because it is better done by them.

                  • I check the front disc properly. The disc is definitely touching the pad. I can hear noise when I rotate the tyre. How do i rectify this? Is it DIY?

                    • TVS's Rear Tyre Alternative

What is the best tire which will fit perfectly in rtr180's rear wheel other than sreechakra?
It's good on dry surface but really sucks on wet road or if riding with a pillion.

In disc brake system ,whether Car or Bike the pads will be in slight contact with the Disc .In fact the wheel will not rotate as freely as a wheel with conventional drum brake. This will not produce any problem...But the wheel should not be hard to rotate, and if you ride the bike for 2 Km,WITHOUT APPLYING DISC BRAKES,and then touch the disc...the disk should not be hot.If it is,then the brake is binding and should be set right..by A.S.S.It is not D I Y.

Hmm.. Guess that'll have to wait till next weekend. I think it's touching very slightly since I haven't felt any loss is speed or handling. Hopefully there'll be no harm.
