Good to see that most of the riders are wearing helmet there in Calcutta(at-least from the picture). In Hyderabad you hardly see anyone wearing a helmet,I have been questioned by many and they think I ride very rashly because I wear a helmet.

There is no place for bikers on our roads, one has to squeeze through whatever space is available. Sometimes on the single lane highways, the bikers are pushed out of the roads when an oncoming vehicle is overtaking a heavy vehicle.

      i) Calcutta police is very particular about helmets , I already have 2-3 notebook-cases pending against my bike for speed jumping the sergeant without helmet , I have to pay all those fines when I transfer the bike so now I am not risking it anymore , still it's too hot and stuffy for any helmet ii) WB govt is very short on cash , desperate CM raised the tax on cigarettes yesterday and asked everyone to smoke more so that she can collect quickly . So extra fines on bikers expected now .
Everyone is doing just 40 kmph all along the way , just few 100 meters between those red lights no use bursting to 60 even . But I need more torque sometimes to save my skin , those buses often swerve suddenly to get off hasty passengers or avoid oncomming and the driver sure can't see me comming up (rear left blind spot) . Then I need to get out of the way fasssttt without time for a gear shift .

Mr.Pinaki, the roads look free compared to the scene in Chennai...if you visit Chennai, you will think your roads are like Highway ,since our roads are so congested now.....In fact roads outside the city upto 50 kms on every direction is full of traffic.....You are lucky to have such good roads with less traffic..

Haan'jee . And it's getting dreadful day by day with more and more people buying bigger cars like suv but total road surface not increasing much . Bikers are getting bullied out of the road . I still remember the days when just into my college I had bought an yamaha RX100 . Petrol was cheap , roads empty and very few traffic signals . This is however the best & emptiest road in Calcutta , it's the Eastern Metropolitan bypass which avoids the city at all and runs along it's fringes . To traverse the city I just take the Metro-Rail nowdays . I'd love to see all of you post your day to day riding pics .

I couldn't figure out the sound coming from my front faring. The tak tak sound came with even very slight jerk while driving crossing through very small negligible potholes, or even a small stone. There was no sound when i replaced oil for both forks. Sound came after few days i replaced ma only left one pipe. But the sound is coming from the right portion of it. I checked all the bolts they are tight. No sound is coming when pushing forks hard all the way down on a stand bike. No sound on giving it jerk on both side. After too much messing,
I re-adjusted the racers but no avail.
I re-open the wheel, fork, interchange the fork cap & bolt but still no avail.
No sound is coming from meter.
No sound is coming from headlight faring.
              All bolts are tight.

THis is very annoying me. I couldn't find where is the problem. ??

Did you check whether the mudguard/fender is fixed properly and has no play ? Check if all the bolts are tight/not missing.

I faced the same issue when the mudguard/fender cracked and I did everything from adjusting the racer to checking headlamp fairing bolts.(I know your's is steel and can't crack so check the bolts)

If it is still making noise, test ride without the mudguard and headlight assembly. Did you touch the cushion rubber which is present between the fork top and handle bard holder ?

Sibun should guide you in a much better way, keep us updated.

Yes mudguard bolts are tight, today i open the fork so mudguard was re-opened and tightened and has no play.
All bolts are tight man nothing is missing.

All cushion rubbers are in place. If u check my cd-dawn parts catalog page 29, parts number 16 & 19, both these rubbers are in place.

Is this can come from bearings? My wheel bearings have slight play, but that shouldn't be a problem. I got the new bearings but haven't replaced yet. Before that i'm going to repaint rim from inside first.

But sound is more like coming from racer/meter/headlight area.

Try this - Apply the front brake and press the front end with your full weight. It should not make tak-tak noise.

Make someone press down the pillion seat while the bike is on center/main stand, hold both the forks and move it forward and backwards to check for play in the cone. Slight play is normal.

Usually a worn-out cone-set does not make any noise while going over minor bumps, only if the bike's speed is above 30 kmph and you hit a speed breaker or if you brake real hard then a bad steering bearings will make noise.

You replaced your meter bulbs with LED,check them. They might have fallen and is making noise.

Are you sure its coming from the font end ? It could be something else missing. While going over a speed breaker does it make sound when the front wheel goes up or when the rear wheel goes ?

Experience can help tremendously in this situation, there are innumerable things that can make noise and I am sure Sibun will pin-point the problem easily.

It is the sound from the drum, that is the lug of drum plate which slides inside the left fork lock which stops the drum plate from rotating. With age it has play and make sound.
Solution is to loosen the front axle, rotate the wheel and apply brake and tighten the axle nut very tightly with much more torque. Or another solution is to break a small piece from old hacksaw blade and insert it inside the fork lock and lug.

While going over a speed breaker does it make sound when the front wheel goes up or when the rear wheel goes ? Not even a speed breaker. Just a medium damage of road resulting to sound. When i open wheel i tightened it very tightly, i guess some improvement came in sound. So i think u may be correct.
On a stand bike. When i hit my wheel with my leg i hear a sound, but its bit different from the sound i'm actually hearing, i think matches 50%. Not sure if that sound is normal, moreover it looks to me like coming due to play bearings.
I think you are correct, i will check that tomorrow. If not solve will change the bearings too. If still that doesn't help, then i think i will have to remove and refit all the damn parts.

Hit the fork and check if that noise is coming. If it is not then it is everything below the forks which is making noise ie. drum as sibun said.

                          @sibun

Due to wear of the drum plate,Is the play side-wards(towards the axle ends) or front-backwards ?
If it is front-backwards play then it should be making noise every-time the brake is applied and if the play is side-wards then the noise will be created even by the slightest of road irregularities, right ?
