Why not use the stock tool provided in the tool kit, it's just as good as any 6 point socket, not to mention reduce the chance if deforming drain bolt compared to using C spanner or 12 point ring spanner.

I am using the Hero recommended / popularly most not recommended hero 4t plus, now with API SL rating. Earlier I used castrol activ 10w30 and it performed brilliantly. Now let's see how this performs.

Removed the gear shifter for convinience. Now I am making it a habit to change the aluminium washer with every oil change. It would be easier if you have a socket wrench and a funnel [emoji28].

Changed the engine oil today. Bike had become harsh after the malappuram ride.

I think that's the culprit of the mileage issue. 20w50 grade is a strict no-no for hero bikes. It's just too thick and robs away performance and mileage. It can also cause engine damage in the long run. The ideal grade is 10w30 / 10w40. Try motul /castrol 10w30, the issue will be solved.

EDIT :
Hero is using super tight clearences from 2010/bs3 models and even tighter clearence for bs4 models. And these take almost 15-20k km to run in properly [emoji43]. Hence a 20w grade is not suitable in this period.

The old/pre-2010 model bikes can run on any grade of oil but it is not the case with the newer ones.

The tyre pressure is correct. Get it checked every 15 days.

Engine oil has been changed at every service. Used the Hero oil only during first service. Other than that, always used Motul 20w50.

The bike does start at first kick without choke. I warm it up for one minute everyday.

I had also replaced the spark plug 600 kms back. Bought it from the ACS itself.

1. Please check the tyre air pressure.

2. Did the service centre change the engine oil at each service ? If no then change it immediately. The Hero 4T plus 10w30 is famed for its ultra low life of just 1000 km.

The ASC recommends to change it every 3000km and in your manual, it will be 6000km! This oil will give you very good mileage but you should strictly drain it at 1500-1800km.

3. Does your bike start at the very first crank in the morning? Because if the tuning is perfect then it should start at first crank with or without choke.

The spark plug should look something like this-




My plug is Bosch UR4AC. The ASC is providing Champion PRZ7HC I guess. If it is champion plug then replace it with earlier mentioned Bosch or NGK CR6HSA / CR6HGP.

The Champion plug deteriorates very fast. This may be a cause for the low mileage.

These are a few things that I would suggest. A perfectly maintained HF/CD-deluxe should deliver 70-80 kmpl easily as it is the lightest bike on this platform.

Went on a 300+ KM (to & fro) road trip to KODIKUTHIMALA. A beautiful place situated in Malappuram district of Kerala. It's a serene and less crowded spot.
There is a light trek to the view point. It is the first long trip after engine work and I got a mileage of 56 kmpl while the average speed was 70kmph. Not bad I guess .

The front brake switch was replaced yesterday. I bought the switch from Hero Showroom. Cost Rs.30. Then, I went to my mechanic. He replaced the switch in 15 minutes. Now the brake light works fine. Labour charges, Rs.30.

Spark plug is in good condition. Clean it once a month. Yes, basically being a mechanical engineer I service it myself, but the first two services were done at Hero authorised service centres as I had bo time. Even though everything is in good condition, I am getting very low FE. Unable to figure out the reason.

Did you check the spark plug? What plug are you using. Please service the bike by yourself. Most of the service centres ruin the bike in the name of free service. My bike has clocked 86,000 kms and still delivers 72 kmpl. Carburettor has been cleaned only once, that too unnecessarily.

Help needed!!

I am having Hero HF Deluxe i3s March 2018 BSIV model. Done 7000 kms and 4 services.

Before 1st service I was getting a mileage of 71-73 kmpl. After 1st service it went down to 68-70 kmpl. After 2nd service it went down to 63-65 kmpl. After 3rd it was down to 58-60 kmpl. And now after the 4th service its down to 52-53 kmpl.

Air cleaner is in perfect condition. Clean it with compressed air every 15 days. Carburetor is tuned perfectly by myself. Tappet clearance checked. Chain is lubed and adjusted properly. Wheel movements are free.

Daily usage is approx. 20 kms, out of which 15 kms is highway usage and 5 kms is in city with very light traffic. Driving style is very calm and usual speeds are in the range of 30 - 50 kmph. The bike is used only by me.

I am unable to figure out the problem of low FE. Need help from expert members like Sibun ji.

With my driving style, I am able to extract 60-62 kmpl FE from my 11 years old Yamaha Gladiatior RS which has clocked 80k kms.

I wonder how a bike which is famous for its great FE is giving such a low FE.
