Re: Hero Honda CBZ Classic
My charming CBZ*
Model : 2004
Self start variant
Seal Engine
ODO reading: 23K only so far in these 14 Years
Pics taken Date : 16 May 2018
Only changes made so far :
1. Front and rear Tyres(bcos older tyres had good gripping but it started giving cracks from the sides)
2. Clutch plate set(Clutch Center,Clutch Hub,Steel plates, Clutch plates) (clutch plates worn out as my bike was sitting idle for more than 1.5 yrs)
3. Battery (Self start variant) (bcos battery got drained completely beyond recharge as i did not used it for more than 1.5 yrs)
Need some suggestion guys, My bike is still in showroom condition ,but I have observed a slight drop in the pickup
Earlier I used to feel the instant rise in pickup after i continue to increase the throttle from its half way
but now that instant pickup is gone..
I checked with multiple mechanics here in Hyderabad 9/10 guys said the bike needs no changes at all as its in the pristine engine condition,
one mechanic said engine power is gone and needs engine work
and another mechanic said clutch bell(which sits at gear transmission needs to be checked as he senses there is a small play(ply) in it and needs to be addressed(lathe work)..
I am in dilemma if i should trust this mechanic and give my bike or no???
Anyone who has the similar experience can give me valuable suggestions
my other thought is to buy a ZMR engine and assemble it with alloy version??
to update it I had another CBZ* 2005 model without self start model
km run when sold - 28000
but sold it due to many bikes at home
seal engine again , with all stock original parts, not even a small cable was replaced

the pic was taken in 2014 yr
hope my bike posts makes many cbz lovers happy heartfully again

Re: Hero Honda CBZ Classic
Engine work after 23k in a well kept Honda is not common. Better to take it a good Honda SVC. I am a bit worried when you said that it was sitting idle for a few years. It could be just the tuning issue or probably carbs needs a replacement.
Don't trust these local mechs. I would suggest just keep riding it with a normal service if there are no obvious issues. All engines do reduce in performance with time. There's no way they would remain at the same level after 14 years!
Oh, forgot to say, that's one hell of a CBZ mate. Well kept.Contribute to the environment.

i have a 2002 model CBZ classic black which has done 75k on stock engine. 23k is too early for Engine issues.Originally posted by meherdawlekar View PostMy charming CBZ*

as for CBZ classic and Star the diffrence was the Cat-con was gone and from keihin carb they move to mikuni slide Carb to boost the FE.
few things to check if there is a drop in acceleration.
1. spark plug. as its over 10 year old . replace the spark plug if not replaced in last few year with the Original NGK ones.
2. open the carb and clean it with proper carb cleaner to make it perfectly like a new carb and check the idle and main jets. they should not be blocked.
3. air fliter
4. check with a voltmeter what amount of electrivity its creating at idle and at about 5000 rpm. at idle it should be about 12V and about 14V at 5000 or so rpm.
if all these check out good then check of any uneven sounds ( valve noisue- might need tappet/valve clearance ) adjustment.
run 1-2 round of Shell Rimula R4 of 1000 km each to clean up the engine gunk well.
that should do it... DO NOT OPEN THE ENGINE at 28000 km. not happening.
check the exhaust tip. do you see any oily deposits ( not dry carbon).
engine oil reducing over time ??"A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel."

you sure the cbz came with mikuni carbs,AFAIK cbz always came with the keihin pumper carb , but the late models were down jetted for economy and emissionsOriginally posted by theironhorse99 View Posti have a 2002 model CBZ classic black which has done 75k on stock engine. 23k is too early for Engine issues.

the later models had some changes in the carbs..Originally posted by kb100 View Postyou sure the cbz came with mikuni carbs,AFAIK cbz always came with the keihin pumper carb , but the late models were down jetted for economy and emissions
old one was probably venturi . new ones were keinhin slide carbs...
i will gather more information on this but i am sure there was a change in carb and cat con
Only the carburetor was changed from the Sliding Type carburetor to a conventional CV carburetor.

Re: Hero Honda CBZ Classic
the initial models had an exhaust with a larger dia hole, and then the dia decreased.. they probably added a catcon circa 2000 iirc.Originally posted by kb100 View Postapart from the catcon and jets there was no change , the cbz always came with the same keihin oval venturi pumper carb

and i've heard the star model had the accelerator pump removed to improve FE but have no way of confirming it. the star did not feel as nice as the original one in terms of acceleration..me having had the lucky chance of riding both of them in stock avatars when new.

you might want to go over the workshop manual that is posted above. especially the fuel system parts where they have given some troubleshooting info.Originally posted by meherdawlekar View PostNeed some suggestion guys, My bike is still in showroom condition ,but I have observed a slight drop in the pickup

i'd advice you first get your petrol tank, fuel tap, carb thoroughly cleaned the accelerator cable cleaned/lubed and adjusted correctly, chain sprockets inspected and adjusted, before touching other engine parts.Last edited by s1d; 06-25-2018, 05:05 AM.

engine oil reducing over time ??
there is no such traces of oil deposits at silencer tip and also no engine oil level reduction so far
I did checked few things as you mentioned above :
1. spark plug. YES I HAVE BOUGHT A NEW NGK IRIDIUM SPARK PLUG,i will install it (Note: guys who needs info which model suits best for CBZ/Karizma the spark plug model is DPR8EIX-9, cost 647INR
2. open the carb and clean it with proper carb cleaner to make it perfectly like a new carb and check the idle and main jets. they should not be blocked.( I think i need to catch hold of mechanic to do so)
3. air fliter (i have cleaned it)
4. check with a voltmeter what amount of electrivity its creating at idle and at about 5000 rpm. at idle it should be about 12V and about 14V at 5000 or so rpm.(need to do)
also will use the engine oil mentioned(Shell Rimula R4 ) and see the difference
and update soon.

I am not aware what is Cat-con ???
this post will be a good information source for fellow cbz'ians too

sure bro, I will go through the manual booklet and as mentioned to clean carb, accelerator cable and chain sprockets, and also few suggestions from theironhorse99Originally posted by s1d View Postthe initial models had an exhaust with a smaller dia hole, and then the dia increased.. they probably added a catcon circa 2000 iirc.
