Re: Hero Honda CBZ Classic
Guys I need some help... as stated somewhere else in the forums,
I have a black CBZ 1999 model, the very 1st one (my dad's). Odo is mid 30k Kms only so it runs fine for it's age, plus I got it serviced at Hero Service center where they replaced the battery. There are still a few niggles for want of spares. I called the hero toll free number and they said I would be able to find them at the Hyderabad Hero Spare parts dealer but, my calls to them remain unanswered, may be I will visit them sometime when I am in the city. The next option was safexbikes - but, they are expensive and I was a bit skeptical so, I moved them. Luckily I was able to find a spare parts shop in my hometown Kakinada who said they could source some spares for the bike. Here are my requirements.
1. The front mudguard was broke in half - replaced it with brand new Sai Brand one purchased at the shop. It fit in perfectly and looks good too. The old one does feel a lot sturdy though. (Cost Rs 350)
2. Side panels. They came loose due to broken screw slots etc. The old panels were dark- cement colored, the news one from Sai Brand are black (not shiny kind) but, fit in well. (Cost Rs 500) They have this cheap looking TPFC stickers on them, yuck!
3. Front cowls (small ones) under the tank, the right one broke off. Replaced both with Sai Brand. (Cost Rs 400). Same cheap looking stickers. You will not notice unless you have a closer look though.
4. Tank has a tiny whole since ages which has been plugged by some putty kinda thing. No tank replacement available locally. They suggested getting it welded. But, since it's not a big issue I decided to wait and try for a genuine spare part. Any idea where I can find one? Safex has it for Rs.5k but, some off branded one I think.
5. Stickers - apparently they cost Rs 600 and the bikes needs a fresh paint of coat before placing them. No thank you.
6. The keys and key slots are worn off and it's become a hassle to operate the key. No sign of genuine spare parts anywhere. Any idea where I can find one?
7. The real issue which I need it solved asap is the HEADLIGHTS! The headlights turn on fine but, the thing is they are absolutely useless during the nights! The luminosity or brightness is just isn't enough on roads these days. I was travelling to the next town and ended up on a small stretch of a state highway which has no lights and I was forced to practically drive in pitch blackness!! It was horrifying. I switched on the signal lights for extra visibility and had to ride in 2nd gear at low speeds or wait a bigger vehicle and use it's lights to see ahead! The damn lights were on the whole time! So, I got them checked by a local mechanic who said this is standard for the bike!! No improvement possible with the stock parts. I asked him about LED lights and he said it might be possible if I replace the battery. What about other electrical parts though?
How do I improve the brightness? Should I replace the electrical coil or the whole wiring, battery etc?

Re: Hero Honda CBZ Classic
Yes I have seen MANY bikes like that but somehow don't have the energy and time to get restoration and paperwork done. This one has a sealed engine run 73K kms. And I really felt it runs like new when I rode it so thinking of getting it and just cosmetic restoration will be needed.Originally posted by Om1234 View Posti would suggest getting one in a worst condition

Re: Hero Honda CBZ Classic
Slightly off topic. I recently renewed insurance for my CBZ. The bike is absolutely fine, ran for 35k odd Kms only. The insurance company valued my bike at Rs 6000! I just putting this out there for relative comparison only.Originally posted by Sarvajit View PostYes I have seen MANY bikes like that but somehow don't have the energy and time to get restoration and paperwork done. I got zadonOriginally posted by Sarvajit View PostAny experience with them? They seem to have Hero GP as well Zadon etc.
They were not exact fit for the bike
mechanic had to some work ,rubbing the body with a axe,to get it fitted properly
and till now they are working well
Regarding engine parts ,they are exact fit and doing well on bike

Re: Hero Honda CBZ Classic
Hi Mate,Originally posted by Sarvajit View PostHi All,
I am planning to pick up a CBZ Classic 2003 model with green tax paid and registration extended. The engine and suspension seems to be perfect, but few body panels are cracked. He is asking for a high price coz such bikes are hard to come by.
I needed inputs from owners as to whether I will be able to maintain the bike considering scarcity of spares.
Any pointers would be helpful, especially in Hyderabad.
Even I'm from Hyderabad and was thing of doing the same sometime ago and must admit that I have succeeded to some extent in this journey.
I was clear that I needed only a Self-Start bike and hence had to go with CBZ* (Star) and after rigorous search, found a 2005 model bike which is in pathetic condition (only god knows how I drove this bike to home) from Koti. Shelled out 24K to own this bike which is very pricey (shouldn't have spent more than 6K for a bike in that condition). My idea was to buy a scrap bike with proper documents and restore it completely.
I managed to buy almost all the spares except Fuel tank and Cylinder head and have been procuring these for last 1year - all of these spares costed me almost 30K and restoration would cost atleast another 10K. I'm just waiting for the Fuel tank, Cylinder head and few other minor spares to start my restoration work.
My advice is better look for some old bike at a reasonable price and get it restored- which can survive for next 20yrs.

Chaitanya

I have had a very bad experience with Safex - they post the spares as genuine Hero GP, charge the price of Genuine spares but send you Non-OEM and spurious spares and if you are lucky enough a few times you might get the manufacturer spares (like Pricol, Swiss, etc.) against your order for Hero GP (if the price of Hero GP product is Rs. 2,039/- price of Pricol would be Rs. 1,899/-; you are charged for Hero GP and delivered Pricol)
In case you ask for return or exchange, they'll ask you to send the spares back at your expense.
Another key note is that they take the orders that they have everything in stock (I dropped a mail and got confirmation before placing order that everything is available and is in stock) and you only realize after placing order that they don't have anything in stock. I have placed an order worth Rs. 22,000/- had my money blocked with them for 45 days and after multiple followups finally have refunded by cutting some amount @1000/- (didn't bother to argue further as I almost lost hope in getting this amount itself).
There is one more site "www.thesparescompany.com" - I have got some good experience with them but again very slow at response - a guy named Pramod is very helpful.

Chaitanya

Hi, though I don't have anything to say on the lighting I can help you with the fuel tank - I could trace out 3 fuel tanks of CBZ Classic and one of CBZ Star.Originally posted by Hero View PostTank and Improved headlights. Let me know the color of the tank you are looking for - I can give you the leads.

Outside market will always try to fleece us and sell off to someone else for a good profit. How was the engine and body condition?
I have options of buying some bikes at 6-8K but no time or energy to restore. Also, total price will go well above 20K for restoration alone hence considering this one though he's asking an exorbitant amount for it!Quench my thirst with gasoline!
