I had a test ride of the Ninja at Nik's Motocafe. And the bike is quite good. The details:
I was the first to arrive at the pavillion at Motocafe. I parked my 220 and had a chat with the Bajaj officials. And then proceeded towards a test ride after filling a form. I asked them "are the tyres warm enouugh?" They were so tensed after hearing that! Wondering what i was upto? But i asked that because i have seen people with cold tyres skidding at Lavasa. I was properly geared so was the pillion rider from Bajaj. I warmed the engine a bit and set out for the ride. I took it easy for first moments. and then opened her at 3rd. The pillion rider was scared i think. He held on to me tightly
! Slowed down on 4th, downshifted with a big whoom and belted her right to the redline. That was the time when she was alive for the first time! The power is higher up the rev range. So need to rev her hard to feel the punch.6k I think. Then took a high speed corner at 80kmph. She feels planted and firm. Revs rise steadily. The final approach to cafe was completed by a full racing crouch.
Then the official said that I can ride on my own. Then i went for another ride. This time redlined her in 2nd and 3rd. The punch is very good! But the traffic bothered me. As soon as I was in the power band, i was near a car!
Then tried some cornering and i was impressed. Feels so much steady. I can carry a lot of speed in the corners. The exit is also swift without needing downshift. The rider input required is less than my 220. The telemetry is spot on for fast street riding. The rear brake is very good. It has a strong bite unlike the 220. Just a tap and it sheds speed. Finally went out to top speed of 120 kmph. I wanted to do more but the traffic was pissing me off.
Finally told the person that I have ridden big bikes in my life. Namely the Blade [03,04] and R1[06]. I am aware of the power delivery of these bikes. I can anticipate the power curve. Showed them the photo proof. Then they were little bit relieved.
I want to try this bike on a proper racetrack. Would love to do some serious cornering. I believe i can touch my knees with this bike. But it is just a 250cc 33 ps bike. Need something more powerful.
Finally had a good interaction with the Bajaj officials. Had a discussion as to why can't we have the ZX6Rs and ZX10Rs? I would definitely go for a bigger Kwacker in near future. But it must be the ultimate adrenaline injection. Which can do very good cornering. ZX10R and ZX6R were my requests to them. Lets keep our fingers crossed!
Cheers!

Got a chance to ride the Ninja in some heavy rain. I must say the tyres performed better than I expected. Very confidence inspiring. Of course, I didnt really put them through an acid test but the initial impression is good.

Thanks Bluevolt..Still got miles to go before I catch up with youOriginally posted by bluevolt View Post
Super cool! That is a lot of distance by any means - I clocked 11,200 kms in 58 days but most of that came from my pan India trip in february, so that is not a fair comparison.
Thanks Amod...Probably u should start a new thread -"Will the real mumbai ninja owners plz stand up?" and u might get someOriginally posted by A-mod View PostKiller stuff Jayanth...congrats...Mumbai Ninja scene seems kinda dormant...either no activities or I'm not checking at the right places...

Lil did i know dat Bajaj was involved. I would have come for a test ride too for a ride on the GREEN one
This is why I just keep telling ppl that all this hoopla over rain riding (tyre sliding and blah blah) is bollocks.Originally posted by Hyperion View PostGot a chance to ride the Ninja in some heavy rain. Happened to ride it on the first day it rained in pune around a couple of weeks back. Rode it through almost shin deep water on karve road at speeds of 40. Didnt feel anything at all. Infact with the fairing around it felt butter smooth to ride in water...
Touched speeds of 130 on the warje to Baner (Blore-Pune) highway
(the roads were very wet but it had stopped raining)
and i had to keep telling myself that the roads were wet and was trying to dig my grave before i really slowed down
! Felt good to overtake all those cages doing 40-50 at speeds of 100+ on the wet!!
Only thing i felt was that the braking distance went up significantly..so u need to be keep in mind the same.http://www.californiasuperbikeschoolindia.blogspot.com

Feel of the Mini Kwacker.
I knew much in Advance of the TD of the Ninja, that it was scheduled to take place before the 'Helmet Awareness Ride'.
Reached, Motocafe Pune and I saw a couple of people taking the rides. I decided to go inside the cafe and have a TD of it a little later.
So, after about an hour went to the guy incharge. I asked him some Questions about the response and how their aftersales is behaving. He was a good and confident man. His name was Gaurav. I told him, that its really positive to see such entries of Bikes in India. I told him I own a ZX-6R back at home and it definitely is better than the R6 in terms of power figures. Though the R6 eats the ZX-6R for breakfast in terms of looks. I also told him, that I've never ridden a 250cc class bike before. He asked me to try it.
Went up, turned the ignition and let it idle for a minute. No Growl. Nothing of that sort. Sounded very calm.
Hit 1st gear and it was torquey. Built up the revs, and like almost all Superbikes, the power is always at the end. Was at 10,000RPM and she was screaming. The power band is very linear, and be it 3000 RPM or 8000RPM it delivers power.
The Brakes have the necessary bite. Progressive!
Simply, IMHO, its worth the money you shell out for this. Rightly placed.------------------------------------------------

Ownership Experiences
It was nice meeting you and rahul at nandi hills....Originally posted by n_aditya View PostNice buy dude. That microfiber cloth is really good and I hope you are happy with it.
Please do let me know where I can buy the green rim tapes for my ninja. Checked with Orion Yamaha and they dont stock 'em anymore.
Badly wanna buy a set for my babe.
What brand of crash bobbins are those which DSG is selling? I'm pretty sure some modification is required to fit them as there is no provision for a "bolt-on" crash bobbin on the 250R. Even the No-Cut frame sliders from Shogun will need grinding of the crank case cover to fit them. And it fits on the engine mount. Not a good option if you ask me. But curious to know which brand it is. Please let us know.
OMG, this bike looks so delicious in flesh. It was like comparing Angelina Jolie and Catherine Zeta Jones. LOL.
I use the ArmorAll Wash n Wax too and it does a really good job. If you still wanna wax the bike then buy Turtle Wax or better still Meguiar's wax polish. They are the best.
It still looks hawt Rahul. Looks like a custom short exhaust with carbon fiber finish. Loved it. Subtle yet very catchy.
Man what a lovely ride it was. We went to Nandi hills just after sunrise and it was so cloudy and foggy up there. Started to rain on the top and just as we were soaking in the beauty some jokers spolied the fun with loud music and stupid stunts with their cars.
Reluctantly we returned back to blore. On the way 2 other jokers on pulsar's overtook us and were raising hands and cheering as if they won some race. What loser's !!! There is no dearth of them on our roads LOL.
I enjoyed the ride and it was nice to meet VKushal too at Nandi. It was a nice sight to have 3 Green Ninja's next to each other.
Thanks a ton for helping me with the tankpad Rahul. I appreciate it biiiiiiiig time.
Sorry could not spend more time with the gurus, as my friends were waiting...
May be for the future, all those who possess the baby can meet up sometime...
Wats your say on that?RIP Marco

I did some informal research and concluded that the aftermarket exhaust (particularly slip ons) do not provide any worthwhile improvement in power or sound which would make them VFM. Except for the looks I wish I would get someone to say they actually work because I was myself contemplating to for one!Originally posted by karthik_R View PostCosmetics apart, has anyone here tried an after market exhaust? If yes, what results?
The dyno charts and claimed HP increase by the companies is also something which we cant verify easily.

A slip on will not have noticeable bump in power or performance. But the sound will definitely improve. Performance gain is very mild and minimal. Lesser restriction to the flow of exhaust gases will only very slightly bump up the power but this is negligible. I would say a max of 1-2 bhp can be expected with a slip-on and nothing more.... esp. for the 250R.Originally posted by Sunny View PostI did some informal research and concluded that the aftermarket exhaust (particularly slip ons) do not provide any worthwhile improvement in power or sound which would make them VFM. There is an XBHP Delhi member who has a 250R with an aftermarket slip-on. Check back a couple of pages. He did say that the sound has improved a lot and that was the motivation to get the slip-on. He wasn't expecting major performance gains anyway.
Edit - Green Rim Tapes are in stock at the Bangalore Wheels Yamaha outlet. For some reason Orion does not have them in stock since the past month and a half.Last edited by n_aditya; 06-08-2010, 01:38 PM.ATGATT - Because hospital ceilings are boring !!!
