Next time I go for getting the service for the bike, I am going to tell them that their misadventures and trial and errors with the bike have earned them quite a reputation around.
    yeh you are right.

let me request trust vishwas to please sent a e mail to bajaj probiking ( the email id is in the ninja owners manual) describing the incident.

let us see if the response is positive.

      • Brake Jam

Thanks guys for the support. I had sent a mail to Bajaj regarding brake jam problem.

Local company officer called me the same day and asked me to bring bike to service centre today morning.

        Solution :

Rear brake pedal should have around 5mm free play and then the brake should start engaging. If you press rear brake pedal with your hand, you should find distinctive difference between play and brake engagement.

In my bike's case, there was no free play so the oil pushed by the brake piston was not returning after releasing the brake. This resulted in slight engagement of brake pads.

Please see the image below to know correct distance between two points. If your rear brake settings are not confirming to this parameter, please get it rectified asap.

Now the problem is resolved to my satisfaction and thanks bajaj for prompt corrective action.

ps. - I had washed the bike on saturday but due to rains, you will find it extremely muddy.... This is not it's normal condition...... really

the fact remains that it was created by PBK in the first place. may be they should give you a couple of free services .

Its just feels like one and hence I am calling it as one i.e. tank-slap

While googling for the problem you also get more hits referring to this problem as a tankslap.

Infact thats what I googled again and found the link I was talking about.
here it is Ninja 250, shakes when i go no hands...

Tank slap is that what happend to me yesternight when I landed one of the front pop ups wrong lol.

But I will tell you why I consider this dangerous.

On Vishwa's Ninja I have had this mini tank slap sorta feeling at the bars as I was very intentionally holding onto the bars as light as possible for I was doing good speeds. Out of nowhere this thing just jumped at me and I was found wondering to myself if the front had lifted for me to experience a tank slap. I slowed down the bike and looked around to see for someone who might have noticed me for I myself was clueless why it happened.. Vishwas was riding behind me but he noticed nothing.
I cannot prove it but I am of a strong opinion that this thing is being triggered at very high rpms on its own like its being triggered between 40kmph to 80 kmph while decelerating.

During my ride to nandi hills , on the strech to airport, i gave this a try and between the speeds (de-accelerating from 100 to 60 kms/hr) and found it , that the bike really shudders badly..

Any solutions for the same found?
              RIP Marco

Jokes apart...fantastic end to your brake issue. That edited pic you posted is gonna save lives !

Your systematic approach got you the solution. Great.

A mal-adjusted pedal is just one of the reasons for jammed brakes. It still is important to make sure the caliper pins are free in their slots. Jammed caliper pins will make the pads drag on the disc and eventually cause brake lock-up.

Did the Bajaj people give any reason for the reduction in pedal clearance? Usually, as the pads wear out, the pedal free play increases rather than decrease. The reduction in pedal free play could be due to one effect of worn out brake pads. The piston seal lip protrudes further as the pads wear out and gets more deformed. Were your brake pads worn out close to the wear limit? Adjustment of free-play is fine but why it should reduce with use is worth asking about.

I guess for us riders, it is important to know one's steed in its 'normal' condition. Only then do we have the reference to be sensitive to the abnormality.

Here are two links. The first is a pdf that describes the disc brakes in a very basic way. its actually from a 4 wheeler website but the basics are similar.

This second link is for downloading the ninja 2007, 2008 shop manual. The 2009 model has fuel injection but the running gear etc are similar to the previous year's models.

Because a front brake-lock would be a goner.

In fact, I had changed front and rear brake pads on 27.8. I feel that after changing pads, the pedal free play was not properly adjusted.

I was feeling that the bike was bit sluggish for last so many days but felt that now that I have owned this bike for a year, I am getting used to its power and hence the feeling. Now I know that I was wrong.
