Your wife must be extremely brave to agree to use the pillion seat for any long tour. My wife starts walking towards her car even when I mention taking her to corner restaurant on my bike.

Bad idea if you are serious by any means. While riding the Ninja make sure that you are always wearing the A*jacket along with the gloves.

Btw congrats for your new purchase and as Vishwas said Mahabaleshwar is the best bet among the three options mentioned by you but make sure you read the posts made by oldfox and others as how to change gears while going up in a ghat section else you will feel underpowered.

You'll have to downshift the 2nd once again to pull. The shifts have to be sharp, quick and very well-timed.
Though theoretically I am not sound enough in this aspect and cannot comment on gear ratios, and even though I do-not own a Ninja, but speaking purely by practical implementation and experience, I completely agree with OldFox on this.

Going up a hill, proper timing of up and down shifts are infact very important. Improper downshifts while going up, can result in loss of power. With experience you get to know how much and when to downshift depending on your current momentum wrt the degree of incline you encounter.

Downshifts while going down (more used for engine braking) can be disastrous! Tricky situations arise at times, where one downshift wont be enough for you to brake in time and take the curve properly and two downshifts would result in a wheel lock, and then you are at god's mercy!

pointless." said reason. "Give it a try." whispered the heart ....

                • My comment on the Ninja struggling uphill was with more than 30 kilos of extra weight of my luggage and riding leathers combined. I was using only gears 1-3 on the ghat sections - you can overtake other vehicles easily, but as Tenhut pointed out, the difference between riding on plains and ghats is very pronounced.

I rode my bike yesterday for the first time in many days without luggage, and boy, it was bucking like a wild horse. What a change without all the excess baggage

Raj - get a FZ16 hugger for your Ninja first, it saved my rear shock from being smothered in mud. For other stuff, I am sure active Pune members can help you. Great to know you are going to get your Ninja soon!

@n_aditya: frame sliders should cost you around 8000-9000 all inclusive..so i guess it is better to have them & in most cases it should save your bike when you fall. so i think it is a good investment.

                    • Finally the baby is here.... Need advice

Hi All - After a long wait of 135 days, got the bike on 27th Feb. I have driven it for 410 kms in last 2 days. Few things which I need a advice

                      1. While riding down hill and on bad roads, lot a wait is transferred on the palms. Is it due to my riding position?
                      2. After 300kms the smoothness of the bike has lost. The ride is bit harsh/rough. Any suggestions?
                      3. The bike bounces a lot on bad roads. Are there any soft setting in shock absorbers?

                      Good things:
                      1. 1st I was scared to ride it as I never drove anything such big before. But amazingly its very easy to ride. I got used in few kms itself
                      2. The bike is people magnet. Everybody wants to talk to you. Get a lot of attention
                      3. Awesome handling
                      4. I was able to climb the Varndha ghat almost on 6th gear. Its ability to pull from 25-30km/hr is amazing. very less gear changes required. Same was the case while riding the ghats from Poladpur to Mahableshwar.

                        Congrats.

Wow, you took it to the Varandha ghats? Not known for the smoothest roads, you are really giving it the acid test.

                            1. A lot of weight is on the bars/wrists/palms if you arent using the abdomen and lower back muscles to suspend your torso in a forward slanting position. Going downhill is an even bigger ***** lol...shift back on the seat and lock onto the tank with your knees while going downhill. Remember that this will make u feel unbalanced at first. Not putting pressure on the bars will help you save your bacon when the time comes.
2.The bike will become more throatier with increasing kms and feel harshrough. if u think its vibrating waaaay too much then take it to the service centre as it could be the fairing.
                            3. Your bike is new...so its gonna be a hard ride for a while untill the suspension gets broken in. Dont worry about it..for you shall get used to it in no time and once the engine break in is done you shall actually come to appreciate the sporty suspension. The rear can be changed to soft settings..if u ask me it makes a difference setting it up on soft but still is pretty harsh on the ass. With time, the front and rear will compress and stiffen at a better rate.

                            Enjoy the kwacker !

The scenario here is the same. I intend telling her that I will be taking her shopping. Yes, @Mahabaleshwar for strawberry shopping . Let me be honest here, the pillion rider seat is like sitting on pilot seat

Point taken. I use them only for long drives and give a skip for short ones like going to office and back home. I will make it a point to use them hence forth when I use by baby. As it is getting hotter these days, I will remove the inner lining so that I do not get roasted J.

Congrats for completing the training @Chennai. From your post it was evident how tough & exciting the training was.

Another question I had was where do I park my Baby @Roopali? Taking into consideration with my 4 days of driving experience on Ninja, I see the public literally go haywire on sighting the baby. I am not comfortable parking my baby on the roadside away from my sight (I am protective father ).
Yeh, I do watch the Pune g2g thread and I am part of the sms list. I will join in one of these days.
I have all the basic safely gear, except the knee cap. I will be getting them shortly.

I too am having similar issues such as neck pain (Maybe because of my new helmet / Posture). I have lots of load on the wrist & elbow. As @tenhut pointed out, it could be I am not using the abdomen and lower back muscles. I will try this tonight
