ALL bikers who are undertaking a long drive be ware that high RPM driving consumes most of the engine oil ,and it is better to take at least a Liter of engine oil with you and keep topping it up regularly.
You should ask the Mech to check for crankshaft damage, and change it along with your Bore and Piston....A crankshaft which had run without oil is definitely bound to have damaged bearing .
^^^ Psr i am still confused what went wrong. Its not the first time i have done a long high speed run. In 20k kms almost 17k kms are on highways only. And in this trip of 5 days nothing happened till 4 days, the problem started on 5th day only. These five days there were not many high speed runs as we rode only in hills. The problem was already there but it surfaced out after stressfull hill ride.
I guess i was expecting to much from these machines and took it to its breaking point.

Went to a long 1200+ kms hill trip and while returning heard weired metal crankling sound from the engine. It was late at night and still had to cover 300 kms to reach home. Looked for a doctor to show her but all in vain.
So ride her back to home with fear in heart that she can give up anytime in the middle of long lone highway but she didnt. Reached home and shown to a mech, he said there is no Engine oil and the bike is running completely dry and can seize anytime.
The first thing came in mind WTF , howcome this happened. It was 2k kms since last engine oil change or the TVS SVC didn't put any engine oil after gear bearing work.
I felt like for all these 2k kms i was slow posioning her. I was such a fool that neither bothered to check the engine oil in the whole trip even once .
I was riding her hard all this time and she never shown a sign of her sufferings.
Took her today to TVS SVC, was so pissed off that i would have hit hard the mech who have worked on her last time. Somehow controlled.
The mech there checked the exhaust and found thick carbon deposits in the exhaust and said, all the engine oil might have burnt along with fuel.

I told them that i got done all bike services from there SVC and they should have checked the things and they again started giving there lame excuses like it happens with time and all those bu**s**t.
Later they said Cylinder kit need to be changed(which will be under warranty) but i have to wait for some 15+ days, as like always, the things are not in Stock .

I am still waiting for replacement of rear left shocker which is even after 10 days waiting not in stock.

They dont even keep the bare minimum requirement parts
Now i have to again go through the tiring process of running
For the time being they are going to put engine oil and suggested me to ride less and keep a check on engine oil level.

Guys is there anything else or any other part could have damaged badly along with the cylinder kit which i could get replaced?

The only thing which is positive here is because of my regular servicing, dont have to pay for the parts but have to pay for the labour only.

It seems to me as a never ending iterations with the SVC.
Hoping for good and lets see what comes up next.

PS: Guys keep a check of the thick carbon deposit inside the exhaust as the above can happen with anybody who is getting bike serviced from SVC.
Same problem as mine friend. My bike was also out of engine oil after just 300 km ride in two days. Adjusting the timing chain and setting the tappet clearence didn't work for me. Its feeling like my baby is out of its breath, very harsh and viby ride with no sign of RTR pickup. The engine oil was very low and black when checked after those two 100 km shots. But now I got an idea that its relly a big deal not just a small prob. Update me as well when and what you are going to do to get the things again on road. It will give me a real support if you will share the progress of work with me.

By the way thanks for replying, those replys were really" Universal Truths".

      • @rocker & FLying Jian:
There are 2 reasons for engine oil getting in combustion chamber:
        1. Blown valve oil seal
        2. Damaged piston rings.

As PSR said, If you have run the bike without oil, do check the crankshaft bearings for sure.
Also, find the path of oil and sort the issue. Get ports cleaned and valves lapped. This should be accompanied with valve oil seal change.

As both of you have bikes under warranty, get it done from SVC under warranty. If they are not ready for that, talk to area service manager regarding this.
There's lot to it other than saddle....

            • Brief 12000kms report of my RTR FI:

              1. Fuel bar was kaput, went to my mech opened the whole tank up to find the thing rusted, as usual TVS was outta stock of it, cleaned it properly and fixed, it started working but after two days got mind of it's own.

              2. Petrol tank lid went almost in two pieces outta nowhere, will be goin tomorrow to get it repaired.

              3. Engine is super harsh above 8000RPM ( after the last oil change bike has done 900kms)

              4. Brakes are working top notch.

              5. No missing whatsoever.

Its just that the service indicator is pre-defined to start glowing at the service intervals in terms of kms. As we all get our bikes serviced at the kms readings slightly after or before the recommended... (which is normal), so the indicator glows even after getting bike serviced...

Its a Do It Yourself job... press and hold both the buttons on the console for 5-10 seconds and its done

                  • Guys, still having this particular problem even after the last service (spark plugs were changed 2 services back and the bike has run nearly 12k on the odometer). The bike sometimes just shuts off in traffic...and i have to stop and start the damn thing again or sometimes it comes back to life. What could be the problem? It also does it sometimes after i go to start the bike when its parked for a while. I have to turn it off and turn the key to the on position a few times before the needle sweeps and its ready to go.

                      • Hi EveryBody !

                        Hi Guys,

Am Shan from Hyderabad. This is my first post in this forum. Even before deciding to go for a APACHE RTR 160, i was diggin an drillin d internet for all info i could collect for me to take a decision.I had finalized only two options in no particular order: YAMAHA FAZER, RTR 160. I seriously want to appreciate this forum, as i found a lot many useful, crisp, hitting-the-nail-on-its-head kinda view points. It was incredibly helpful in me going forward and choosing an RTR.

Now am a proud owner of RTR 160 - HYPER EDGE GREY colour. Got it yesterday.

I ll keep track of the happenings in this forum. Do Support me as we go along.

Cheers and ROCK d ROAD all APACHIAN"Z......

i thought it may have been the ignition coil, but i will have the service center check the ignition switch.

                            Try this:
disconnect ignition switch and short red and orange wire in ignition switch connector (white connector). Ride the bike and check whether you face problem.

Have you opened up each and every part of your bike ?

Got my 2nd servicing done yesterday , only nuts and bolts had gone loose , i got it teflon coated they charged only for that. Stayed there only to get some minor changes and made sure they use dupont teflon.

FI though has most certainly stopped. I think considering it's thought of premium technology, they should've waited to put it on a big bike, like Bajaj did with the 220, but I guess even they've yanked it... we love our carbs huh.
I think by RD he meant Apache Redefined...thats a model that was in market before Hyperedge..I own an Hyperedge Rear Disk one..
I think they will come with FI again...they made a big mess when they launched it...actually they wanted to compete with the rivals but they didnt think about the fact that the TVS SVC persons have to be educated on how working on this technology...that is why we wont find many service centers who has the technology to work on FI...anyway as u said we luv our carb version
