RTR Engine Mod
Hey Buddies... This is my first post...
I own a 2012 Apache RTR 160 in Chennai and i need to know what all kind of ENGINE modifications could be done on it?..
I used a K&N for few months and my baby started to sound rough...
Tat was the least i knew.... now i want a perfect mod which would increase my performance... that would be top speed and pickup... i dont mind the FE going a down a few kms...
and i'm thinking of changing the rear suspension to a mono-shock.. will there be any disadvantages to my ride quality??
I'm so confused.. Hope someone would guide me through this

Re: RTR Engine Mod
All honda bikes/scooters are known for this cold start issue. Well in RTR you find that atleast. Also dont expect the bike to be smooth like unicorn. It will be rough and there will be vibration but if you dont mind that then this is the perfect pocket-rocket bike you can get. The more better you look after your bike the lesser the issues.Originally posted by arjunb25 View PostHi friends after my accident I have sold out my old unicorn and now I am planning for appache rtr 160 front disc and rear drum or a hero cbz xtreme can u please suggest me which one would be good without problems. REgarding CBZ, I have no idea. Please post your query in CBZ thread.
Haven't you checked race concepts?Originally posted by mukeshk17 View PostHey Buddies... This is my first post...

Regarding performance joel is the one you should contact.
K&N is only sound effect & no performance gain.

Re: RTR Engine Mod
Hello fellow apacheans,
I have a TVS Apache RTR HE model which I bought in September 2013. My bike has so far done 3.5k km on odo. I have completed two free services so far. I once took my bike to the SVC complaning about tappet noise. My bike had done 1.2k km then. The mechanic said it was not tappet noise but some other noise coming from the engine. He said he had to tighten a nut to fix it. When I drove my bike for a few kms after his fix I had the same noise again. I took it back to the SVC and he said that this time it is the tappet noise and so he again opened my engine. This time when he returned me my bike I could see engine oil leaking from the oil filter region. I said nothing. Simply took the bike. Rode for a few kms and then again when the engine got hot I started having tappet noise. Later I came to know via xbhp that tappet noise is a feature of RTR engins. The tappet noise in my engine was not extreme at any time. It was only loud whed the engine got really hot. Since I didnt know that all apache bikes have some tappet niose I panicked and took my bike to the SVC. Now since that day I am having the following issues
1. When rev my bike and then let go of the throttle I am getting this really annoying noise from the bike. The noise is difficult to describe. This noise is most audible at night when I drive my bike on empty roads.
My hypothesis: I feel that as I let go of the throttle after reving up the engine the vibrations in the bike increase momentarily and at this point I hear that noise. The noise produced is like when some keys in a key chain vibrate. I also feel that the noise is coming from the front end of the bike.
2. When I drive my bike with a pillion up a steep sloop I have engine knocking sound even in first gear!!
My hypothesis: None
3. The maximum speed attained by my bike so far is only 105kmph. The bike just refuses to go over 105kmph and at that speed the vibrates are felt on the foot pegs too.
My hypothesis: Maximun speed of stock apache RTR 160 is 105kmph.
Can anyone help me with my troubles. I really love the feel and handling of this bike. I am planning to take my bike to a private mechanic in a few days. Can any one suggest me a good mechanic in Pune. I am from Hinjewadi. Someone suggested me a mechanic in Shivaji Nagar but that guy is a Pulsar mechanic. Also how much will a full engine service cost from a private mechanic?

Re: RTR Engine Mod
I think you have not gone through the last few pages of that thread, that is where Divya sharan is pointing at. Please go through the last few pages to see the horror side of RC some of the members here had to undergo withOriginally posted by susheelkumarWas that a joke oriented reply...I mean is there any wrong info I posted?
The first post regarding race concepts where I suggest to have a look at it.
Its most reliable after market work, thanks to joel.
Then regarding K&N air filter, yes I still stand by it because I have read the same in one of the bike portals where they do specify that the peformance gain or whatsover u call that by using K&N is almost negligible. Moreover its not good for engines in long run. By issues doesnt mean it will happen to then and there. If lucky it will run like normal for 20k or more but in the long run its never good.Fun Starts at Redline!!!

Either you work for Race Concepts, or you don't want to open your eyes.
I can't say anything to you in that case mate. All the best with RC products in case you go for them/have them already.
Plonk the kits and talk to me after completing 5-7k kms.

Again, the same jist as the above reply. K&N/UNI/Simota increases the 'dust' flow in the engine due to bigger pores. Yes, it won't harm the engine then and there, but gradually. Also, performance gains on our puny mopeds are mathematically close to ZERO!Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: RTR Engine Mod
Seriously I didnt know many issues were there or not with RC products. I have seen my friends using them & still they are using.Originally posted by Divya Sharan View PostReplies in bold. Take it or leave it!
By the way I have just shared what I have heard based on my experience.
BTW pls dont say I work for any one dude. I hate fanboyism so no way i will do that.
And also FYI my bike is pure stock. Please dont guess out without knowing me personally.
Anyway fine leave it. I dont like arguing too much dude.
[EDIT]
Anyway thanks for the link. As mentioned by road_ripper, the last few pages shows a lot different story. Seriously i didnt knew this. Infact I didnt go searching more on this as I said I have no plans to because I like sticking with my stocks. Its not that I didnt want to open my eyes. Anyway my eyes are open to this new flips side of this plug-n-play stuff
Btw sorry if I replied rude. Actually felt bad when you pointed out like things which i didnt mean to.
Also as a part of bikehood we are meant to help & correct each other..Cheers!! bro..

Re: RTR Engine Mod
Check the words you type before typing. . . No worries if you have gone through it, good now. . . Understand the basic concept of Xbhp, everyone here are there to help each other and not to mock and make fun of others, of course we might make fun but not all the time and with all. . . No worries if the post is there, no one is going to reply your's as you have said you already deleted them. . . Chill and continue. . .Originally posted by susheelkumar View PostDude reply after seeing my subsequent replies. Come on dude!!..I meant if already a person has replied to a query, then there is no need of the same point beings said again, I mean no need of chorus.Originally posted by Rakesh Rok View PostCheck the words you type before typing. . . If the reply is different from the already existing replies then only its good for all to be posted.
Otherwise that doesnt help xbhp rather than too much OT topics & unwanted repeats and increasing page numbers.
So as you said "Check the words you type before typing" applies to all..
Sorry if I hurted you.
