@geek_cant_drive let me try to answer your questions .
are you are having trouble finding neutral at stopping and gear goes to second or first but not in neutral ? . since your bike is new gears will smoothen out after first service . you may also take time to adjust to a geared vehicle after a scooty .
Normal unleaded fuel works just fine .
your bike must be in running in period so dont ride full throttle . ride at around 50 in top gear though shorts duration higher speeds can be done but not for long .try to vary the Rpms in all gears and dont ride at a constant RPM ,keep going up and down till first service at 500 Kms .
and yeah congrats on your purchase .

Now I got few questions too:- Gears are giving me real hard time. They did smooth a bit and neutral is “discoverable”, but still they jump a lot. Any chance that I’ll end up damaging something inside the engine with this problem?
- What kind of petrol will suite the best for this motorcycle?
- What are the optimum speed and RPM to ride this motorcycle?
Congratulations to your purchase and welcome to the thread.
1. The RTR has a little notchy gearbox(read hard, not smooth,) that tends to get "in between"(not slotting in the gear when you tap the shifter).
To avoid this simply give a bike little revs before you tap the the lever for a down change, by keeping the clutch lever pressed, you have to make habit of it, this will eliminate all he hard shifts plus the big "clonk" noice you hear in the downchange.
The upshifts are not an issue but will give you a technoque to smoothen them out too but after your running in, (the first 1000kms are called running in where you keep you bike below 4500RPM) cuz too much things at the same will confuse you.
2. Simple unleaded petrol is best for the bike, dont go for the premium petrol.
3. Drive the bike at below 4500 RPM for the first 1000 kms, dont rev it, gradually take it there.Last edited by rennycornelius; 03-31-2010, 10:53 AM.The Magician"

As renny has already mentioned the RTRs have a notchy gearbox and as Puneet has mentioned it gets better as you use it. Since it is your first geared two wheeler it might take some time to get adjusted to it. I got a RTR 180 recently and even after the first service I was facing the same problems as you were. I took it back to the SVC guys and they kept on telling it was a loose clutch and kept tightening the clutch without even riding the bike to check what I was complaining about. The third time this happened I asked them to ride the bike first, they then agreed there was a problem, took out the clutch assembly and adjusted some things (they weren't willing to share what they did) and its a lot better now, though it hits a false neutral once in a while the problem of slipping from higher to lower gear is not there.Originally posted by geek_cant_drive View PostMost motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

Exactly Puneet, I am having trouble finding neutral at stopping. Seems like a little bit of practice will do the trick.Originally posted by Puneet1 View Post@geek_cant_drive let me try to answer your questions .

Renny, I hear this big "clonk" noise when I stop the engine. Similar to the the noise when up shifting gear with out full clutch. Any hint?Originally posted by rennycornelius View Post

Guys, what's the maintenance cost like?
One more thing, I got this rubber grips on the handle bar (only accessory not from factory), will it by any chance prevent clutch to be push at its optimum level? I pull it up to the end and engine is not complaining either.

That's the sounds of the mixture of valves and clutch. Normal.

Nothing other than changing the oil, my experience from the past 9000KMS.

Though it's a personal choice, but RTR has already fat handle grips compared to the other bikes, adding the extra grip will make the matters worst and it looks bad too.The Magician"

I'll be going to try Shell Advance VSX 4 (10W40) semi-synthetic oil for my RTR. Will update after some 500 odd kms...
Moreover, yesterday night, suddenly my bike's chain cover got broken, from the two points where it is fixed to swingarm. Still to figure-out probable reasons for it
Yes....
I'm still Alive...

I figured that out after my first service. Its not in my nature to act tough so instead what I always do is chat up with the mechanic and put some technical questions with the right jargon and that seems to work! Maybe he thinks this guy knows something so won't fool around.Originally posted by geek_cant_drive View PostRags, TVS SVC takes customer for granted. 7+ years experience
