  • Guys a peculiar issue with the bike, at some times on idling the revs start climbing & go as high 2-2.5 rpm.
This is not frequent but has happened 5-6 times so far, I tried adjusting the idling screw which does a temporary job.
The bike runs absolutely fine otherwise.

    Please guide.

I had same problem. mechanic said, they need to adjust tappets after which it will be fine. And indeed he was right.

The other scenario of this problem was bringing the bike standstill after pushing it to high RPMs for long period (Say 15 mins).

Thats coz of the mixture leaning out severely. Normally would happen under cold conditions or even after hard riding. Check if the carb is properly mounted on teh intake manifold and also check is the airbox pipe is properly secured.
Once you make the mixture richer, you can avoid a lot of these things. Anyways it does noy cause any hard.
Also check if this is happening when the handle bar is turned to a particular direction only or even otherwise. Could be a lag by the choke cable and engaging the choke a bit.

          Can you elaborate?

Joel I checked choke lever & also blipped throttle to check if it stuck & none of that was the reason. Happened mostly while in traffic riding at lower gears(this happens in neutral though), never at cold start

          • It even sounds like a vapour lock. But nothing to be worried about anyways.

            • If i ride at 90-95 kmph for continuous 5 minutes and then stop the bike, the idling speed was set to 2500 rpm from usual 1200 rpm. Weired na!
Next time when i start the bike, it was all fine but it was very annoying every time i rode hard.

              • @joel: Wouldnt vapour lock cause the bike to halt?

Beside does RTR has some kind of rev control in the CDI which makes such changes even in idle?

                • @burnrubbernotursoul : it is really a pity ! but you are dealing with a bike.consider the reality about purchasing a "new" car in kerala !
always insist on checking your car/bike thoroughly before delivery !.
and in your case ,cant you travel to Ernakulam and collect RTR-Fi from "cochin motors" near vyttila?they are the largest distributor of TVS.I had my suzuki fiero selected and checked from their depot in Edapally back in 2002.was satisfied with their service.
Trivendrum is neglected by many dealers.even ,I heard from my cousin that only 3 or 4 shops for computers(big shops) that too franchise or branch exists in trivendrum albeit it being kerala's capital.thats pathetic.

first ,there is popular hyundai -Hyundai dealer in trivendrum giving a refurbished car to the customer.then ,in cochin - the honda dealer -patel cars(peninsular honda) too gave a car with repainted doors etc!

considering this ,you must search for a good dealer before committing a purchase. here in Muvattupuzha(kochin) ,many(infacy many many) goes to Coimbatore city for purchase of cars ,motorcycles rather than going to ernakulam dealers.this is a fact.not "generalizing" -but a fact - for better offers and service it is better you get your vehicle from some other state esp for cars.many relatives had their cars either TN registered or KA,MH,GA registered !and that too brand new.tn-37/38 and ka-19/20 is soo common.guess why? our(kerala) dealerships are not up to the standards.

and in your case - dear bro - travel northward upto kollam or kottayam to get the bike!.finish your running-in in free service done by better dealerships there.

I used the thread to show some light on this pathetic situation in kerala.many so called "reliable" dealers like indus ,popular have got these "smartie" floor managers who want to dump a crappy stuff as brand new to the unsuspecting client .
No- I cannot show proofs.the incidents I mentioned all are covered by T-BHp,digit forum and newspapers except manorama .

A complete vapour lock could make the engine shut. But again, a mild lock can somewhat make the engine too lean and increase the rpms during idle.
RTR CDI has no rev-limiter and can theoritically rev an engine to 13000+ rpm (My fiero once hit 13200rpm on the digital tacho without load - RTR CDI set-up and my RTR Group B set-up hit a max of 12700 on the same tacho).
The ignition is kept pretty much advance at low revs to help improve low end torque. So you will never get any idle issues coz of the CDI.

                    • Actually what I meant was that is it smart enough to change revs based on the input paramteres that the CDI has like an FI?

There is a TPS switch which sends signals to the CDI to govern the ignition. So depending on the throttle position the CDI will advance or retard the ignition. yes its smart enough and the smartest CDI in business.

                        • Thats interesting to know

Btw would it still change revs when the throttle is at idle based on other inputs like lean\rich mixture?

Thats fueling control at idle. CDI does nothing, rpms dont vary electronically. So in this case, your carb/airbox/tank vapour lock etc will come into picture.
The CDI will never control the fueling part, only the ignition. Fueling is mechanically controlled, so cannot vary dynamically if its set to a particular rpm.

Take my word, the service centre fellows will have no clue about it.
