They say that the spares for FI including harness was easily available upto 2013 and now it has become quite tough to get them. What should I do now? :| Quite frustrated.

Is there any major difference in the wiring harnesses of FI and carburetor 220?Originally posted by Praful View Post

Re: Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi
It is is 120/80 but the profile is lesser than stock! I'm also jumping between stock or Vyde... both I haven't used in years !! :/Originally posted by forcooler View PostLol..i might take you up on that idea once I recover from this ride. Didn't know that about the Ceat, i thought 120/80 would be the same. Think I should go for vyde? or stock? not much touring happening for the next year though(I think :P)
Not necessarily, could just be worn rings.

I can almost guarantee that your bike has suffered a partial seizure. When you get the engine opened, check for scuff marks in the bore.Originally posted by forcooler View PostAbout Consumption lets say from full to the lower mark on the oil indicator window in about 2000 kms of highway running.
It means bore+piston replacement and also valve lapping. Should cost ~6K total.

PS: the ceat vertigo is partially to blame for the low mileage. It's a lower than stock Dia (despite the 120/80 size) so the bike runs shorter geared.

BTW, you mentioned your's is a 2007 model, well I can assure you that the harness that came on that model was absolutely horrible. I know coz mine is a 2007 too, I replaced my harness in 2011 and after that all my electrical issues have been sorted out completely.
Well in the hills you usually get more because overall speed is lower, unless you're in Rossi mode revving away to glory.
I am surprised that you have so much variation in fuel efficiency !!
How much does it consume? And if it was busted rings then you would have got less mileage on the hills too.
BTW, what tyres are you running ? I need to "let go" of my Sirac after all these years...
I had to let of my Sirac last year :-/ . Currently running Ceat Vertigo Sport, they're done too actually. Not sure what to try next.
About Consumption lets say from full to the lower mark on the oil indicator window in about 2000 kms of highway running.
If not the rings then I'm completely stumped. The variation in FE there even on the plains but not so pronounced(riding style consistent). Any wild ideas?

Can you guys please confirm me that, is it really difficult to get P220FI's spare parts?
Can I get the harness from somewhere else?
What else could be the problem with my bike?

Now something relevant to the FE issue. In the mountains where I "should've gotten worse mileage, I got great mileage 34-35. However on the highway it was still abysmally low dropping to 23 even on one tank. I think it was the difference in temperatures of the conditions that affected the FE. But then if that's the case, does it indicate a busted piston ring or something of the sort? The bike has been consuming oil also lately although there is no grey smoke etc from the exhaust.
Will check spark plugs tomo morning.

Re: Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi
Hi there,
I'm following this thread from past few weeks as I own a P220fi(November 2007). My issue was similar to that of forcooler's. The projector went OFF, speedometer stopped working and after a few days the bike refused to start.
It all started when the municipality guys selectively took my bike from a huge herd of parked bikes from a No-Parking zone. I don't know how they handled the bike or what have they done to it, I got it back in mere 20 mins, but the damage was already done.
I was broke, so thought to take the bike to service on next salary (which was indeed a mistake). But, before the salary could arrive, on one Sunday eve, it refused to start, it wasn't even making any sounds on pressing the ignition. I tried shaking the wiring with no success, then somehow took it to nearest mechanic and asked him to check the wiring. He started doing something weird with the wiring and checked the relay as well. He concluded that the mistake is in the relay and it needs to be replaced. He then went to a couple of Bajaj service stations and came back saying that P220fi's parts are rare to get and the service stations don't have them in stock. I pushed the bike back to my place and then went to the nearest Bajaj service station and asked them for relay problem, the guy there bluntly replied "Boss! agar relay ka problem hai to mai karwa dunga, but aur koi problem hai to mai help nahi kar paunga. Mere paas pehle se 2 P220fi khadi hui hain 2 mahine se. Maine lena hi bannd kar diya hai FI."(Boss! if the issue is with 'relay', I'll replace it. But, if the issue is with anything else, I won't be able to help you out. I've already got a couple of P220fi standing in my yard with some or the other issues. I've stopped taking FI for service.).
This was really disappointing for me, but being helpless, I took the bike to them next morning and asked them to call me by noon and let me know whatever is the problem. They called me in the evening and told me that they've replaced the starter relay and the bike has started to take the ignition, projector bulb was fused so they've replaced it as well. Then they told me that the harness is damaged and needs to be replaced, but it is quite hard to get. They've contacted there suppliers for the harness but the harness is not available with them and the probability of getting it in near future is very low. In the evening, I went there to get the bike, it started smoothly on the very first ignition attempt. I was so cherished with its sound. But, then to my surprise, the bike could only take the ignition on Neutral, which was a complete reciprocal of what used to happen before, i.e. the bike used to take the ignition only on gears and did not use to respond while on neutral. Anyways, I asked them to order the harness ASAP and let me know when it comes. While I was about to leave the service station, I came across a new issue. The bike may or may not take the ignition on first attempt and may require several attempts to get started. I called the service guy and told him the issue, he said the same thing again, "Sir, harness is the issue".
I came back and called them on there phone for next whole week, but the harness never came.
After a few days, I located a renowned service station(a startup) and went there and told them about the issue and about the loose fairing's horrible sound. He assured me that he'll do everything he could to get the issue resolved. I had heard a very positive feedback of that center and thus I gave them the bike. The next day he called me and told me about the same thing, "The Harness Issue", or if that is not the issue, there is something wrong with the sensors. I was totally annoyed, but then he told me that the fairing and speedometer is fixed which gave me a sigh of relief. Then he told me that the Bajaj guys have somehow replaced your starter relay with that of Pulsar150's relay, which also could be the issue of this problem.
He assured me that he'll get the harness arranged from somewhere. I don't know when will he do that.
Can you guys please confirm me that, is it really difficult to get P220FI's spare parts?

Re: Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi
The Fi manages M'La without a hitch, don't get stuck in muddy inclines there would be enough power to push through those, you'd need to get down and push yourself.Originally posted by forcooler View PostLol no not really.90-105 these days infact.Checked plugs, they were black so then Got the CO checked, man the guy at the svc centre tried so hard to convince me not to get it checked.Co was on the higher side 3.75ish..readjusted to 2.75.Will need to ride for a bit to see improvement.

Although, I wouldn't do M'La on a 220 again. Its really not worth except the fact that you get claim that you've 'done' M'La. Years ago I was more foolish that I was today, so I did it anyways. But I hear conditions are better now, so maybe you could give it a shot.

With that kind of mileage you should be happy with a D390 :P
Yes, the svc centers use the same machine for tuning Dukes.

Do you r@pe the bike while touring ?Originally posted by forcooler View PostThe Battery, starter relay, starter motor was replaced. After that everything seems normal.
The FE story has been similar for me as well since the beginning. For me it was around 32-24 when new.On highway while touring it would drop to 29 a few times. These days I get somewhere between 23-26.I'll get the Spark plugs CO checked.I wonder if the svc centres have working CO machines these days.

What did you do to resolve the electrical issues ?
My bike was never a fuel efficient Fi, even when it was new I would get between 32-36, when I moved over to the Sirac it improved a little bit from 33-39. I haven't really bothered to check in last couple of months
, but Its somewhere in the low 30's because I get about 480-530kms to a tankful.
Pulling in the clutch will give a free rolling movement on any bike because once the gears are engaged engine braking will kick in. Transmission issues show in a different way, sounds to me like you have loose/dry chain.
But 26 is very low for a 220, possibly get you CO tuning done. Open up the plugs and check the color first before doing the tuning, I am guessing you're running really rich.
