With limited options currently, going back to stock is the best option. But if you're OK to spend some Gandhi's, for the rear you can get the Michelin Pilot Radial 140/70.

Just off road then the Ceat's are better. But I think the MRFs are better on tarmac.

Its a 220, the handling will feel cycle like but do check the condition of the cone set, replace it if not done for a while now. Similarly for the front suspension , the oil hasn't been changed for a long time / 10K get that replaced too. You can add extra oil to stiffen up the front, that will improve handling around corners but will be a bit not so comfy off-the-road. The last weak link is the rear suspension, if you haven't changed it in the last 3-4 years or 60-70K kms, get it replaced.

Only these three components along with tyres affect handling. Can't change the frame, its crappy anyways.

PS: what's the wifey's opinion about the 390's comfort?
Thanks for the pointers. Will get the cone set replaced - I am not sure if I have ever got it replaced! I am also holding onto a Sirac (original one) and that will do duty this year in Ladakh (A friend will be riding the 220)
KTM 390 and wifey - don't mix well She was so irritated that she has opted for the office cab even though we go to the same office complex!

Whoa, only 20K ... That's awesome! Your bike is still new!

Any pointers as to what should I ask the service center to check ?

Edit: Front tyre - between the Ceat Zoom and MRF Zapper - any thoughts on which would perform better off-road.

the new sirac street they sell isnt nearly the same. Im also thinking of change my front zappers(fz16 tyres) as well coz these days I tour a lot more than visit lavasa n the likes for cornering etc, I would go for stability over agility. With that perspective is there are tyre I can go for which gives me a bit of both,or should i go back to stock?
It has been discussed few pages back .
If I remember correctly its CEAT Vertigo sport for rear (on/off road ) and zapper vyde (on road ).
Michelin and continental are crappy .

^^Whoa wish i were writing that post about the speed triple :P. Anyway the idle speed sensor could be an issue(i hope we have one in our bike). In any case, I'll try and visit a svc center next week and sort out the issue.Hopefully the pressing issue will be fixed. thanks for all the help.I'll update the thread with the solution.

Another thing that came to my mind related to your throttling up/down question. So when I'm rolling in traffic with zero throttle and the bike is coasting(<20kmph),sometimes it feels like the fuel has shut off till I open the throttle again.I didnt much of it coz I think its been happening for quite some time and doesn't really affect me much.Does this help tho?
Try cleaning the fuel lines and changing fuel filter plus revving till redline few times .
If there is an fuel supply problem it may get vanished

And I will try riding at the same speed and comment .
Any bike will be behave the same at zero throttle I suppose and if you are in higher gear at such low speeds you should give generous throttle .
Try 20kmph in second gear and if there is no shutting off problems then its fine

Am now suffering from a new starting problem .
After changing the disk caliper at an non pbk outlet they have fiddled with the wiring :banghead:

Now if the bike bike is turned from end to end then the wires get loose and in order to crank I must hold the wire and adjust to different position to get in contact .
Its a bunch of wires I don't know which has lost contact .
Plus brake pads are making squeaking noises due to poor installation

Hi all, I own a 2003 Triumph Speed Triple 955i. It was recently dropped on its left side -- going 20 mph) and then slow, i.e. for a turn, the engine starts to sputter and eventually stalls. Once this sputtering starts, pulling in the clutch and/or rolling on throttle has no effect on engine rpm...

The last post states that it had some thing to do with idle speed sensor .Though it may not be the issue for you the symptoms he is quoting is exactly what you are facing

^^ Lol it is isn't it.By left side i mean the battery covering panel.

Interestingly, yesterday I put the bike on mainstand and then pressed the panel with my fingers to find the "spot" which causes the problem. So as it turn out, when I hold the top left part of the panel, the part which covers the relay, the problem occurs and if I hold it for long enough the engine shuts off.

Yeah I cant help but chuckle about the pressing left side issue every time it happens.Over the years, these small niggles have just become a part of the bikes character.

I think the leaning and the pressing issue are related issues.
It happens when throttling up as well and as I said in my reply to giftonsamuel the same feel comes even when I'm riding straight and press the left side.

I must mention here that if the bike is still rolling and i let go of the left side/straighten the bike continues to run fine i.e I don't have to restart.
What part of the bike do you press on the left side and how exactly do you 'press' it ?

    This issue is getting interesting

Left side contains battery plus starter relay which hangs out may be a loose contact in wiring .
Remove the side cover and check .
(Our bike has superpowers to relay which cranks even after key is removed )

Browsing through other threads so i just thought I'll mention a couple a problems I'm facing here(Aug 2007 220fi 75k old).If nothing a solution will at least add to the list of known problems. :P

So when I start my bike in the morning/after a gap of say 3-4hours,it starts fine i.e. idles, but when i start accelerating(even smoothly) the engine acts if its not getting enough fuel(dhuk-dhuk @4k+rpm) for maybe a couple of kms.

Another problem,if i press the left side of my bike with my thigh or if I lean left, the fuel supply cuts off?Is it a short or is a fuel line getting blocked. Any idea why that could be?

Waise what are the symptoms of a dying fuel pump? And has anyone done a electrical/electronic system overhaul what all does it include?
The not getting enough fuel issue sounds like a fuel pump issue, but if it vanished after a bit of running then its more of a 'warming' up issue. Do you let the bike warm up a bit by letting it sit in idle for a minute or two ? That's what I usually do, switch on the bike and then put on my helmet, gloves, etc. Giving the bike enough time to warm up. When was the last time you replaced your fuel filter ?

This pressing the left side issue is weird, never heard of it .

But if its cutting off during leaning then in all probability its an issue with the roll-over sensor. But let me ask you this, do you throttle down when you get into a lean and then the engine cuts off ? Or does this cut-off happen when you are leaning and throttling up as well ?
