  • Mate,

torque, top speed and refining are all imp..but what matters the most is the confidence a ride infuses in its biker.

Sorry to have to say this but 220 cornering abilities scare me at speed, please don't take this as an offense.

Sit on the R15 and take it for a ride, good 20kms, run it though the city and see what comfort levels you get.

Although coming from 220 you will fee low end torque is less, but riding in proper gears counters that, keep it between 4k-5k and it should be good.

Besides that you will definitely enjoy the number of heads you will turn on the roads.

    cheers
    Suhail

regarding top speed ..i took it to 141kmph on the speedo. sixth gear over 9k RMP(dont know the exact reading).

          no comments on the P220

          • ok sudipta here u go ,
M familiar with both the bikes , will give u my honest unbiased view.

            Handling and Tires
R15 no doubt takes the prize here , its a different world totally .
220 is good compared to ur older gen pulsars in handling , but no where close to being really acceptable levels.

            so R15 HERE

            poWER
220 No doubt is the winner here , its got torque spread out evenly throughout the range , it allows u mistakes while riding and still get back on power.
can cruise at 100 all day long with little crying .
But has distinct vibes after 95kmph ,fairiing rattling and the engine growl .
it definitely has more torque and can manage in all terrains with ease (hills etc etc)

            R15
U have to get to right all the time , and be spot on.
The key to being fast/quick in r15 is ur skills , its the shifting @ right rpm which is a make or break story , one mistake or one mis shift and your history , u have to keep the bike in the right rpm range throughout to be ahead or enjoy the power.
But when doing a 100 or 110 it can do it all day long with no complaints at all, the engine makes minimum noise and the exhaust is hardly audible , its that quiet.and no vibes on fairing or handle.mirrors are rock solid.
            Gearbox-the best u can get.
The R15 is not fun to ride in the city.
One bad thing on the R15 , ur doing 100(6th gr) n u find a road hump , u ll need 2 come down to 1st n pull up , else u ll struggle.the bike doesn have enough juice to pull from 2nd like 180/rtr/200/any bike in the same league. The gearing is like that.

            Braking- R15 By miles.
            220-Good no doubt.

            Lights-220 anyday
            R15-They are a joke.

            Reliabilty--YZF-Reliable-15
220-Na , Doesn give u a sound sleep.ur always scared what new issues u ll face.

The 220 actually makes more power in reality , but the r15 makes less power but itlises it to the fullest with something as AeroDynamics .
Although the R15 is 120kgs , its rock stable in heavy crosswinds , Take my word on this. i was surprised to the core on this.
N yeah , the R15 can go offroading , but u ll need to be a liitle careful about the skirt , although its strong.
The tires ll hold in dry N total rain (ive doin 130 in the rain ) its that confidence giving .
but a liitle bit of sand or slush/gravel , ur gone(free drifting) , its treads are not meant for slush at all.
tHE r15 LOSES power like Crazy with a pillion... can feel it cry....
with 220 it doesn matter if ur doubles or triplz , all it knows is pull pull n pull.
pulsar rocks in that.(PS : I still miss my pulsar :-D)

So think about it , u wanna know anything specific , go ahead ask up , will let u know.
            Cheers
            Santa

How were you able to go that high? I got at 137 kmph... Biker's position... On a slope. What I observed was my bike refused to produce more than 9000 rpms in the 6 th gear (Reminded me of Balaam's ass) except on the slope. So, on level road, she was doing 130 kmph only.

Is it normal for an R15?

YAMAHA SS guy assured me that bike goes as high as 145 kmph & he himself had done it. But I can't see a way of doing it (unless on slope).

Is there a setting or something, that restricts her to 9000 RPMs-6th gear at full acc?
                And God said, "Let there be light" and there was HID Kit. And God saw that the light was good;

yup in 1st 2 tries i culd manage 138kmph but in the 3rd try with perfect gear shift i was able to manage 142kmph..it also depends on how much the rider weighs...n what i found is mistakes in gear shift is indespensible..so with proper gear shift u can surely knock 140+...njoy ur ride...

100 km/hr?????????????my goodness..most of the time em above 100....but that's obviously keeping the norms and respecting the others on the road....man it crosses 100 very easily.....u will feel its 50kmph but actually its 110kmph.....in all the aspects its better to pulsar 220...handling....speed...but its only 2secs slower in acceleration than the pulsar...today i touched 132kmph....and it could have gone more than that.
