bro about engine oil if i change to moto 4 gold 20w50 , will my warranty be void ? , i am planning to change after break in (2000 kms as per manual ) , i am runing on bajaj oil since first service ,now i have clocked 945 kms .will bajaj accept ? i know here they will make excuses .if there will be warranty even after an other oil change i can correct them.gear shift is little better as i went to local mechanic , but not great as earlier .btw i correct myself they did not put any addictives in oil , they did engine flushing , ya its standard bajaj oil 1000 series something.

after 10k kms i am planning to change to motul 7100 20w50 , heard lot of good things about it .
To be honest the bajaj people don't say anything to me for the engine oil and more over I don't loose the warranty. As from day one I have been using this engine oil and more over if ride it carefully there won't be a single chance to claim the warranty and also they hardly give you warranty as if they have to give it from there house when we ask for one. It is with every company I know but heard good things from hero stable they are very particular of giving warranty. More over bajaj engine oil is the worst oil I have ever known. But buddy I know one thumb rule what the company says for the grade in don't change it. If they have said 20 w 50 I will put that but not there's.

See, the thing about Motor/Gear oil in new bikes is that - "The rough the engine runs in beginning for first 1,000kms, the better seating you get for piston rings and other parts. However, this is only valid till a specific limit, after which its always good to go for smoother and more refined engine oil for prolonged engine life.

Afaik, Mineral oil is best for first 1,000kms with 2-3 drains in this interval with first one at <150kms and 2nd one at 500-600kms followed by another drain after 1,000-1200kms.
After running 1500-2000kms,it's best to switch to semisynthetic/hybrid Motul 15W50 engine oil for this engine.
Trust me, there's nothing better than Motul 15w50 Hybrid for Bajaj Pulsar engines. However, it's best to use after 2000km.

As far as the Fully Synthetic oil is concerned, those are for high displacement/RPM bike with over 350-400cc of displacement or 9000+rpms.
I have seen many complaints of oil leakage from top of the pistons and gearbox crevices after using fully synthetic oils.

I am going to use the crap mineral oil of Bajaj till 1500kms,after which I will drain it for Motul 15w50 hybrid. I usually ride my bike a bit rough and highs lows, to make sure engine break-in happens earlier....so I can use non stock oil asap.

Also, please lubricate and clean the chain frequently because the bikes chain accumulates lots of dust to its open nature.

          • Bajaj Avenger 220 Gold ownership.

As a mechanical engineer, I know that No bike is perfect when it leaves the assembly line. Even best products needs some tuning and tweaks.
This is because factory daily production schedule is very tight and time required to fine tuning is more than the assembly of complete system. These small tweaks are economical to be sorted out in service stations rather than assembly line.

Many bikers have complaints about their bikes but even small tuning is enough to rectify their problems. Mechanic is not always required and even I hate mechanics because of many reasons.
I am starting this thread to document my experience and tweaks in my bike so that other users can have information and can give their feedback in case.
I own Bajaj Avenger 220 Gold purchased on 1st Dec 2016 in mumbai.

            2) Bumpy Rear Ride
            3) Alloy wheels with tubeless Tyres required

            Problems Found:
            1) Headlight focus was inclined towards left
            2) Fuel guage not accurate or float misplaced
            3) Very Bumpy ride
            4) Gear Shifting to 1st gear was very loud
            5) Idle speed very high, still engine would stall in between rides
            6) Engine heating

            Changes I made after purchase:
            1) I thought that something was missing in bike which is required to give bike its full appearance. Then i found that saree gaurd was all black and it should be chrome plated which will complete all chrome theme of the bike.
I searched local shops and ordered chrome saree guard with footrest.
Installed with some hassle because I found that earlier Avenger model has large dia bolt and new avengers come with small dia one! Added some washers and here we go!

              Mod-2
              Rear Seat Modified:
Rear seat was very narrow and not comfortable at all. I decided to modify it from local seat trader. Added cushioning and new seat cover keeping original seat as it is under it.
Now seat is very comfortable and pillion rider is happier.

              Mod 3:
              Adjusted Headlight Focus-

The focus was tilted towards left. Tried adjusting screws on headlight but I found whole Headlight assembly was slightly offset to left.
I dismantled whole assembly and adjusted Headlight, now its perfect!

              • Re: Bajaj Avenger - Shoulder pain problem

                Hello everyone.
I recently bought Avenger Street 150 on 12 December 2016. Before it, I was riding TVS Scooty Pep.
During the test ride it felt amazingly smooth and comfortable to ride, so booked it straight away. Some bikes on my list were-
                1. Honda Cb Hornet ( looked very big on me and the price too was a bit on the higher side of my budget)
                2. Yamaha SZ RR V2 ( A damn good bike but I dont know why I cancelled it)
                3. Bajaj V ( liked everything about it except the pillion seat which was bit too flat)

As you all can see, the main preferences for me were good power, good mileage and proper pillion comfort and nice seating posture.

The Avenger 150 has fulfilled all my needs so I am happy to buy it.

But from the past week, I am feeling neck and shoulder pain which is getting worse every day. I think its the seating posture which is creating the main problem.
And by the way, my height is 5.5 inch.

I am damn worried that this is not the pain which will go away with some time.
Kindly help me with this. Is there any mod I can do to save my neck and shoulders from the pain? Is anyone else going or gone through this?

                  Congratulations on your purchase.
Ideally Avenger is more comfortable than others, however this takes a while to get accustomed to the seating posture.

                    Hello Motorheads,
As I posted earlier, I bought a Street 220 a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to ask the fellow owners if these problems are normal in a new avenger street 220:
                    1. The front suspension makes a 'Hiss' sound when depressed. (Not while riding, but while parking suddenly pressing the front brake makes it go hisssss)
                    2. At 5th gear around 50kmph the engine knocks like hell. Have to come down to 4th gear.
                    3. Mileage keeps changing from 35 to 40.
                    4. Any pointers for first service?

                    Thanks in advance.

P.S. How to check coolant level?

                      Starters for first service

                      1) Dont allow them to put any addictives in tank or engine oil (they mess up everything)
2)try to use any other brand of engine oil if they allow.(bajaj oil screws big time) messed up my gear shifter (was butter smooth before )
3)check for any scratch or dents and make them note on job sheet.(they messed up mine and another avenger guy number plate all numbers worn out.
3)they tighten all parts of bike , so do check if they tight up brake or clutch lever too much , many guys including me came next day after service complaining brake and lever is too tight.

do let us know how your service went. cheers and congrats on your new bike

                        Congrats for your Avenger!
                        1) Hiss sound is from rubber covers on front fork, its normal and no fault.Air trapped inside that rubber makes noise when pressed.
                        2) 5th Gear is required above 55kmph, below that you must use 4th gear, its normal again.
3)Mileage changes depending upon driving conditions, its normal.

Pain is because of new riding position and it will take some days to get used to.
Immediately check tyre pressure in both wheels. Keep 25 psi in rear and 21 psi in front tyre, as recommended by Bajaj.

There is no coolant in Avenger. Its oil cooled, check oil level in Engine through transparent glass located on right side of engine near foot rest.

Ideally Avenger is more comfortable than others, however this takes a while to get accustomed to the seating posture.
Lets see after 30-40 days. I hope it gets better as everything in this machine is superbly value for money

If you don't want to take any risks with your bike, I recommended not exceeding the speeds from 60 for the the next 1k kms as well as you have already done 1k now. If you notice the manual carefully, it has speed limits for every gear. Basically what that mean is you should not go past 3/4 of the throttle in any gear. If Avenger had a tachometer then it would have been pretty easy for us to stay below the 4k rpm to follow the manual. But right now I would suggest not to over rev the engine in any gear till 2k kms.
