Re: MotoGP 2014 Season - Updates
What an epic battle for podium btw Jorge Lorenzo and in the final laps of Mugello Circuit Motogp...just made my Sunday Awesome... The race came alive in the last 5 laps where the battle for the 1st position begun and heck of a scene when both the riders were passing each other on almost every corner.

Re: MotoGP 2014 Season - Updates
hopefully this is the comeback of lorenzo to form that was finally needed..
he doesnt get entangled into battles so often (premier class in general doesnt regularly have battles), but when he does (with his bike working for him, as today, as any rider really needs to continue battling till the end) he puts on some of the most awe inspiring overtakes through narrowest of the gaps as he did today a few times...not to forget his late late braking today reminding of motegi 2013...it was so edgy between 99 and 93 today, so many times they got too close and nearly touched each other...brilliant by both of them, a battle between them that was much like silverstone 2013 except there it had gone on to the last lap's last corners and the winner was lorenzo...
marquez had the upper hand on slipstream and that honda power on the straights where he overtook lorenzo many times, but in the last lap (as opposed to previous laps) he did well holding on to it by narrowly blocking lorenzo at turn 1 forcing him (lorenzo) to brake hard mid corner and lose some speed thus forming a gap from him which was enough to hold him back all that lap..
hopefully this is the comeback of lorenzo that was much needed and while the championship is gone anyway most likely, here's hoping there's many more of these epic 99 vs 93 battles, perhaps at times 46 and 26 involved too...
brilliant moto3 race as always.

Great respect for each others.Yeah, the race was boring at the beginning untill in the midlle Ped did some overtakes to gain position and then the last 5 laps between JL and MM reminded me of the season opener between VR & MM. Why isn't VR able to use the Yamaha as JL does...would really love to win some races.Originally posted by Rajat Bhanti View PostWhat an epic battle for podium btw Jorge Lorenzo and in the final laps of Mugello Circuit Motogp...just made my Sunday Awesome... Re: MotoGP 2014 Season - Updates
Great battle b/w Marc and Lorenzo! Glad to see Lorenzo back in fighting form.
But the man of the hour is without question Marc. I think we are privileged to watch the making of potentially the greatest rider of all time.
Rossi had predicted this back when Marquez was testing the MotoGP bikes for the first time. I remember thinking that that's very high praise for a rider who's only just arrived in MotoGP. Clearly, it takes one to know one.

Re: MotoGP 2014 Season - Updates
Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez gave some serious lap times in the final laps...special Marc Marquez...
One thing I didn't understood in this race...during the last 5 laps, when both of these riders were in the fastest stretch of the whole circuit...Marc was every time overtaking the Lorenzo in that stretch very easily.Last edited by Rajat Bhanti; 06-02-2014, 03:29 AM.

Re: MotoGP 2014 Season - Updates
Iannone needs a better Ducati, or a better bike -- I maintain that he would perform better than Bautista, Bradl or Espargaro if he could ride their bikes. See how he battled with Pedrosa today... until his tires gave up.Originally posted by lalitp View PostAndrea Iannone has been one of the biggest surprise in the Qualifying. Italian on Satellite Italian bike with #2 position on the starting grid. Hope to have some competition to Marquez, it really gets boring when Marquez goes ahead with no one challenging him. Is it turning into F1 in Schumi's era? I guess so.
Marquez is enjoying a strong supremacy in this phase, and the measure of it is that top riders like Lorenzo and Rossi say they are happy when they arrive 2nd or 3rd behind him. Hmmmm. Anyway if Yamaha can make the needed progress we'll see Jorge and Vale challenging Marc more often. The Honda is working too well for Marquez now, the pair is hard to beat.

The Honda has a little more power than the Yamaha, and Marquez found it easy to slipstrem Lorenzo and gain enough momentum for a decisive pass at the end of the straight, after trying it a couple of times. It was also interesting to see how each time Marquez went inevitably wider than Lorenzo in the following corner, but he was able to close his line almost magically, blocking the inside counter pass by Lorenzo. That's where he won. Marquez has such an amazing bike control...Originally posted by Rajat Bhanti View PostJorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez gave some serious lap times in the final laps...special Marc Marquez...

Re: MotoGP 2014 Season - Updates
it was because of honda's higher top speed and marquez making perfect use of the slipstream...from the onboard shots there appeared a difference of 10-15 kmph in the top speed between their bikes..as marquez said in his interviews, his team also had made a small modification in the 6th gear because they thought it might help them under slipstream on the long straight should he need it during the race and he said that modification in 6th gear indeed helped him a lot to make use of the slipstream from lorenzo and pass him at the end of the straight so many times..lorenzo was brilliantly passing marc on the corners under late braking or higher corner speed nearly every time at times through very small gaps, and marc was passing lorenzo at the end of the straight at turn 1 most of the times (but there were also at least 2 times when lorenzo himself had defensively braked so late for turn 1 that marquez got beside him due to slipstreaming but couldnt pass him at the risk of running too wide).Originally posted by Rajat Bhanti View PostOne thing I didn't understood in this race...during the last 5 laps, when both of these riders were in the fastest stretch of the whole circuit...Marc was every time overtaking the Lorenzo in that stretch very easily.

not each time mate, but only twice :-)Originally posted by J4rn0 View PostIt was also interesting to see how each time Marquez went inevitably wider than Lorenzo in the following corner, but he was able to close his line almost magically, blocking the inside counter pass by Lorenzo. to verify myself i just watched the last 8 laps of the race and marquez did what you described only on the last lap (when he went wide at turn 1 but trail braked hard mid corner to close the wide gap beside him just in time as lorenzo seemed about to pass him, leading lorenzo himself to brake hard mid corner to save from clipping marc and this slowed his speed down very much enough to give marquez a fairly big gap from lorenzo which turned out too big to close before the finish line) and in the 3rd lap from the end where he again managed to quickly close the subsequent gap from running a bit wide at turn 1 disabling lorenzo to pass him...
however, at 5th and 2nd laps from the end, the roles were reversed....lorenzo himself instead ran a bit wide at turn 1 on account of braking later than marquez to nullify his slipstream and quickly managed to close the subsequent gap beside him to prevent marquez from passing him...and also, at 4th lap from the end, marquez passed lorenzo at the end of the straight at turn 1 and ran a bit wide again but this time lorenzo came back charging at him at the following corner despite marquez hardly leaving much of a space on the inside and made a fairly aggressive pass through a narrow gap on marquez right at that corner (turn 2). :-)Last edited by aditya_YZF-R15; 06-02-2014, 05:42 AM.

This was one epic race and I was glued to the edge of the seat till the very end. Jorge definitely had that Yamaha working well for him. The use of larger discs helped the Yamaha under braking as well as the fact that Mugello is one of the circuits that suit the Yamaha very well despite loosing on top end power. Not to mention that Jorge loves this circuit. It was interesting to watch as for the first 2/3 of the race was spent by Marquez trying to close in on Jorge at the last corner of the circuit. Yamaha's sweet handling machine gave Jorge his superior corner speed and made it difficult for Marquez to come close to him to get a slipstream. Perhaps Marquez found a better line and a later braking point in the closing stages.
I am hoping to see if Jorge and HRC can work together. It would be a dream team. OT...I know but cant help admire both these riders for the way they ride and handle pressure.Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.
