Yamaha and Valentino Rossi set to continue with two-year contract extension

Lin Jarvis “I am very happy that we have concluded the agreement with Valentino for 2015 and 2016. Since his return to Yamaha in 2013 it’s been a very positive experience for everybody involved. After two difficult years ‘away from home’ Valentino returned last year, not only to us but also to his beloved YZR‐M1. Fans of racing across the world were happy to see him rediscover his competitive performance and witness him take pleasure in riding and having fun again on two wheels. The ‘fun factor’ is crucial to Valentino to get results – in fact when he first joined us in 2004 one of the most important motivations for his move to Yamaha was his desire to create an environment where he could enjoy racing. His enjoyment is obvious to all who meet him at the MotoGP™ events or who see him race on TV and is reflected in his excellent race results this year where he is currently in second position in the World Championship. We look forward to the next two and a half years together and it is our intention that Valentino will remain with Yamaha until the end of his sporting career and beyond.”

        Valentino Rossi

“I am very happy to announce that I have signed a new contract with Yamaha to continue together in MotoGP™ for the next two years. I am very proud of this announcement. It’s very important to me because I really enjoy working with my crew and all the guys from the team, both the Japanese and European members that have been with me almost my entire career. It’s great because this was my target; I wanted to continue, I am feeling good and I’m motivated to keep giving my best. I am very happy that I can keep riding my YZR‐M1, that has been my love for so many years and will still be my love this year and the following two seasons. A big ‘Thank You’ to everybody, I will try to keep giving the maximum to arrive in front and make good races. Enjoy!”

Umm. At the start man. Was just watching the replay of the Catalunya race. He was 3rd till turn 1. Then he came through the outside & overtook both Pedrosa & Marquez and took a perfect turn 1-2 as well. Even Rossi tried to follow behind him but couldn't take the turn 1 in a proper line & fell behind. It seemed as if Lorenzo was perfect in braking but Rossi braked a little toooo late & lost the line.

Thats a genuine question my friend. I guess what you meant was how can Lorenzo get such lovely start, and be always first to hit the 1st or 2nd turn (well almost). Lets forget this season, but in the past seasons Lorenzo would be surprisingly quick off the start. Cant wait for Lorenzo to hit his form again.

Marcs start has been one of his improvement areas. Any idea on Lorenzo's contract? Last I read he wasn't too happy with the remuneration he was getting from Yamaha. Would love to see him in HRC livery...

Oh yes, the start has been a strong point of Lorenzo in recent years. It all depends on trusting cold tires, feeling the limit. But there's more to it than rider sensitivity. I remember he was once asked how he was doing such things on cold tires, and he answered "it's a secret". I think it has to do with his supersmooth cornering style, more than with the braking phase in itself. Lorenzo has always been strong on the brakes, but since he carries more speed into the corners, he actually brakes less than others... Forcada has optimized his electronic setup for that style, with unique results. Many of his difficulties these year came from a more nervous engine cause of 1 liter less fuel, and harder Bridgestone tires. He had to adapt his whole electronic setup to these new conditions. Then he's also nervous and frustrated because of MM93's incredible performance, but that's another story.

Good for Dani. One of the most talented riders to have never won the championship. I would have loved to see Lorenzo move to Honda.

That leaves Suzuki now for 2015. Lets hope Cal makes the move to Suzuki as he is anyways not being productive in Ducati.

so this also means that Lorenzo is going to be Rossi's teammate for the next two years too.

i don't see any other possibility.
