    Year of the GOAT!
In contrast Hernandez 'crashed' into the rear of AEsp's Suzuki and thought it was Vinales

      really though -

lorenzo has never been much good in wet (except le mans 2012) and he was somewhat lucky some riders crashed out or else he might have easily been 2 positions lower...even if the visor fogging thing was real and not an excuse, he'd have at best got 3rd position which is what he said in his interview.

likewise, rossi in the past has been mediocre at dry silverstone and even he has said or implied this numerous times over the years...however a dry silverstone has been one of lorenzo's best tracks in the past, and in this weekend too MM and JL had much higher race pace than rossi and, while it's just a coulda shoulda banter, it was very likely one of those two would have won this weekend if it had been dry and rossi would have been at best or most probably a distant 3rd...so yes, rossi was saved by the rain because he almost always rides great in rain no matter what track and lorenzo almost always never does...in dry the situation would have very likely been opposite as it has been in the past in this track...pretty much every rossi fan realizes this because before the race everywhere in the internet/world most of them were hoping for rain after the forecast indicated its high probability, but now most of them aren't willing to simply admit it honestly that rain saved him over his main rival because somehow they think admitting it would be downplaying their idol's great ride :-)
Fans' behavior is whatever it is, we know -- but hey, rain is part of the game and being faster on the wet has exactly the same value, from the point of view of the sport, as being fast on the dry. Nothing to do with luck there: on the wet as on the dry, it is the fastest one who wins. Lorenzo's problem with a foggy visor was real, but one cannot forget that he choose to take big money ($ 900k they say) from a mediocre helmet manufacturer, rather than $ 450 k from his old reliable one. A wrong decision for the wrong kind of reason, as the helmet is quite a critical piece of kit in racing.

On a light note, see this... Rossi's caption says: "That's what happens when your hand is touched by Brad Pitt!

Why MM93 don't like to settle for 2nd? I think he should rethink his "win it or bin it" moto. I mean he crashes every time while chasing after 46.

Rossi and Lorenzo performed identically over the course of the last 6 races in 2014.

Two wins each, two second positions each, one third place each and one DNF each.

really looking forward watching them go head to head for the last 6 races of the a season.

Marc Marquez... for some strange reason still believes he's still in contention to win the championship.

Sure, it's possible, and it'd be crazy if he manages it.

^^ Marquez might end up being king maker, by robbing points of either Lorenzo or Rossi and helping the other gain points. Though #93 will surely 'try' to win the remaining races. All of them!!!

An interesting article on motomatters.com about the Bridgestone tyres.

As if rain is an error of God? It is part of this world, and so it is part of sport. Or of any battle. Was it raining at Waterloo, or was there sunshine? Who cares? Question: If Lorenzo and Marques are so intrinsically faster, WHAT prevents them to be faster also on the wet?

Winglets on Lorenzo's bike this time and he set the fastest lap time of the weekend straight away. Will be interesting to see if they run with it tomorrow also especially if Rossi too goes for it

Looks like anti fogging device for Lorenzo's helmet visior VR46 don't need it.

Rossi said that he will try out the winglets today. Lorenzo was using the Hard tyre to set a scorching race pace. Pirro who tests here regularly for Ducati, showed some great one lap pace on the soft tyres.

Suzuki's struggling. The grip yesterday was much less than when Honda and Suzuki tested in July.

Lorenzo seems the man for pole, though Marquez got traffic yesterday when he was trying to set a fast lap. Rossi is still up there and will probably be at the pointy end of things come Sunday.

well that was a weird screwed up race. both the yamaha boys unfortunately mismanaged the situation and went in for second bike change too late thanks to being too focused on one another...mm managed the situation perfectly...another what could have been a potentially good race again ruined by fluctuating rain, that too in a place that usually stays dry this time of the year..

the title is rossi's to lose now. more or less.

What a drama. Big tactical blunders by the two Yamaha guys. Rossi was absolutely crazy to stay for another lap on a shredded wet tire. His day saved by a Lorenzo crash. Hope the lad is not seriously injured.

Well done Marc and Honda. Brave decision by Bradley for staying on slicks. Great ride by Scott. Unbelievable podium for him after crashing earlier.

Scott Redding's podium finish was really a shocker after his early crash.

And a heavy mistake by Rossi, if only he had boxed in with Lorenzo, he could have recoverd very well but that extra lap helped Marquez to squeeze in the gap between him and Rossi. Marquez was almost 9 second faster than Rossi in that lap.
In short Rossi just got Marquez'ed!!

                                Incorrect.

Rossi's strategy was nearly perfect. Look at the big picture and not just this race. Rossi's battle to the championship is with Lorenzo of which there's hardly any doubt. Marquez will play a huge role, not for himself as much as for where either Yamaha rider finishes in the end.

That said, today Rossi's strategy was quite solid. He knew, being in lead, that Lorenzo will wait for him to go into pits so Rossi delayed his move for as long as he could on the wet weather tyres (Rossi looked over his shoulders couple of times to see how much gap he was making). Eventually, Lorenzo could wait no more and went in while Rossi continued for one more lap. When Rossi did went in to the pits the following lap, Lorenzo (I'm guessing) must have thought to gas it up a bit to move one position up against Rossi eventually having his race ended in to the gravel at the final turn.

Of course, Rossi would have wanted to win, it wasn't an entirely perfect strategy but it worked in the sense that he pushed Lorenzo to continue with him for as long as he could

I would assume Rossi knew that his delaying move to the pits would hand the victory to Marquez, but Rossi only cared about finishing ahead of Lorenzo (Marquez's position didn't really matter). And now, Rossi leads Lorenzo by 23 points and Marquez by 63 points with 5 races remaining.
