Does Achiever actually sell? I am still to come across one on road Or maybe its something to do with my tastes
For others who think that disc don't matter much in Indian market, I think its not really right. For those going for a basic commuter bike without much of performance to show off, the disc might not matter but anyone who chooses to move a ladder above certainly has an eye on the disc brakes and Yamaha might just be in for a surprise. I have long held this belief that Yamaha has not understood the Indian psyche. Probably now is the time to change their MBA think-pad

      • With Discover150 and now SZ Hero Honda might start promoting its Achiever again.

@All - Can anyone confirm whether the tank of SZ is made of metal or plastic (Like FZ)? I don't see the mention anywhere and hence the question

        • Yamaha SZ vs Bajaj P135

I would like to see an Xbhp comparo between P135 and SZ since both fall in the same price bracket and many new buyers will be confused as to which bike to choose.

Though, im pretty sure that P135 will eat up SZ....

          • As expected, Gladiator, G5, and Alba are discontinued to make way for the YBR125 and SZ150.

            • Gladiator is done with,replaced by SS125..........a performance 125cc.
YBR125 is an entirely new 125cc segment for Yamaha, the budget 125cc commuter bike.
SZ,is the light and sporty offering by Yamaha. Its awesome that this bike has been fed with so much torque at low rpms,it will be a gem to ride in the city.Nevertheless,it will feel powerful in the city.
But long hours of Highway riding may not be its fort.

                Max Torque - 12.8 Nm @ 4500 rpms

Though the Max Torque number looks same as others in the competition, but the fact that it is actually a tad bit more than Max Power and more than that it comes at 4500 makes the bike very usable in city conditions and much more fun to ride than it's competition.
Already there are complaints of poor top-end from the engine in FZ where max torque is at 6000 RPM, now the top-end is gonna suffer even more since the peak torque is coming that low in the rpm range...

                          • It has to be the best looking bike this side of the R15 and the bulllets.A pity that yamaha seems to have been affected by the petroleum price de regulation, because this could have been a refined RTR beater .Which was expected from yamaha. The bike will sell.No doubt about it ,with such aggressive pricing ,looks , yamaha quality and the 5 year extended warranty scheme.
If only this bike had another sportier option with 14bhp, 4 valve head and disc brakes.Of course with a higher price tag. Then yamaha would have stood up to its reputation. Opportunity lost. But well done yamaha.
Till recent yamaha was making oddly designed bikes with engines which were capable of standing up to bigger bikes, now it seems to be the other way round.

except 4 valve tech and the fact that it's not a RTR beater, the Fazer has everything what you're asking for...
It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch

Yeah i agree .But not everyone likes their bike to look like a fazer.Personally i prefer the look of the sz and the R15.
I mean think about it ,this bike can easily compete with the rtr in looks( sporty for indian bikes as opposed to the street fighter design of the fz) .So why not make another model of the sz ,say a 14 or 15 bhp motor,4valves and discs and call it a SZ sport or something? That way they can kill 2 birds with one stone.
Its once again a typical UJM .Honda had the chance and they blew it with the dazzler, i mean they could have made it sportier with rear sets and clip on handles. Now yamaha has given the sz sporty stance sans the engine option.Everyone knows that Bajaj is coming out with 4 valve head for the entire pulsar range and tvs with 3 valve heads.
So what i am saying is maybe yamaha could have come out with a cheaper 4 valve head bike in a air cooled engine. As the FZ is a street fighter design. As it is the sz looks sporty .
