hey! have any of you noticed that the front drum brake is a 150mm one.. so it will be stronger than a conventional 130mm drum..(off course not stronger than a 240mm disc..)
What I dont understand is that whats the point in designing a bigger drum n wasting money(R&D.. or going the non standard way) ... and not giving a simple 240mm disc..

P.s - Awesome contrast yamaha!! the front tyre of FZ16 is as fat as the rear tyre of the SZ(and a low profile one too) and they have the same engine..

    • Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.
    • What do you call a cyclist who doesn't wear a helmet? An organ donor

ya it looks like FZ went in for a diet and came out as SZ............that is why FZ's front tyre = SZ's rear tyre................try to imagine SZ in front of FZ with little distance between the two bikes, then you will know exactly what i mean

Great job Sunil. Apart from the details you've put up, the fact that you rode the bike to the hilt adds weight to it all.

The SZ-X seems to be pretty well put together and is apparently priced well. I'd agree though with most who point to the conspicuous absence of a disc brake up front and the self starter. 150mm drum would have been a USP some 10 years ago. But with most bikes sporting discs these days, the larger drum doesn't compensate.

^ I doubt if any commuter is going to ride the bike like that! It is usually rider skills that fall way behind before the tyres show up with their deficiencies.

Let us scan ride the lanes of Delhi and see how many people dont ride like that to avoid the insane traffic and potholes and just playing jolly too

Thanks for sharing the info and pictures SunilG. Yes, the SZ does look muscular in the flesh too. Although the power is nothing to write home about, but given it's target audience, it should do decently well (majorly because of the fuel-economy). However, the omission of a front disc is a HUGE minus point for the bike as far as I am concerned.

@SunilG: It was nice meeting you...again!

Yamaha has done with the SZ what BAL did with Discover 150. Am I seeing another segment of motorcycles coming up? The detuned / High FE 150cc Segment..

Great coverage, and the bike looks very nice. Not puny like dazzler or honda siblings. Head on Front view looks bit wierd, the black space in the fake air scoops. But overall a very good package visually, specially at the price range.

It seems this concept of tanks scoops are becoming like copy and paste, first the apache bought with the RTR 180, now it seems everyone is following it.

actually,it was the CBZ which first sported it...anyway,coming back to the topic, nice coverage...
btw,I think the naked styled YBR 125 with round lamps in the earlier pics looked way cooler than the one they launched.

It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch

                            Yamaha's three models.
                            SS125,YBR125 and SZ-X
                            targets at
                            Bajaj's three models.
                            Discover150,Platina125 and Pulsar135LS respectively.

I am still optimistic about the fact that Yamaha would provide an optional disc set-up for the SZ-X eventually.Getting rid of the disc,as standard was a part of the price cutting endeavour. If customers demand it,they can provide for the setup available on the Gladiator easy.

awesome yamaha, i like these bikes for simple, practical and staright forward tech with a price to spice it up. They should now reload the Crux to look exactly like the RX100

                                i can see a w i d e smile on the yamaha dealer's face !!
