When it comes to a high quality tech laden product we have none. Sure R15 has some of them but not exactly everything else the cost would have close to 2lakh.

To simply put it whatever we are riding are tools and we don't have a toy. R15 is a bridge between tool and toy. KTM's are never meant to be a mass product, it will always be a very niche product. People who can appreciate the quality and the parts used and wants to be differentiated will buy it.

And nowhere its mentioned that this KTM is coming to India. So stop saying that do we need another 15ps bike?

Point taken. And now.. thats what we are talking about! Anyways.. thanks for the heads up on the "Not coming to India" part.. as it is.. I guess I was not the Niche KTM was looking for. Personal opinion, no offents to anyone. Peace.....
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

It will be like saying "A Twister is a fun machine and totally worth 1 lac because it looks like a CB1000R and makes less power and torque than a Unicorn", I mean are they even connected? And the reason FZ-15 needs a 6th as it has to compete with a 6 speed KTM 125.

Why are you even comparing it the R15
The FZ doesnt have a trellis frame

The R15 comes up as a over priced product when you compare performance in terms of cc\bhp to other! A slightly tweaked RTR can give it a run for its money in acceleration...

The Duke is the first product we shall see in the International league with super moto characteristics... hence its an important first step.

Ofcourse, I never said it would\could outperform the R15.... but get button tyres on each of them and try rajmachi ... which one would you prefer? (and dont get your spongy suspension P220 in here )

        • @MG: Is it confirmed that the Duke 125 is not coming to India..? Cause based on the frenzied activity that i have seen in the recent times, i can most definitely say that the Duke 125 IS coming to India.. I have a strong reason to believe based on one of KTM's TEASER VIDEOS that this product is coming to India afterall.. Else why would they proto it and test it in Indian Conditions..? They can as well do it in Indonesia or Columbia for that matter.. Pl spill the beans on this one info Sirji..

@Sayten Bhai: If we put a Monoshock on the 220, atleast then will it come anywhere near R15 let alone beat it..?

Nopes... R15 is a bike designed for tracks, P220 is more of a streetfighter...

We are so used to classify bikes basis their CC that we forget looking at the bike in its totality... No Indian bike comes remotely close to R15 in terms of the confidence it inspires.
The P220 is an super torque machine, but its more of a street machine... take it on tracks and you will crap you pants off!

Dont look at the KTM as a 125CC machine, look at it as the first step into super moto and its exciting! Look at it for the value it delivers... having said that if on a forum of 'enthusiasts' like xBHP if its so difficult for people to digest, imagine what a task Bajaj has in hand if it needs to sell this to the juntaa crowd!

Make this into a 160-180-200 CC bike, and people will suddenly ignore the price mark!

So true!! a bike like Fazer is selling at a price where you get Karizma/P220F.. people are ready to buy it for looks.. but when you say the bike is 125cc.. they start a big debate..

But if thats the case, then why is bajaj planning to test Duke 125s here..? Only Mr. Joseph Abraham & Mr. Rajiv Bajaj might know the answer for this i suppose.. But thanks for the confirmation anyways..

If you are talking about the testing that's a part of any development of a new product, then there is nothing surprising about it.

It was made public way back (about 3 years back) that KTM and Bajaj have entered into an agreement that they will co-develop bikes with engines ranging from 125-350 cc.

Meanwhile Bajaj has gradually bought 36% of share in KTM

According to the agreement, these bikes would be developed (and I guess hence TESTED) in India, manufactured in India and sold throughout the world. Hopefully in India too.

Perfectly put That pretty much answers this thread

Since its being developed by KTM and marketed by Bajaj, I guess there are chances that it will come to India, maybe in a further stripped down form to bring the price under control. Or it would be sold as a premium segment bike aimed at those who understand it Like the Ninja250R
                        D'oh!

Exactly.. Bajaj aims to produce 1500 units a month for a year and gauge market response.. I know this because Bajaj has projected orders for 1500 units of a particular part for this bike.. And, i know this because i myself confirmed that its for the Duke 125 by watching the KTM TEASER VIDEO very carefully..

A KTM Duke 125 customised for India at a price of Rs.1.25L-Rs.1.5L will be just too good to be true. Hope the bike is launched between these fugures.

                            • We came across news of a KTM Duke 125 launch by Bajaj & KTM way back in March 2008. And now in 2010, we hear that the KTM Duke is finally scheduled for launch in Europe in Spring of 2011 and would cost around 4000 euros which roughly coverts to Rs.246 963.778 for a 125cc developing 15hp. Was it or is it worth waiting or is there still hope and a silver lining to this story?
