I can't recollect, but I recently read in a newspaper (ET probably, but not sure) that the are considering a bigger variant for the Indian market...

Otherwise they wouldn't neet to wait till H2 2011, right?

        • Q: Two bikes that you are going to launch for which the analyst fraternity is very excited about. First of course is the KTM Duke and the opposite end of the spectrum would be the Kawasaki 650 cc if I am not wrong. Tell us about both of these and what the gameplan is?

A: As far as the KTM is concerned, we hope to start around March-April next year. The idea is to first start with exports to Europe which is the strongest market for KTM. That will be the Duke 125 and after that we might look at expanding sales overseas first before bringing it to India for the simple reason that although Bajaj has done well in India with motorcycles to come up to 300,000 motorcycles a month.

At the same time we must acknowledge that we have just about 30% market share and this is the time when we have to continue to focus on Discover and Pulsar in the domestic market and not distract ourselves with the KTM here.

As far as the Kawasaki is concerned, yes, it is true that we are thinking of bringing in a bigger Ninja. It might be the 650cc. But to be honest we haven’t made that decision yet. But towards the end of the financial year we should have a bigger Ninja in the marketplace.

I dont think KTM is coming here anytime soon !
its a very ambiguous statement though.

Indians are crazy for "Full Fairings".. it probably doesn't make good business sense to sell Naked KTM bikes in India which cost above 1 lakhs.

Maybe we don't deserve the KTMs

its more about paisa vasul than fully faired..
besides we have enough bikes which can do 120kmph.. lol
why do we need KTMs is the question? bragging rights? who cares !
i would like to brag about something I can own not some rich guy who took money from his dad and bought a whatever bike.

Well then, probably KTM's shouldn't come to India.. I am sure that someone from Bajaj might be reading this.

                • Bajaj skipping the 125 is a very sensible decision, they better get a 250 and price it at a slight premium to the cbr250. the honda 250 must have changed the game plans of many companies. I wonder what TVS is planning for the future.

                  @mods:- can we have a poll between CBR250 and a KTM250.

                  1. CBR250 at 1.5 lakhs
                  2. KTM250 at 1.75 lakhs

that should give us an idea

As i said in CBR250 thread, there is more to a Bike than just cc and power. KTM will have amazing handling and will be a playtoy that you can wheelie out of small roads and scare the daylight out of unpredicting people .
You cant think about doing that on a 160Kg+ 250, can u?

Those who have ridden a stripped down FZ can tell you how much fun a light naked bike is compared a heavy hulk of a machine.

its not that bro. it should come at a sensible price.. if you want to be the mercedes A class of the bikes so be it but if honda is gonna give you a fully loaded SUV for the same price isnt it human to want the SUV? after all the A-class even with all its gizmos will be in competition space of the alto i10 and the like.. sure its a mercedes but how many of the alto i10 buyers can actually afford it and even if someone can afford it why would he buy the A-class when he can get his hands on the C or E class?! its as simple.. same reason why the A-class of merc isnt in india !

EDIT: sure you can tell me there will be people who want a small car with the 3 pointed star but really how many? i'm pretty sure the KTM will be priced sensibly(coming for bajaj they will try their best) and this is just misinformation hopefully.

if you dint know people pull off wheelies or whatever on a 145kg bike with 14bhp or a scooty. lol i dont think its that big a deal and stunters arent exactly a big market and even if they were a market i dont think they can afford to crash a 1lac rupee bike your comparison is like comparing FZ to P220 cause they cost the same but fz has better handling while P220 has more power.. power VS handling in my opinion, power wins hands down.

Again, there is a diff between popping a wheelie on a underpowered and a powerful bike. Stunters can tell u how much more fun it is to pop a wheelie on light and powerful bike than a 8bhp scooty. Its lot more fun playing with a light bike.

We cant say what stunters can afford or not, there are many many guys out there who pop crazy stoppies on there R15 and ZMRs and dont care about the damages.

I never compared 220 with FZ. They target different audience and anyways, 220 is not "hulk of a machine" .

Regardless of whether stunters constitute a sizeable market or not, there is no doubt that its much more fun riding a bike which weighs 20 kgs less than one which makes same power and torque but weighs 20 kgs more.
