Re: Petrol prices update thread
Why wouldn't the fuel/chemical/research companies work out something alternate for petrol? I somewhere read/heard that TATA has acquired some technology from an individual with which automobiles can run on artificial petrol/air. Somebody heard of it or is just another time-pass rumor?Originally posted by snehithpereira View PostMy DIY(s) - Sprocket bearing change | Paint job | Custom speedo dial
Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.

It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.

We already have electric scooters...but developing a 2 wheeler with alternate source of energy is very hard..There is no practical electric 2 wheeler which can even match the performance of basic 100cc bike.. Royal Enfield can develop bikes which run on diesel..They should do more R&D on a Diesel Cruiser Bike..Originally posted by petrolhead_chn View PostWhy wouldn't the fuel/chemical/research companies work out something alternate for petrol? Yes... Royal Enfield can do something. I still come across lots of Diesel Bullets for sale at low prices. Nevertheless, people are still ready to fill up the tanks and keep purchasing new vehicles. Maybe I'm thinking too muchOriginally posted by Satyamzma View PostRoyal Enfield

Re: Petrol prices update thread
AFAIK thats just a rumour. But nonetheless I think there are sufficient alternative sources but problem is making them cost efficient, look at the hybrids for eg, way to costly to be owned by the common man, same problem with solar energy too, the damn cells are too expensive over that their efficiency is hardly about 18%(in terms of wastage).Originally posted by petrolhead_chn View PostWhy wouldn't the fuel/chemical/research companies work out something alternate for petrol? Well just wait for the natural oil from the middle east to deplete and the Americans/Russians start selling their oil reserves, then don't be surprised if fuel starts selling at rs.500 a litre.____________________

A fuel injected 2 stroke engine is more fuel efficient and gives higher power output ,and with LESS POLLUTION than a comparable 4 stroke engine of same capacity...but our Govt., which has no clue of technology improvements, is still against the 2 stroke engines...
That said, we do use a 2 stroke Diesel Locomotive extensively in Indian Railways, and the Loco is certified least polluting among the Locos of IR....When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

I dont think Govt has to do anything with banning 2 stroke engines. It is the cost of manufacturing a FI 2 stroke engine that pollutes less and gives higher power output than an equivalent 4 stroke.
If thats the case why do we see 2 stroke Auto Rickshaws still selling? Why are the 80cc 2 stroke mopeds still being manufactured and sold?

Internationally, development of electric sportbikes has advanced manifold and today we have at least four electric superbikes which can match their litre-class petrol counterparts - yes, I am talking of Brammo, Zero, Energica and Lightning. Google them up! Yes, they are mighty expensive to own and are niche market specifics...but I am really hoping that mass-market manufacturers will be able to make high-performance electric motorbikes more affordable.Originally posted by petrolhead_chn View PostYes... Low-displacement diesel engines are not really very beneficial, neither can they be tuned to give the refinement and economy expected from a bike. Ever riden a Diesel bullet? It feels worse than a Greaves diesel autorickshaw, it's that bad. Till date, engineers haven't been able to come across a diesel engine refined enough to fit a Nano! And with de-regularization of diesel prices, how much of a difference can we expect in days to come?Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. Govt., is the Authority to certify any car or bike fit for running within it's jurisdiction...and in India Production and sales of 2 stroke auto rickshaws , other than running on LPG or CNG is not allowed in metros since 2007....the increase in cost to convert a 2 stroke conventional single cylinder engine to Fi is NOT THE REASON , which is only 15 K .In Mangalore Bajaj had released few 2 stroke Fi Autorickshaws which was successful...but the problems to get a 2 stroker certified from the Govt., post ban is a herculean task, and Bajaj just gave up and towed the line with LPG and CNG autos...Originally posted by chinmayakar View PostI dont think Govt has to do anything with banning 2 stroke engines. Re: Petrol prices update thread
There is a saying "A rupee saved is rupee earned."
Similarly, apart from finding out new technologies and alternates, 'organizing the existing traffic systems' especially during morning and evening peak hours would greatly bring down the fuel consumption and eventually lesser demand and costs. Though the amount of fuel wasted/consumed by an individual's car/bike might be negligible, it certainly is alarming when consolidated.
In fact the government can continue purchasing fuel and begin storing it if the fuel consumption reduces. Don't you all think so? Maybe it is too much to think for our country. But it is possible over time!
I just wish some enthusiast from the government office with considerable powers and influence can do drastic reformations before he retires.
Phew! A wish always remains a wish

2 days back I saw a consignment of autos without the CNG kit in Mumbai. What about the mopeds? Is it explicitly mentioned any where Govt has banned 2 stroke engines? Forget India, why did MotoGP discontinue 2 strokes? Why across the globe manufacturers are concentrating more on 4 stroke? Are 2 strokes banned around the globe?Last edited by chinmayakar; 09-19-2013, 12:25 PM.

Re: Petrol prices update thread
Not that it is relevant to the thread. But 2 strokes are not banned in India. Norms were made so stringent that 2 strokes couldn't keep up.Originally posted by chinmayakar View Post2 days back I saw a consignment of autos without the CNG kit in Mumbai. What about the mopeds? MotoGP discontinued 2 strokes, because the manufacturers didn't want to spend R&D on 2's when their were going to be selling 4's in the real world.
4 strokes are more profitable for manufacturers... Guesswork here!!!!
There are a lot of small engineering houses who are once again trying to develop clean 2's. Some claim to have made 2's which are even less polluting than 4's. But how economically viable that is, I don't know.Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Bajaj Auto to roll out more efficient two-stroke bikes - Economic Times
If 2 strokes are banned, how can Bajaj come out with GDI on a 2 stroke engine. Leave the Autos, they were also planning to implement it on 2 wheelers.
Why would someone invest in R&D when it is going to be banned?
Ban on 2-stroke autorikshaws to hit Scooters India hard - Economic Times
This article says Delhi Govt was planning to ban 2 stroke Autos. I am sorry if I missed any where it says "Central Government has banned 2 strokes, hence going forward no 2 strokes will be manufactured".
Moto GP too it was banned due to increased cost in R&D and environmental issues.
