The "Whole" auto (motorcycle) industry started and came back to carbs.. well not all (Bajaj, TVS and even Honda did.. with the stunner).. some still continue with it (Hero, Yamaha and Honda).

The "Whole" car industry have to stick to it as there is no option but to go for Fi.

I am not against "Fi".. its a modern tech and definitely the way forward.. In fact I would choose a model with Fi than a model without Fi.. even at 20K premium (and with no full fairing). I am just amused at the guys who believe that "Fi" would boost performance and fuel efficiency like magic.
I'm not going to talk about carbed diesels. Google can help you with that.

Stop dragging this along. You talk as if motorcycle manufacturers returned to Carb because they felt it's superior. That's not the reason ok? Many do it because of the cost factor. Not just the cost of implementation but the cost of repair is higher in case of an FI system. That explains why you see more carbs in commuter class. Most/all of the bikes in the 1+lakh segment uses FI. Do you have any explanation for that? Car manufacturers stick with FI because they know it's the superior technology and the cost involved more than makes up the results. Even without the emission norms, they would stick with it.

FI wont boost anything like magic. But it's a definite improvement over carbs. In some cases (like in small single cylinder engines), using a FI doesn't make sense due to financial reasons. That's it.

So Google helped you to know that there are no carbs in Diesel By the way it was you who dragged this OT.

Who the hell ever said that Carbs are superior?

Who exactly are those guys who amused you? I don't find anyone here saying that "Fi" would boost performance and fuel efficiency like 'magic'. Are you saying that you are ready to pay 20k premium just to start your bike flawlessly in cold mornings?

            Yes, gladly.

Plus one doesn't have to retune while riding at elevated altitudes

Dont want to be part of the OT and argument. But below are little observations that I could gather from motorcycling and riding experience about FI and Carb.

              1. Yes, Cold start is where FI wins.
              2. Better fuel management is with FI.
              3. On highways and when ripped, FI results in way better fuel economy than Carbs. Just as generic comparison My R15 V1 used to give 38kmpl when ripped at 110 kmph and my CBZ Xtreme used to give 33kmpl when kept constantly at 100 kmph and my 390 gives 38 kmpl when driven sanley at 90kmph below 6000rpm. Now one can say that we cant Compare R15 to Xtreme or with 390. But thats not the point, its about fuel management.

Apart from being expensive, FI is always better than a Carb (unless you are a hard core tuner with some mechanical tools). I once had a wild thought of considering NS as my next bike ( dont know what went on my mind :P ) as it shared D200 engine. But once I came to know that it was carb, I simply backed out

Dude, the 390 Duke delivering 38 Kmpl..?? The 200 Duke that I was riding (in Hyd) never crossed 35 kmpl when ridden very sanely.

Another experience with the 500 Classic that I was riding at the same time.. it returned near 30 kmpl,.. plus the fueling was not accurate too.. On cold start it never felt like a Fi engine. In the end it's how the Fi is tuned.

Probabaly the tall gearing is playing the role here. It easily gives above 35 kmpl when ridden in 6th gear at 6000 rpm which is at around 90-96kmpl. In the last IBW ride, mine and another 390 MID reading showed as 43 kmpl and 41 kmpl respectively. I have done manual F-F check on another ride where it gave 33kmpl and MID showed 33kmpl most of the times.

In that case its the gearing that gets credit, not the FI right..?

Same could be the case with the 6th / tall gearing of the R15.

In this particular example, I have compared three completely different set of bikes at different speed and different RPMs. So I would not say it as conclusive and pretty complicated one. But to be fair, if we do the comparisons with ZMA and ZMR which have same engine with one equipped with FI. Many have reported noticeable differences in the mileages during the highway rides.

Interesting... because in case of the P220 there was never a difference noticed by me

Comparision between R15 & CBZ is not fair at all as they use different tech.. R15 has got 4-valve liquid cooled engine with 6-gears (gearing does make a lot of difference). Another thing is @110 kmph, R15 is not exactly stressed, but it's more like in it's elements with much more juice left, can't say the same with CBZ. You may refer to one of those videos by top gear, where they pit Toyota Prius against BMW 5 series on a track and BMW ends up returning more mileage while absolutely trumping Prius in performance. That said, I'm amazed that D390 is able to return 38kmpl (irrespective of the condition 90kmph @6000 rpm).
