both of you misunderstood. he is expecting the P375 at 1.75, not RC 390. (hint : look at the thread title)

First they need to stop selling 220 , at least when they launch 200ss or whatever. 150, 180 are dated stuff. Yes 200 NS is a nice bike and it have great weight balance (almost 50 - 50), have a great chassis etc. but what all they said in the ad is just 3 spark plugs. I think ad was not good enough, and overall marketing strategy was not good enough. thing have changed, now competition is not limited to Karizmas and Apaches, they need to understand that.

Now only a small section in India knows that NS got a perimeter frame, and how the new exhaust helps etc.
Unless bajaj manages to spread this knowledge to wider range of probable customers, they will struggle to sell.

"another factor is just 200 cc?"

Once I was in a KTM showroom, two guys came on a bike stopped, asked the showroom guy "Kithna cc?, 250 hena", and the showroom guys replied "no its 200".
They started the bike and ready to leave, they have decided not to buy instantly!, I stopped them and said a bit, they parked the bike and entered the showroom to checkout the bike.

for most guys less cc means less a bike, so 220 / karizma is the choice for them.

For the fairing guys there is CBRs, R15 and ZMR.

For less aware people no specific reason to buy 200 NS.

Bajaj was too over confident that, pulsar need no advertisement !!!

But that was not the case. Basically 200NS does'nt have the size and presence of a big bike. It is more similar to pulsar 135 both in size and looks. Also the NS is a drastic deviation from the conventional pulsar design style. For instance, the almost invisible underbelly exhaust is not liked by many people whom I know. (BTW,I also dislike that). Indians are still conventional and we expect a powerful bike to be of impressive size, with a proper full length exhaust. Most people don't even really bother about how many plugs the bike has, or how many extra valves are there. I think Bajaj should look into this aspect more seriously.
Bhai, you expect the company to deliver according to what the public likes or dislikes? If that was so then there would hardly be any development in any industry. 200ns is a bike of a totally different class and people like you who hardly know the advantages of the features present in the bike will happily settle down for a p220. Am not saying that's wrong. But if you just ignore an ns without knowing what is underneath its frame, then that's a mistake. Full length silencer? And you say most people don't even bother how many valves/plugs the engine has and bajaj has to improve on that? How do you expect them to? Is there a better technology in your mind? Do share.
And if people do not care how many valves it has or not (and you included yourself in that group by saying so yourself), then it is good that they don't buy it. I would feel pity to see such a bike at the hands of such ignorant people.

Just realised that there has been some issues with the interpretation. In my first post, I was talking about the P375's expected price (1.75L). You probably thought I was talking about the RC390. And I didn't notice the 'RC390' in your post. I thought you were talking about the P375 .

Yes they needed to address the things you mentioned but the main reason behind bajaj's bad show imho is the myth going on over years saying "bajaj bikes last only a year" f*** even a guy you don't know which bike belongs to which brand but still they say bajaj bikes are crap...
Main thing they should concentrate is brand image because people choose fz(no offence to the owners) even though its the worst in fe in 150cc and at a cost of almost that of zma and p220 and people just hesitate to go for ns

And another reason is we can get 220cc at a cheaper price then the ns ..but IMO they shouldn't discontinue the 220 because many people like the semi fairing they should just update it first..

And the guys who pick bike seeing the cc only god can help them ..

Also, the number of valves and spark plugs do matter! Read about them. You may agree to disagree, but kindly do not post useless stuff on the forum. This is the herd mentality we know about and that needs to change!

Finally, welcome to XBHP and do post your introduction in the proper section. Thanks.
There is no need to be so over-sensitive, dude! As if you have invented all those things and given it to Bajaj!! Do you work for Bajaj or are you a bajaj sales guy?

First of all, I never said that underbelly exhaust is a waste. I just told the general feeling of a common Indian buyer. I know that underbelly exhaust has its own advantages. If a company like Bajaj prefers underbelly exhaust in its latest models over conventional full-length exhaust, there should be some advantage behind that. I am fully aware of that. I just said that the majority people still prefer conventional exhaust.I don't know from where you got those words that "underbelly exhaust is a waste". I did'nt mention anything like that.Anyone can check my previous post and verify that.

As you said if Indians want 5+5 as 55 , then mathematics need'nt change. But if u want to sell something to Indians, u should learn their mathematics first. There is no point in arguing with them that for you 5+5 is 10. I appreciate modern design trends and I am a fan of latest designs too. What I said is about the tastes of the typical common Indian. Not all people are living in Mumbai/Bangalore and are fully aware of the latest 2013 Auto-design trends. And not all are lucky/literate enough to have access to forums like this to get enlightenment. But still, today many of them have more purchasing power than you and me. I was talking about those people, who live in B and C grade cities/villages. Since you live in Bangalore, may be you are not aware of how 200NS is selling in C grade cities.I can tell u , it sells in very less numbers. I come from such a town and my work place is Bangalore. So I know the difference.

And I believe this forum is for all those who are interested in bikes. Not just for the technically enlightened people alone.

And regarding the number of valves/plugs. Yes, I know that they do matter. I have read lots about that.I was the owner of the first Gen DTSi pulsar way back in 2003. Infact, the first DTSi owner in my place. At that time,I had done lots of browsing regarding multi-plugs/valves before purchasing that. Did I mention anywhere that number of valves/plugs does'nt matter to me? Again here also, what I said was the feelings of the majority buyers. How many would purchase a bike simply because it has an additional plug or valve? Majority of buyers will purchase it if it gives an additional km of mileage or if there is an additional 1k discount in price. That's it.Nothing more. Let me remind you something-Enthusiasts or technically knowledgeable persons are a very small minority in our country. Only they would know the value of an added valve/plug. And by the way, there is no great difference in the extra plug that Bajaj offers in DTSi models. Even single plug Unicorn is far smoother and as fuel-efficient as a Twin-plugged 150 Pulsar. So leave that argument aside.May be for bigger sized or multi-cylinder engines, it makes a difference to have extra plugs/valves, but for small capacity machines I have always felt that it is nothing but a pure marketing gimmick by Bajaj.

If you felt that what I shared was useless, then may be this is not the right forum for people like me. Has this just become a forum for the hypocritical enthusiasts who presume that they know everything and others know nothing or that others opinion has no value in front of their prejudiced ideas? May I know what was useless in that post? I have a request- Please show respect to your fellow members. Just because one's post count is 1, and others is 2000+, it does'nt mean that the latter is technically superior and he can blindly write off anything the former has shared as "useless".

So there is actually no need of an official welcome to me, since I am not really new to Xbhp..I had created a new account in 2010 but had been inactive with this new account till now.
But anyway, I thank you for your welcome gesture. But if this is the general behavioral pattern of the new Xbhp site and its members, then I think it's better to remain inactive again. Regarding this discussion, not interested in further arguments on this really silly topic. Bye for now.

Pardon me if I'm wrong
But I think the 'image' of a motorcycle in India is quite 'low', for lack of a better worse word
If people aren't aware of the advantages of an underbelly exhaust or if choose to rate a bike by it's displacement then they don't deserve an NS
Or any good Bike for that matter
Bajaj has taken quite a step I think, by making a machine like the NS. Taking quite a leap away from the conventional motorcycles made in the Indian market
And that must be appreciated

Dude..I just agreed with sparky on the facts regarding the poor sales of 200NS and its lack of marketing. I am not anyone to expect the company to sell according to public likes/dislikes. I never said that I don't really care about the number of valves or that I belong to any group that believes so. Please don't read between the lines. What I said was about a general buyer's lack of interest in such technicalities.I only said that I personally dislike the under-belly exhaust design of pulsar. Well, that is my personal dislike only. Please go ahead and buy whichever bike you want with as many valves as you please. Its your choice. But not all those who buy bother so much about those plug/valve numbers. Different people have different tastes/interests. Not all bikes are bought by Bike "gurus" like you. Technically ignorant people also buy bikes.Their technical aspects are taken care of by their respective service centre mechanics or other biker friends. I am passionate about my bike and know it inside out.But does that mean that I should expect all other owners to be of the same degree? Or that all other owners who are not so technically aware are inferior to me? arrey bhai..nobody is born as a techno-genius. Let the others also buy them. May be it is just the shape or color or the pick-up that attracts them, and nothing technical. Once they buy, who knows , may be they will also become more interested in the technical aspects, and through forums like this, they will also improve their knowledge. I am concluding this discussion.Tired of typing. For the rest of my thoughts on this topic, please go through the reply I have given to Divya Sharan a few minutes ago. Can't repeat all that here again. Bye.

All the technical mumbo jumbo aside, the NS needed a fairing from Day -100 to be relevant against the likes of the R15/CBR150R in this world. An R15/CBR aspirant would never even give the NS a second look. We can talk about tech specs and technology all we want but it is too hard to ignore the elephant (lack of fairing) in the room now.

The faired 200 should have ideally come in immediately after the Duke launch before the Naked. I have no idea why Mr.Bajaj has waited so very long to do the obvious thing. It doesn't matter how technologically / dynamically superior the NS is compared to its peers, it can never penetrate the market which has the most aspirational value due to the lack of the fairing.

Technology aside, IMO, not launching the Faired 200 soon enough has been the biggest Product Management blunder from BAL ever since Kristal DTSI. Now that the novelty value has wore off, the faired 200 cannot be guaranteed to be as much of a success as it would have been 1.5 years back. I hope BAL learn from their blunder now and not repeat the same mistakes when launching the Pulsar 3xx.

It may have seemed like biased, but what I tried to state initially was why 200NS sells in low numbers because the common Indians are ignorant and they care less about the technical goodies that it comes with.I did'nt say that their attitude is good or bad. You somehow got this idea that I am biased to them or I am one among them. I can't help that. As long as you have that in mind, there is no point in arguing with you.

Who said that technology is bad? It's a good thing that Bajaj introduces those latest features in its bikes which even japs are not giving in their latest models here.I am also a fan of Bajaj in that matter. Infact, at this moment also, we have 2 pulsars in our family. One is mine, and the other too was bought on my recommendation only. I just mentioned about the general thought process of the common buyer.I did not know that talking about a general trend here was ignorance. Thanks for pointing out that.

NS sells in low numbers w.r.t BAL's predictions. But, the count is healthy. BAL may have expected to sell X number of NS's but it managed selling only Y (here Y is less than X). But, this Y alone is a healthy count (mathematically).

At the end of the day, one has to shell out 1L for this bike and that's where most non-enthusiasts buy something commuter-ish.
Also, as Anant pointed out above, everyone needs a a DHOOM bike. I wanted too.
Since NS is not an FS, it won't sell. This is what the normal junta thinks and does. And this is exactly the herd mentality I was talking about when I replied to your first post in the previous page. If this mentality doesn't change, no bike would sell however good it may be.

Maruti has a nice ad that's put sarcastically across all of us - "For a nation that's obsessed with mileage."
Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.
Because everyone who passes, isn't a martyr!

On a normal day they don't like to keep words like good and bajaj in a single sentence. Even when they were replying to your post, they were praising the technology itself or rather blasting at your ignorance.
Yes XBHP has changed a lot. Well come back.
First of all, in a forum you hardly know whom you are talking to. You talk to a novice biker, a new guy or even the president, our replies would be how we feel. My reply cannot be changed according to what the other person professionally is. Its good to know what the other guy does but letting it out here just cause of my reply is something I which I find not worth.
VMaX - my reply to you was only concerning your last few lines. That bajaj has to do something about people not liking the features of ns.
You said something about people not liking the almost invisible exhaust and then you spoke of people not caring how many valves or plugs are there. And you ended off saying bajaj has to do something about it. What can you expect it to do further when already it has produced an excellent bike?
Now keeping this in mind you can read my message. Cause I never read between the lines as you claimed.

I was an active member of the old XBhp (around 2004-2006 period). When the site went down , I too lost my old account.
I disagree with the part in bold. in such small head, nobody will stuff in an additional plug for no reason, there are other better gimmicks doable with lesser cost. (It is good to remember that, most basic of 100cc discovers comes with gas charged suspensions now, bu they never boasted about it.. ). May be reading more on combustion efficiency, plugs, and timing will help. but since you said you have done that in 2003, you may already know that.

For whole big post,

Its very simple, for example consider this scenario,

Customer is an awesome guy who believes, a 3.00L motor that makes 60HP 100 Nm is better. But a company have an advanced 1.5 L motor that makes 200 HP and 150 Nm.

Company can do 2 things:

1. Since customer is looking for an old tech 60 HP 3L motor, make one and keep selling
2. Make the customer aware , why the modern 1.5 L motor is better than old 3L. Sell it to him. A more happy customer at the end.

If I am the seller here I will choose the second option. most enthusiasts will think this way. That is the point Divya was saying I think.
