Offcourse the total 3 kgs difference due to several things which include bigger and full metallic and slipper clutch too.

Yes even they said 3 free services.
Later paid servicing at 5k kms.
Though they said manual and service chart along with part list are yet to arrive.
    Service charges will be costly.

Also I doubt mechanics are trained for R3
They dont know about all the parts and even didnt said anything on training.
Yet the dealer said they will keeping one R3 for training and testing purpose.
Hahaha... Owners should give their bike where Yamaha superbikes are being serviced, hopefully they know better. But yes, the initial lot will be the guinea pigs.

So the discussion has now come to Kerb weight and with what the tanks are made of? Good.

Well the R3's tank is not plastic, it's metal. There's a matte finished premium plastic strip running through the centre which acts as a good tank pad also. The second thing is I felt the R3 to be more upright than N300, again a personal view. Yes the headlight design is too good and when you see it in flesh you'll understand.

Slipper clutch can be done away with if you know throttle blipping. Also, frankly speaking, I will not take my R3 to race tracks where I need to downshift at high revs. So absence of Slipper clutch is perfectly ok for me. Also, one disadvantage to me is with Slipper clutch there's little/no engine braking.

ABS is one thing which I'm going to miss the most. It's a needed safety feature. And there's no substitute to that. But then again, with perfect braking you can do. I've done heavy braking in my R15 and never got into any mishap, but again I'm not justifying the lack of ABS.

The tires I hope will be good for touring in Indian roads. But again, if you're a track person, the tires may not hold up as good as the Metz, but then R3 may not be the bike for you.

The wheelbase is short, so handling will be good as a reliable person said, it handles well even at the tracks.

All international and Indian magazines have confirmed the "outer tank" is plastic. There is a video of someone knocking and confirming it. If the inside fuel container is plastic or not we will know only when we open it up.

My opinion on this is, when a brand like Yamaha launches a bike, they make sure that they've the capacity to service the bike well. Apart from that, these bikes, N300/R3, are built so well, unless riders mess with it badly, they don't need any detailed service for long.

            Hey

I think for minimal to moderate touring this range of 300+ is acceptable.
Hardcore tourers would definitely prefer more range.
But then again i know people who tour on Impulse.

Any idea about frame sliders? Are they present by default or one should rely on after market products?

Yes, It should be serviced by sbk mechanics. We need to ensure that sbk service engineer will service the R3 when it is been given to service.

                  By default?
Please educate me sir, which bike comes with frame sliders and the likes by default? (No special editions please, only standard ones!)
                  I seriously want to know.

Also Mileage is something which some say doesn't matter in a 300+ CC bike, but it does for some people.
Yamaha returns a FE of some where around 23(source:- google and R3 forum) and Ninja approx 25+(Source:- google +xda).
Full tank of yamaha would go some where around 322 kms and Ninja would do a whooping 425.
How much of a difference does this make
People tour on superbikes a guy did saddlesore on r1
what i am saying is petrol bunks are available in many places. so should not be a problem. the only thing will be you will stop for refuelling more often on r3 than n300.

lets say you are doing 1000kms ride. and keeping 1L reserved in tanks on both bikes its 13L for r3 and 16L for N300.
                      R3 - 4 stops - 196kms to go still
                      N300 - 3 stops with 200kms to go still

i think we can live with that since we will make 3 stops in r15v2 at 11L (1L reserved so total 12L) and still 200kms to go

But yes, N300 wins here. when buying a yamaha the thumb rule is "never look at FE"

True. In servicing of the R15 they used to give it to new mechs to "learn" and they make mistakes and the customers have to pay for it. in my case a new guy changed the chain sproclet on my r15. he didnt fix the front sprocket properly and it fell while riding. later got to know that it was new mech and they train them like this :/ i got so pisd off on this. This something even i am worried about.

Frankly, I am not worried about after sale service, since I have learn lot last 5 years basic/intermediate automobile thanks to xbhp.com and internet. I did lot of good discussion/suggestion/instructions with Yamaha Service engineer during my R15 service.

Had a concern that came up , was wondering of someone could shed some light on it.

What happens to all the test bikes that were used during the launch event ?
I mean , I hope it does not end up being sold to the customers after changing the tires or some parts.

This is in general , not related just to Yamaha R3.
