Yamaha R25 spotted in India; plot twist?

Seems like the Yamaha R3 or R25 uncertainty isn’t over yet. Until now, word had it that the R3 is what we’ll have to settle for, and not the smaller R25. A search on publicly available import and export shipment records throws up affirmative results – two units of the Yamaha R3 were officially imported to India last January. That claim was backed by our exclusive spy images of the R3 prowling on Indian roads. Our sources also confirmed that Yamaha is indeed readying the R3 for an Indian market launch in and around September 2015.
But now comes the shocker. If any of these images are to be believed, a lone Yamaha R25 has been spied lurking inside what appears to be the workshop of a prominent motorcycle accessory dealer in Delhi. What’s more, the motorcycle purportedly has MRF rubber on. Finished in Diablo Red, it also seems to be in a partly dismantled condition, and the source claims that it is here for “testing purposes”. Further information is scarce.Plot twist : Is Yamaha India actually considering the R25 instead? If no, then what is this motorcycle doing here? We’re flummoxed. Share your thoughts in the comments section below. If yes, then here’s what you should know:Currently manufactured only in Indonesia, the Yamaha YZF-R25 is armed with a new 249cc, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled, high-compression (11.6:1) engine that produces 35 bhp of power and 22.6Nm of torque. The engine also employs Yamaha’s DiASil (Die casting Aluminum-Silicon) cylinders for better heat dissipation and lighter weight. Power is harnessed via a six-speed gearbox.Cradling the high strung motor is a Diamond Combination frame, while a telescopic front suspension combined with a mono-shock at the back hold things up. A mid-ship muffler and a compact engine design account for a low center of gravity, while a perfect 50:50 distribution offers sportier control.

^ Yamaha had imported one 250cc motorcycle for R&D on 11 Apr 2014. This R25 probably is that. So maybe they wanted to launch R25 earlier but now will launch R3.

          • Recently, many spy pics of Yamaha R-25 and R-3 were doing rounds, backed with import details of a 250 as well as a 320 cc motor bike. Many made tall claims that the R-3 would be launched (maybe they wished so hard that they started actually believing in it) but now if IndianAutosBlog is to be believed, even the MD of Yamaha India is yet to be sure of which to launch.
Lets hear it from the members here of what they think would be a viable product at this moment for India.
Many might jump for the R-3 to compete with the Ninja 300 but lets not forget that since the Ninja has upgraded to a 300cc motor, there is no 250cc twin "sports" bike. I guess if R-25 can be priced at around 3 lakhs, it will be a very good proposition.Want to buy a twin but can't afford Ninja, buy the R25. A yamaha fan, buy the R25. R25 is also 'no pauper in paper'. It commands a respectable spec sheet. No direct competitor.
Actually, the R25 seems more promising. Its again the same delimma for me, Mind says R25 but heart says R3. But Anywhere near the pricing of N300 and it'll be better off with the R3.

+ R25 rev limiter start from 14K where as in R3 it is starting from 12.5K, if you need power then KTM RC390 is the best and if you fan of revving .. R25 is the best in 250 CC club.

Though I didn't like the KTM RC390 that much .. but due to the delay in the launch of R25/R3 and my old bike giving up .. I am going to visit the KTM showroom this weekend .. and give it a second chance .. Yamaha is taking a lifetime to launch the bike .. wanted badly to buy the Yamaha but couldn't wait this long ..

I think it might probably be R25 for Indian market since it is still a quantum jump from R15 but also keep the costs low enough to make it competitive against the Ninja 300. And, this is not unexpected considering the conservative yamaha india approach.
