Re: RS200 Alloy Wheel breaking issue!

Wow, what emotions from our members. The only good thing I can make out is everyone wants a product which is safe to use. But bad mouthing the company isn't the apt way to do it. But since India doesn't yet have a lemon law to protect the customer, this way seems the apt way!
Was the particular product in question faulty? Seems so! Almost likely. Are all products built poorly? Doubtful.
Did this particular user get a lemon? Probably.
Does that mean all RS200 are poor on quality? Maybe! From that batch. Or maybe just this bike.
Out of the hundreds of these sold, one has caused a possible fatal incident. Bajaj should be worried. After all, every manufacturer knows that there are defective pieces. Bajaj should make it's QC more effective to eliminate defective batches. Does that mean Bajaj or any automotive firm can achieve 0% defective products? Nope, but they can at least target 95%.
For this user, if his claims are proved true, he must be suitably compensated.
Am I a bajaj fanboy? Hell yeah! I own a bajaj karizma and my entire family line rides on bajaj splendors.
    Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.
Because everyone who passes, isn't a martyr!

Just wanting to mention that even the best manufacturer's have had to deal with these kinda issues.
Found this , Yamaha FZ suffering a similar faith

Lets wait for the outcome of the investigation guys , I am happy that Bajaj as infact acknowledged this and has been prompt in looking into it.

Re: RS200 Alloy Wheel breaking issue!

End of the day I ask myself If I will feel safe in a vehicle design with wheel breakage ? The answer is definitely NO. I or any sane member would not Take the huge risk of falling FACE FIRST in the event of wheel braking,..knowingly. We all want to be safe in our ride and would never take a risk like that. Whether it is Bajaj or their part supplier is at fault is beside the point. Bajaj is Responsible for selling SAFE and Reliable bikes .
.My thinking is that the quality control at the supplier's place and at Bajaj's inward inspection is poor. ..most probably the alloy is not annealed properly leading to the material becoming brittle .
Sincerely hope that the accident is one of a kind and no one else runs into problem ,....
More importantly Bajaj should take note of this problem and correct it before a life is lost.

If you compare these fz pics with rs ones, you will notice fz's rim is deformed and has broken due to some frontal impact. While rs rim is still retaining its circular shape and doesn't show signs of any impact (at least to me).

          Ride safe and have fun.

Though I agree based on the picture, we haven't got a complete picture yet on the whole incident.
A lot of factors might need to be considered and with the riders themselves being in hospital it might be a while before we get the whole picture.

            Waiting for Bajaj's investigations outcome.

I am not that much interested in what Bajaj will say. They definitely gonna not disclose if its their fault.well to be Frank I think there is a common c company which supplies this quality of iron. That's went even one guy with FZ faced the similar incident.

Brother there is no excuse for such mistakes. This is not the 1st time on Bajaj bikes.Common.How would someone feel if in such a situation.Never ever support such things in favor. Its their responsibility how they do it.We are not here to risk our lives for it.
I am sorry if I came across as insensitive or favoring Bajaj. All I wanted to say was that I personally won't put down my money on any product that is less than 2 years old in the market. Every product has a higher failure right in the initial periods of its life cycle. I remember some case of cbr 250 piston seizure in the initial stage. But the situation improves as time passes on.
In this case, it seems on first glance that a life threatening failure has happened not due to user error. But to expect that Bajaj would come with a full disclosure implicating themselves in public domain is hopeless, partly because it would be like suicide for an otherwise good product (RS200, at least as per reviews). The most I expect is for Bajaj to silently compensate the victim with a non-disclosure agreement.
I know expecting a recall on the basis of one failure is too much, but they would have my respect if they do at least for this particular batch.

OT: I am waiting for delivery of my RE C500. I was initilaly thinking of the "Harley style alloys" in Ebay and moving to tubeless at some point. But seeing these pics make me shudder what can I expect from a non OEM product, in case this is the worst case scenario for OEM alloys. I would rather push the behemoth in case of puncture than end up in a ditch due to wheels giving away.

It's obvious many of you don't understand the difference between fan and fanboy, hence the link i posted.

And your poor-attempt-at-sarcasm last line didn't matter, your first one did. "bad mouthing the company isn't the apt way to do it"

So we accept the PR bs that bajaj just dealt out and get on with our lives? Bajaj has fcked up big time. Of course we have to bad mouth a company that plays russian roulette with people's lives in the interest of higher quarterly earnings. Staying silent means this whole issue is quietly cleaned up, and the symptoms are already showing on certain auto sites. xbhp has a responsibility first to the community, not to the companies that get fat screwing buyers over. this forum can have the world's top brands, but is NOTHING without the members.

and i was on my way out the door, when you interrupted me...

I don't and won't trust Bajaj to come out clean on this one; it's like asking the accused to pass judgement on oneself. Nevertheless, they're free to present their case.

Isn't there any legal discourse for the victims(in this case couple who were hospitalised) to pursue justice?

                        Did we miss this? http://www.motorbeam.com/2015/07/bik...king-accident/
Here is what Bajaj had to say on the issue – 1) The breakage on the Pulsar RS 200 was caused due to a side impact by a rigid object on the front tyre and alloy that occurred at a speed of around 80 km/hr from the right hand side.
                        2) The impact at the side at high speeds caused the alloy spoke to break and the front fork to bend to the left. The direction of forces on the wheel can be made out by visible marks on the front wheel alloy and distortion of the front fork.
                        3) The physical external marks are in tandem with fracture analysis that display the directional stress fracture and crack propagation perpendicular to the plane of the wheel moving from the right side to the left. The first fracture occurred in three spokes closest to the impact point, while rest of the spokes failed on account of dynamic overload.

I will not take any sides for the same simple reason that I don't know the truth..

But here is something straight from my heart-

Having used a P220 I am surprised if a wheel could collapse so eadily just out of braking. My 2007 220 is still being run (by the new owner) on the same set of OEM wheels. Nevertheless the pics posted are enough to send a chill down the spine of any prospective customer.

                          1. If the customer involved here really feels the company is at fault then he should actually take Legal actions

                          2. On the other hand if it is proved that it's a case of the customer trying to pull a fast one then the company also has right to press charges on the customer

JUST POSTING ON Facebook will not help the customer get justice... maybe get him thousands of Likes and Shares... and maybe manage to get featured on TIMES NOW NEWS HOUR at Best

By the way a "blog" just posted that the FB profile of the customer now seems to have Disappeared!!

there is a HUGE difference between the wheels on the P220 and the RS200.

both, the diameter of the spoke, and the overall design itself.

                            i own a Dec 2006 P180 UGIII (which i don't use anymore)...

It'll be 9 years in December and I've had no issues too.

but there is no comparison between the wheels on P220/P180 and the wheels on P200 NS.

I wonder if the KTM influenced the new design of alloy wheels as alloy wheels have been used for more than a decade now but only recently are the problems surfacing.

Bajaj's reaction although not desirable is expected, keeping the company reputation at it's interest but they should not dismiss the incident and go deep in to the matter and be bold enough to make a recall if they find out there is an issue with the wheels. And please compensate the person affected which is the least they can do.

But then, these are just our OPINIONS.

I am just saying this but - Why doesn't why our Keyboard warriors also bring in the angle of possible "sabotage" / "intent to malign reputation" (I am just saying here)

I have heard of the issues that KTM Dukes have had with the alloys in India. And now this. It indeed is disturbing and would dent prospective consumer confidence.

Hope this is the last time we get to hear such an incident.
