  • Re: RS200 Alloy Wheel breaking issue!

would you believe if I tell you I saw 20 bikes of Yamaha or some other Japanese brand with broken rims exactly like this at one dealership in some part of UP?

will you believe me blindly or ask for proof in the form of pics or at least more details so that my claim can be verified?

i find it believable simply because they said FIVE bikes NOT twenty.

if you go down to the nearest pro-biking service centre you can be sure you'll see two or three bikes with snapped handle bars. easy!

they are NOT making an outrageously tall claim. FIVE bikes. totally possible.

with barely anyone knowing how to properly use a front brake in this country... tipping over at 40-60 kmph is common.

but that doesn't mean a handle bar should snap right off when it does.

also, call up a bajaj service center and tell them you want a handlebar for a RS200.

you'll get a really sheepish response from the person on the other end of the line.

      no spares in stock!

the article doesn't take any sort of big leap in what Bajaj has proved to be their method of functioning for years.

the website claims... "there are at least seven cases of handlebar breakage in Bajaj Pulsar RS200 that we alone know of."

and that's true. they know of seven such instances.

if you found out that Crocin cured headaches but there were 7 instances of people developing a blood clot in their brain within 2 weeks of taking the tablet...

would you not ask for accountability and a solution?

If "you" said it, I'll believe you. Because you have credibility.

But if a random member with 25 posts says it, I wouldn't.

Similarly, they are one of the larger blogs in the country. I don't see the reason to doubt them.

the pics are there...... granted that all those bikes may not be from the same dealership, but there's no denying that these breakages ARE happening

          that the point.

i had a 1st gen 150 dtsi for 10 long years. had some pretty bad crashes with it too. but this kind of thing never happened with me. but now all the new batches of pulsars have one kind of problem or another. a while back there was the issue of the front forks breaking on the pulsars, and now this.

aggressive pricing is a different thing, but one shouldnt compromise on quality which may result in a fatality

With all these issues of quality and India being a huge two wheeler market, though budget I know, I am disappointed that we don't have a company which can really tests these things for consumers. A shear test of the handle bar will easily give some factual data.

Nobody gives a hoot in India. talk about alloy strength, frame rigidity, the authenticity of gear armour. I can see this fizz over in a few week's time. Everyone would move on commenting on the R3 xbhp ride review page and Bajaj knows this. They would simply wait. The usual Junta buying this would still keep on buying regardless of the fact that the probability of a lemon is higher.
Remember the huge hue and cry around the Street triple detuning issue? There was a thread on tbhp with guys frothing over it, threatening legal action and blah. Nothing happened. Triumph gives them a nice Arrow exhaust and an 'aggressive' map and they are back on their Sunday rides Nobody is very forthcoming as to how they were compensated.Granted that was not something which would jeopardize your life, but I am trying to point out the fact that Triumph was dishonest and treated Indian customers as not important in the bigger scheme of things.
Bajaj will simply hand over a new handle bar/alloy free of cost(doubtful) and get busy ramping up production

We are discussing about the bigger picture here, it doesn't mean that every single bajaj product is defective. It's all about luck, if you are unlucky, you may get hit by a speeding vehicle while crossing a road. Similarly, if you are really unlucky, you may get such a lemon (defective product), but that doesn't mean you WILL get a lemon FROM BAJAJ ONLY, you may end up with a faulty product from any other company as well.

Simply put, go ahead and buy your favorite motorcycle, they aren't all defective. Stop worrying about all this, just buy good protective gears and ride carefully (this is a general suggestion regardless of the motorcycle brand you end up buying).

So buying an RS200 is a lot like Las Vegas?

The CBR250R and the R15 have been around for ages. I don't think we've come across an issue with a Honda/Yamaha wheel breaking off like this.

This has to do with build quality. This has to do with Bajaj.

Exactly !! Triumph spectacle did show our place. Lot of whining initially, group meetings, keyboard wars, arrows n some days later,
I love my bike, more than enough for Indian roads, extraordinary customer care, got a key chain n hair oil free, blah blah blah...

Whoaa. So this bike has some serious quality issues.Very sad to see this. The Owners and Pillions basically are endangering their lives if they ride this Bike.I think because of slightly harder Braking,The Alloy Spokes couldn't have withstood the Braking force of a Sudden or even an Agressive Braking,But this wouldn't make sense as the Impact would have been very near to the Discs (Behind the Discs on the Wheelhub) and It is very sad to see such a very bad quality Control which can endanger many lives.

Irony part is,People say TVS quality is MUCH worser to Bajaj and...Please get wrecked.

has xbhp asked any questions to the manufacturer on the alloys or regarding the 'rumors' (since you take it with a pinch of salt) surrounding the RS200? being "india's most popular motorcycling portal since a decade" , I think you guys should (if not yet) take up some investigative journalism too rather than just sticking to company launches and test rides. I notice that a lot of information especially related to complaints comes up from other automotive websites and is merely copy pasted by fellow users on the forum.

According to a report by motoroids the alloy wheel breakage is an issue with a Chinese manufacturer of alloys called Wanfeng. China quality strikes again!

Is there a way to figure out if your alloys have come from Wanfeng?
