I may be wrong, but I don't think BMW will be selling its products through TVS dealers. Maybe they will create a dedicated dealership like BAJAJ did with Kawasaki. As per price, that really depends upon whether they introduce the bike as BMW or TVS her in India.

Just creating a separate production area does not ensure quality, Chakan has an entire fully automated overhyped plant for KTMs.Originally posted by RoyalIndian View Post

Re: BMW's 313cc G310 R
You should read their press release document properly. They are not just creating a separate production area but they are also importing German manufactured machinery and tools for the production line. Also BMW Personnel will be training and supervising TVS workforce designated for the manufacture of the G310. Lets not forget something here, Bajaj owns half of KTM's stakes and so they can call shots on KTM's decisions. TVS does not own anything of BMW, they are merely in a Tech-sharing agreement. TVS has to play by BMW's rules. I am not fanboying over BMW and thrashing Bajaj but I keep faith in a brand like BMW and their quality assuranceOriginally posted by AmitRavi07 View PostJust creating a separate production area does not ensure quality, Chakan has an entire fully automated overhyped plant for KTMs.

That being said, BMW Motorrad (their motorcycle showroom name) is present only in Mumbai and Bangalore (and Mangalore I think). I think they will try to build more establishments in various cities before launching the G310R because I believe the G310 is targeted at the mass population and without enough network, it would be useless to launch that bike here.
Which again can mean something and that is, it might be a while before the G310 actually launches for Indian market

Re: BMW's 313cc G310 R
Agree with you mate! In fact I now own a Triumph Street Triple 675 ... yet I remain a great fan of my previous bike Duke 200!Originally posted by RTR_Naman View PostI am not a big fan of KTM but I find it extremely appalling to witness every thread getting transformed into a platform for bashing and mudslinging on KTM, this thread being no exception.
Yes, they have some build quality issues, they are not as smooth as Japanese bikes, so what? Why do people fail to understand that it is KTM who has changed the scenario of our performance biking? It doesn't take a Ph.D to realize the number of dreams that have been fulfilled by KTM. All we had was R-15, KTM made performance biking affordable in India. How many of us used to crave for performance bikes that won't dig a hole in our pockets? Well some us are now able to satiate our hunger now, thanks to KTM. Just try to do some research and find out the number of brands that have debuted in Indian performance biking market after KTM set its foot in India. KTM is one of the best things to have happened to our biking industry, a biker has now options to choose from AS/RS/NS 200, TNT 300, Harley Street 750. A lot of brands are paying attention to Indian market, and it is KTM that has made it possible. A few years back, there were only imports for the super-rich. Most of the big brands didn't use to give a damn about our market, and now we have BMW manufacturing bikes in our country.
KTM offers its bikes at a very very reasonable price that to some people, it may even look like a bargain. 390 unleashes 43+ horses beneath our butts, offering brutal acceleration that some of us even have a hard time to control. At 1.9 lacs (ex-showroom Delhi), you get Metzeler tires, ABS , fully digital display offering tons of information(yes, I know it is small in size), USD forks, and even a slipper clutch. What more do you want? Even if you add maintenance costs, the overall cost of ownership is still not exorbitant. Even R-15 is not that easy on the pocket to maintain. How can Duke390 be compared to Ninja 300 when it is in a different price bracket altogether? Yes, Ninja 300 is damn good, but for the price of Ninja 300, you can buy two Dukes, 390 for yourself, 200 for your younger brother, and you'd still have some money left to buy decent gear. And guess what, you still don't get ABS on the Kwacker. KTM has issues but it should be criticized only when other brands offer products better than Dukes/RCs at the same price point. Until then, malicious comments about KTM are better left with ourselves.
People should not talk about quality of KTM. These are excellent world class products at a great value. I faced no hassles during 3.5 years of ownership of Duke 200 and it was a thoroughbred which gave nearly all the pleasures of a superbike on a smaller scale.
Let other manufacturers take up the challenge and provide a product that can compete well with KTM. Otherwise no matter who says what - KTM is going to further capture sports bike market in India - nobody can stop that! And that's a good thing for Indian motorcycling scene...
----consecutive posts auto-merged-----
I will go one step further and say that KTM gave people like me an opportunity where I could talk to my German or British colleagues and say that - yeah, we also produce world class bikes right here in Pune - which are sold all over the world - and we ride exactly same thing that our counterparts in developed countries are riding...Originally posted by jeevan.chaukar View PostAgree with you mate! Remember - KTM has not made India specific models to produce lower power than what they do in Austria/Germany!! We are on entirely equal footing with anyone else in world when it comes to KTM...But we get the same thing at cheaper price because of "Made in India" tag! It is a matter of pride for me. This can't be said with most other manufacturers who water down the product while giving it to us here!

Re: BMW's 313cc G310 R
Production....Okay....will be German quality.
What about service??? will it be serviced next to scooty of a uncle, apache 180 and tvs xl????
Hopefully like honda and bajaj they open up a dedicated service centers too. I didn't buy a TVS apache because of the service center is pathetic although the product is brilliant.
The TVS and BMW combo is killer, but tvs needs to really concentrate on after sales service too.

Don't worry all it requires is an oil change and water wash so can be done alongside Scooty.Originally posted by amarme001 View PostProduction....Okay....will be German quality.

Re: BMW's 313cc G310 R
This is not targeted at anyone in particular; everyone is like it is a BMW, it commands a premium, it'll be built better etc. How many of you, who have said the above things have actually owned a BMW motorcycle or a CAR? Have you ever read horror stories about their electronics failing or other ownership issues including exorbitantly priced spare parts?Originally posted by RoyalIndian View PostYou should read their press release document properly. For the above statement marked in bold: Sir, we don't know if Bajaj is using machinery from Meerut but what we know is a german machine in no way ensures quality better than some other manufacturing machines; Why are Japanese machines always more reliable than their German counterparts?
You keep your faith based on what? Because the S1000RR and R1200GS are considered legendary? If you don't know BMW bike has been sold in India before and failed miserably. And before KTM had a few quality issues cropping up, a lot of poeple (who might have never owned a KTM) swore by its as you term it "faith in the brand and their quality assurance" They also have products in their portfolio that are considered really good.
I would give BMW their due, they came up with a really competitive motorcycle which looks great to my eyes. The other things, I would give my verdict only when the product comes to the market and I get to hear real world experiences and not the ones based on assumptions or brand favourism. Also, BMW has no excuse to price it way higher than the what KTM is doing, marginal price differnce can be justified but anything too much, no way!Why 2wheels over 4.....
Its because 'Whatever it is, it's better in the wind!'

Friend,Originally posted by vivek_k_p View PostI want R3 or N300 to be my next bike. But whenever I see this I am getting confused.

Just because all these bikes are having 300 cc (+/- few cc) don't try to compare them - they are quite different from each other.
1) KTM Duke 390 - Total hooligan, super fast, great price and features, rather uncomfortable till you learn to live with it, absolutely top value for money irrespective of anyone's comments - once you ride it, it will be very hard to choose anything else..
2) KTM RC390 - Somewhat calmer yet faster performer - but not very practical in day to day city commute compared to even Duke 390..
Pillion rider on both the above can only be a small kid or rather skinny girl/woman who have the guts to sit behind a fast rider - that restricts possibility of pillion rider to < 5%!!
3) Yamaha R3 - Good but not super exciting product from Yamaha - I am yet to experience this one - but it certainly lacks features and will require considerable additional investment to bring it anything close to KTM RC 390 on handling/braking because it comes with relatively simpler tyres that are not in line with this segment expectations (set very high by KTM by offering slipper clutch, ABS, Metzeler Tyres etc at a rather low price)
Maintenance of Yamaha R3 may not necessarily be cheaper than KTM Duke/RC 390.
4) Kawasaki Ninja 300 - It is more of an all-rounder - probably it might be the one most suitable for fairly long distance riding with a pillion of fairly large size. But it is the most expensive in its segment.
Both R3 and N300 are faired sporty motorcycles that are also suitable/comfortable for medium distance riding with pillion. These are fast yet relatively calm and forgiving bikes versus Duke which is absolutely crazy bike that literally urges you to go faster and faster...
But both are priced considerably higher as these are not locally made - plus they have 2 cylinders making them more refined and expensive also
5) BMW - Remains to be seen what really comes out - it does look promising - but can it beat KTM Duke 390? Only time can tell. BMW vs KTM will be the best fight of 2016!!
6) DSK Benelli 300 - Not to be ignored - this is also good looking, calm, comfortable twin cylinder fast tourer bike that can carry a large sized pillion without much trouble. Has greatest sound in this entire category. Price is on higher side but still lower than the Japanese bikes. NO ABS though...
I would say - test ride every one of the above for sufficient distance and only then decide.
