Booking amount is 500 bucks... The bike's not in the showroom yet.. Waiting period 1 week, that's what the guys at the showroom said.. Hope its true

Mileage - I didn't ask but my best guess would be around 40-45kmpl..

            • The new pulsar 180 ug4 has reved up power of 17.2ps but there is still decrease in torque by 1 nm from 15.22 to 14 .22. so will it hamper the performance ?

I agree... The P180 ug4 has definitely not been launched in Bangalore..

Yes the maximum torque has gone down by a Newton meter, but would there be any noticeable difference

I found the initial grunt on the P180 UGIV a bit less compared to the P200.. Increase of weight from 143 kg to 147 kg also adds to the initial intertia.. but as the engine spins, the bike feels zippy. The bike feels and handles like the bigger P200.

According to the report on BIKE INDIA website, there isnt much of a difference. I guess the max power is 17 and not 17.2PS..

                      • Hi Guys,

so i have this black UG IV pulsar 180. to buy the same I had to travel to my parent's place that is Hisar in Haryana.( * family friends' bajaj showroom). hope most of you remember that. originally staying in Delhi.

so to explain my abstenence, i must indicate that this Hisar is a god forsaken place when it comes to godforesaken places and it's hot like the more downtrodden districts of Hell. as soon as i got the bike, the next day i got something called "Loo". so I was bound to Bed. little did i know, that fate has prepared this cruel practical joke for me. Imagine the agony of staying in bed when you have this hot bike you just bought, standing there under the porch, and moresoever when it's the only bike of it's kind inthe town. !!!!

well that's not the only issue. i have now done around 250 kms on my bike and will assume the authority on shedding some light on the bike through personal experience.have clicked a lot of pics but don't have any way of conveying them to the web.( dad's laptop has wifi my phone has bluetooth no card slot in it and it's the only comp in house. add to this very jerk like attitude of the cyber cafes here who don't have any way of conveying data from micro sd to thier comps.)someone please give me a break!!

about the bike now. let's go step by step. i will go like a storyteller's narrative because i guess i'm pretty lousy at technical writing stuff and so the safer way out.

                        Enter The Dragon

It was more like me entering the showroom. the first thing i noticed about the bikes was there was not much to be noticed, just a bunch of black pulsars stacked together, 150's UG III, 150 UG IV , 180 UG IV duh. heartbreak + first signs of depression.

however, on a closer look, the 180 UG IV (further refrred to as "the bike") wasn't of quite the same breed but definitely a next generation product. I was given a couple of bikes , both black, to use, abuse, test ride, rip drag whatever while my parents and the owner's went into small talk and tea ceremony in the office. this is where the yahoo!! feeling started. It was happening, at last I am going to drive a bike in acountry where you don't have to go through insane tests to get motorcycle driver's permit. driving at 100 kmph on a highway is like driving at 100 MPH in a chinatown street. wow! the adrenaline rush. well i got the first bike tightened the unpromising helmet and received the first key. now the KEY , it is much better than any key i have seen on any bajaj bike. well i have seen avenger, pulsars, disco, platina, wind, and erlier version of xcd. more like a smaller vesion of what you get in middle level cars.
nice key!now the seating positions. I got on it and the tall but very sporty seating position got me at once. this is somthing new for a 180. now let me add here that taller guys will get in love atonce and though i am only 5.4" and quite overweight i must say it was strangely pleasant a tall seated sports stance. hmmm...

                        Jack the Ripper

again only me!! anybody's guess what i did to the bike, i took it lazily to the highway about a km from the showroom, brought it to a halt. stopped grinning and started ripping the bike. can't give you exact figures here but the bike felt peppy right from the start. the engine idles at around 1,5K rpm and @5000 the blast from the engine kicks in. then i was between watching the tacho and the road so didn't register the highest rpm the gears would allow. but the bike went upto an indicated 118 @ 9K .4th ear .had to slow down. (chicken!)

easy to touch 80 kmph in third gear in fact it happens very fast. my mood and attention turned to handling details. the bike feels very sturdy in a staight line the response from the tubeless 90/90 upfront is fairly precise. it goes in the corners smoothly enough but once there you immidiately feel the soft setting of the rear suspension and imidiate doubts about the bikes coenering abilities but the tubeless 120 /80 does the job well and the rubber sticks to the tarmac well. pass for now.made a mental note on adjusting the stiffness to maximum on my bike.

now the braking i took it to around 80 kmph and barked hard with both of my right limbs in synchro. and must say the braking is fair enough. more importantly, the bike doesnot sway. the bite from the front fork is OK and that's it the rear drum is well the rear drum. on the whole, braking is ok for city. pass.

so i took this bike back to the showroom and took charge of the second piece. took to an open ground nearby where all the test ride guys keep going in hisar( i have driven r15, rtr 160, fz16 on that ground.)

now generally at this moment, with pleasant weather and me alone with this bike there no souls around, you might imagine me sitting on this bike with the engine idling and the good bad and ugly tune playing in the background, i would pull out a lucky strike and have a good puff but no CHILDREN ABSTAIN FROM SMOKING !!

now after the social message deliverd, I went on ripping this bike if you keep it in the power band the bike responds very well even on short sprints. this bike felt a bit better tuned. must be the adrenaline. i can't give you any figures here i was concentrating purely on my senses now. take it to max in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear and the fourth gear unleashes raw power the digits keep changing well past triple digits and it feels like it will go on and on. but limited space had to wheelie and stoppie stuff. now the wheelie. the front easily leaves the ground in first gear to get into a wheelie but suddenly i was not so sure about pulling it up. as the wheel goes up the sitting geometry changes rapidly i was now afraid. so just placed it back. no stoppies (chicken)

It ended in my collecting the the second bike. you know if you fear it, you respect it. and love always follows.

                        • A close encounter

after parking the bike at my place a began what you would call sniffing around the bike at detail. first thing as you all know the bike's got DC lighting and instrumentation, brake lights horns etc. the horns are real horns like in horns of a fighting ram like in horny sounds. well actually they are so good all friends ask like if they are aftermarket. great horns.

the indicators are self cancelling which is great and the lights cut out after 4 seconds. ok thats good but the quality of the plastics used in handle gear is pathetic. the switch for swithcing on parking and headlights feel like it will fall apart and is having it's last breaths. dissapointing. fail

the instrument set provided had pulsar 150 written on the pouch and when I inquired of the guys at showroom about this humiliation they told me most diplomatically that both pulsars come with this one only. ( why not just write pulsar on the pouch then why pulsar 150. i smell a rat here. )it also had a first aid kit having some dressing and stick adhevise bandage like bandaid provided by a bombay company. gud that it's there but again the quality is hopeless. immidiately replaced with quality stuff. )

the clips - the clip ons are very neat and speak of high quality. I love the angle they provide and it actually does not strain the wrist as in the case of apache and more pronounced effect in the case of r15. i guess the tall seating posture helps. what i noticed over the time though is the pressure on the palms. yes the palms not the wrists and they tend to ache a bit after half an hour of driving. these very clipons now make the bike the only bajaj bike with clipons and the bikini fairing. so a sure ID if you see one on the road.

now what i don't get is the red light in the tacho which comes and goes on it's own. the showroom guys say that it indicates low petrol volume. don't think so because it goes on in high rpm as well.

the rear sets look very sexy with all the connecting mechanicals to the gear box and the short levers are terrific.

the swing arm from the avenger and the chain sprocket assembly looks very upmarket and speaks tonnes in quality. an with the o-ring chain this part is absolutely very very VFM. you can say that once again.

now guys as i have said before i am not much of a techie and can't compar eit to the UGIII 180 because never ridden one. but what i gather from forums here and elsewhere i understand that the bike has about all the goodies blokes were trying to mod onto anyway. if you leave HID apart. so this bike has lot of character of it's own more than the present 200. it looks bulier than the 200. and placed side by side to an apche and fzs looks the sturdier of the three. repeat not beeter, not prettier but i say, sturdier rest is relative of course.

if you give me what to look out for i mean some directions here, i will take her out and make a note of it. so guys please let me know what to look out for in a test ride and i will drag her, rip her and note it down. I have one profy photo friend and will ask him for a digi shoot of it aswell and then get the pics here asap.

ps: there is a little and redundant rubber prnography on the tank pretending to be anti scratch. yuks!

                          waiting guys and E.&OE

Dont exceed 6k rpm atleast as the manual recommends a speed limit of 65 kmph durin run in of 2k kms.

BTW u can post this in ownership thread.
When everything comes ur way, u r in the wrong way ;)

                            • the million dollar baby

infact the lakh rupay ka sawaal. i just about forgot. the mileage. now what i generally do to an automobile to get the fuel consumption figure iis top the tank, drive a humdred kilometres and again top the tank, but this gives you litres per 100 kms. so i decided to put thirteen litres in tank and with a reserve of 3 litres will get the kms travelled for 10 litres (which i expect to be 350 or more atleast.) so a bit early here. will let you guys know when i have them figures. an average of 40 kmpl will make me happy though.

ya sure i will do just that.
about the redline. but i warm the engine up and do this riping/raping for short terms. and let the engine rest properly after that. I have read that engines are made differently nowadays and they donot need that sort of breaking in. I offcourse belived that blindly. guess it's too late now. so you say there is nothing in that break it in fast theory?
