MG, but why would Bajaj do that when they have tough competition in the market...? their game was upping power and now they got the torque down!!!

        • @chetan-The new 180 has the same bore x stroke as the outgoing model i.e 63.5 x 56.4.

No idea but power is not everything and this is what I have realised in the last 7 months. I'm travelling a lot and what I have found is that except a few people most guys don't ride fast. The power is important to a very small section of people(Maybe 5-10% of all the performance bike buyers).

          • ^^^ True MG. But I was wondering how Bajaj compromised on showing higher numbers on the paper... that was a big part of their game so far. Every year or two you have a small face lift and a little bump in power.

I guess they wanted to create a gap between the P180 & P200 performance wise. Lets wait for the new P200's spec sheet.

Well, Bajaj could have done the other way around increase torque & reduce the power. I feel a bike with a good amount of torque is always fun to ride.

Note :- Was wondering if the KTM engineers weaved their magic on the pulsar engines .

                • I was passing by the Bajaj showroom on Bannerghatta Road. The showroom there also has the free pulsar checkup camp going on. So I took my 200 inside and they cleaned the air filter, lubed and tightened the chain and topped up the battery water etc etc.

There the new 180 was being given for test rides (VERY small in distance). So I took one and the following are my impressions formed over around 800m of riding :

                  1) The bike IS smooth. I used to think that my 200 is sufficiently smooth but Bajaj have definitely done something here, at all revs it maintains the smoothness. I have not ridden the Unicorn, I have only sat pillion on one once, and the vibrations felt (through the seat, anyway) were the same as felt on the new 180. So I cannot compare the two. But it is definitely better than my 200, vibe-wise.

                  2) Torque has gone down, but I felt this noticeably as I keep my bike around the 4k rpm mark and on this you have to rev higher to keep it at cruising speed. Perhaps I'm being influenced by my 200 here...

                  3) Fit and finish is near about the same...felt no difference but the standard black silencer is one clear differentiator from this bike and the 200. (Or so i feel). But the exhaust pipe is black as well, as well as thinner in diameter.

                  4) Damn those front forks look good and so do the clip-ons. I am now thinking of the spare parts cost for getting the same on to my old 200.
No way to test lights, DC or not, in the day.

The Bajaj guys have no idea how more PS is being extracted from the same 180 cc mill. One was talking about the Ninja..said within 3-4 months. He also mentioned a Pulsar - 350. On asking if this was twin cylinder, he got confused on the 'cylinder?' part. I guess he does not know anything concrete.

Oh, and anyone wanting a free tune-up for their bikes (Pulsars only, avengers, XCD's etc etc not allowed) can go to this place..there's some Valvoline Engine oil promotion going on...

                    now about the bike........

                        • Day before yesterday i took a spin with p180 ug4, man i am amazed with bajaj with a such smooth engine. what i like is the extended wheelbase, bigger tyres, increased power but felt the lowend torque little missing that previous version & not to mention got some weight which pretty makes a highway bike rather than city but can manage in city also.
IMO this new p180 ug4 will be VFM esp in city & highways
