What does standard testing condition for fuel efficiency mean?
    1. Ambient Temperature not exceeding 18 C to 24 C
    2. No load on the engine, standard level ground
    3. Soft throttle opening and a continuous overdrive run on a dyno
    4. No aerodynamic drag (since its mounted on a dyno)
    5. Roller preset to negligible load.
    6. Usually a bottle test - results in higher mileage (no idea why)
    7. Ideal vehicle condition - includes a pre-run in engine, proper tyre inflation and no accessories.

These conditions, figures, parameters may vary from Agency to Agency; but what should be noted is that we usually never ride in ideal conditions.

In theory, some books recommend that the fuel efficiency claims can be reduced by almost 35% for a real world figure...

Thankfully the performance testing is not carried out on the dyno in many cases.
I dont think we needed an ARAI to tell us what USTC FE figures would be. The manufacturers are more than competent about telling us those 100+ figures. What we needed was a more realistic highway / city figures which were clearly distinguishable. We dont need ARAI to tell us P220 can give avg of 56kmpl, Bajaj can do that very well. ARAI was made, I suppose, to protect the customers from misleading manufacturer figures, and give out a more fair perspective.

Meanwhile, any news on Maharashtra RTO clearance?
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

    • WTF is goin' on with Maharashtra RTO....am gettin' restless....all over India..the bike is sellin' big time.. even small towns in other states have owners of the bike......but the Maharashtra guys don't even have a clear cut idea as to when are they goin' to get that much awaited RTO nod....
they have just one answer whenever you call them up....."May be today"...
This is limit of ignorance on the part of the sales guys...

Unfortunately, all manufacturers use STC figures to lure customers in their showrooms.

On the other note, consumers have become smarter and do not really look at manufacturer claimed figures. Pretty balanced I would say.

            • Touring Friendly Riding Position of the P220 DTSi

Checked out the 2009 P220 DTSi again today.. the handlle bars are slightly higher compared to the older ones, resulting in a more relaxed riding posture.

The riding position is still much sporty than the Karizma but it is also more relaxed and comfortable than the older P220 DTS-Fi.. I personally liked the position on the new one..

Would try to find out if it would be possible to modify the same on my bike.. the new riding position is definitely much more comfortable for touring.

Will post a detailed ride impression later..

                Even i felt the same.
i also find new 220 has more turning radius.
Tried comparing both handlebars ( old 220 and new 220)
found more turning angle in new 220.
even in test ride found it to be more than old 220.
                can anyone comfirm.
