        • Guys a saree guard is mandatory under the motor vehicle act and there is no escaping it. You can always get it removed if need be.

Edit: the code is hinting that we might see the new Comet in India soon! Mahindra's best kept secret!!

They are just taking the prices off the Thai/US sites and converting them into rupees. The whole thing is getting so much hyped that it ain't funny anymore. I am expecting a huge backlash (partially due to stupidity on the bikers part of assuming prices) if Bajaj prices this on the wrong side. Fingers crossed...
err, dude no one has assumed this price of 1.5 to 2L out of thin air. an article in a very reputed business publication mentioned this price as if it came right from bajaj's mouth and if bajaj or someone else thought it was incorrect, they should have had them print a retraction.

i don't know why people are still discussing this stupid price issue, let the damn thing come out and then whoever wants to buy it will buy it and the rest can keep cribbing.

there is nothing of any hidden news sort of thing in the webpage. those who design websites would know that its the image description in html coding that needs to tagged with every image. last images on xbhp front page was about hyosungs and probably sunny copy pasted the image on that html page, so please don't excite yourself and rather watch porn. :P

                    • Too much expectation on the price front. I just hope that the dreams are not shattered once the actual price is announced on 7th and we start cribbing Bajaj for pricing it higher.

Well, since it is coming from Bajaj, there are huge expectations on the price. The fact that it has taken so long for them to finally launch the bike in India should be an indication of how carefully they would have thought out the pricing. Let's assume, for a moment, that I was the guy in-charge of the Ninja 250R project at Bajaj. I would then be looking at two things:

                              1) Short term pricing strategy using the CKD model and long term profitability when the Ninja 250 goes into local production, say, somewhere around 2010 end.
                              2) Competitive response to the Ninja 250R - the market landscape for the quarter litre segment in 2010-2011.

In the short term, Bajaj might actually end up making wafer-thin or no margins by selling the bike below Rs.2 lakhs. But in the past one year or so, the engineers would have taken the bike apart at their factory and done calculations on how much money the bike will make at Rs.2 lakhs if they import all the dies and molds and make parts locally. When they have done that, it could be a strategic decision to make no money for the first one year, but start getting profitable beginning 2011, when all the costs of production tools are amortized. They will also know that competitive pricing will result in higher numbers, leading to faster amortization of jigs and greater absolute profit.
The other thing is that they cannot look at the Ninja in isolation - they have to foresee what the future will bring in terms of the competition. The quarter litre scene is hotting up, and the coming months will see a high likelihood of other 250's being launched. Those competitors (Hyosung, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki) will look to price their motorcycles aggressively to outsell the Ninja's. So if Bajaj decides to price the 250R higher, for example Rs.2.5 lakhs, some other brand is going to end their party soon with a 250 which costs below 2 lakhs. When that happens, Bajaj would have to drop their prices anyway if they want to do any serious business. So better to do it now and then have everyone else try hard to play catch up!

Trust me, if this bike sells for below Rs.2 lakhs, there will be a lot of bikeheads (including me) who will buy this. Times have changed - people these days think nothing of spending 30k on just a mobile phone...

                              • now it probably decided that price is going beyond 2lacks .the showroom person said that it is between 2.5 to 3 lacks.the bike is also available for display in probiking and kothroud workshop in pune.
