Finally you are singing a different tune Mr. tiwari.
From the beginning I have been wishing and thinking of a price that is say upto 2.25. Calling 3 lakhs a high price isnt a different tune if you read my previous posts carefully.

Problem here is you are quoting price verbatim. We aren't aware of the specifics i.e. cost price to Bajaj, % of import duty, other taxes/octrois/margins. Besides that there is no comparison benchmark for the price since the bike is the first in it's segment. I know the comet is there but it's old, there has been no announcement regarding the new Comet. Even so Hyosung was/is a non premium brand and the current Au price for the GT250R is pretty close to the Ninja 250R. With that in mind and the mess that is the Indian import duty structure the price is right. Now only if Bajaj plan to produce this locally asap. We should get a decent quarter litre bike for under 2L.Originally posted by ashutosh_x View PostI am surely not an expert but what I feel is that if you are paying a 3+ price for a 250cc machine (Ninja in particular), then you are simply ending up giving whole lot of money to the govt as import duty.
If the import duty is not that high, then I am wondering how assembling hiked the price to so much.
Essentially, what we are paying for is not for the machinary but we are paying a bulk of money for other things which have nothing to do with the quality of the bike or its performance.

Yep Wheelspin bro,
As I said, I aint no expert and whatever I have suggested is from what I guessed about the import etc. Like, for instance I was aware that yamaha R1 costs around 5 lakhs in USA and after importing it as a CBU, its cost goes to around 10.5 in India.
I thought CKD, that too from Thailand might reduce the price a bit but from the quotes, it appears that there hasnt been any difference made at all.
What I am wondering is - What would be the price if Bajaj imported the bike as a CBU? Would it then cost 4 lakhs..and would that in turn imply that the original cost in a foreign country would be just under 2 lakhs?
I am just trying to understand the calculations, and the way it all works, for my knowledge.

Yes bro...Originally posted by BANDHAV View PostI agree, but you were pretty sure about its being priced lower than what i was repeatedly suggesting.
All from my guesses and logic with limited knowledge I have. Still, as I repeated before, I am keen on knowing how it works so that I could know about the upcoming imports/ckds/cbus that are lined up for the future.

Look at the bright side, guys! If the Ninja is between 2.5 and 3 L's, you can now invest all of the 2 lakhs which you were planning to spend on the Ninja! Even the stock market is booming, so it is a great time to park your extra cash!
But I will still stand by the price which I initially quoted....Last edited by bluevolt; 10-05-2009, 06:53 PM.

^^Oh you too join the party
.
Edit: Oh no you are still singing the same tune. Traslation: you are still day dreaming.
PS: bluevolt, what ever you are high on, that stuff is pretty hard as its effect seems to be lasting more than it should have.Last edited by BANDHAV; 10-05-2009, 06:56 PM.

Its ok dude. If my marriage hadn't got fixed recently I would have been paying the advance for this bike. But I'm not gonna crib about it.Originally posted by Wheel_Spin View Post@Sarvajit: I can feel your pain bro but the small steps are going to snowball soon and exponentially. @BANDHAV: A meaningful question- Can we expect localization/price cuts after the initial lot of 200 bikes have been sold out?Quench my thirst with gasoline!

A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.
Always be ready (get geared) to fall and then think of sitting on the motorcycle.
