hey fireblah as you said it subsides from time to time, whats the situation now, is it still time to time or permanent

    • There is a slight permanent reduction, and other than that it keeps coming and going ....

      • holy cow

Was cruising at 50-60 today ... saw a calf running from the left of the road to right ... so i steered a bit right... and suddenly another one popped infront from the right !!!!
Slammed the brakes HARD ! ABS kicked in trying to balance the brakes and preventing the wheels to lock... anyway, it was too close.. hit the calf from the right of the bike.. thot this is it ... this is gonna cost me a few lakh of repairs.... the calf (he was as high as the handle bar) fell flat but miraculously I did not fall , instead just stopped dead straight......
The calf got up and was limping a bit, so i went ahead.... thanking my stars .....
As for bike, I stopped a few hundred meters ahead to inspect, there was not a single sign of collision, except some marks on the front tyre, and the right air intake has a point which is slightly displaced....

This is wat is called panic braking. Even i had quite a close shaves escaping from panic braking.

Its something like, you try as you can, then your mind thinks of getting ready for the consequences, and out of blue, you and your bike come out scratchless.

You better thank your ABS than your stars.

          • Holy Cow....pun intended.

Glad you and the bike are fine. God bless those ABS brakes.
Here is one more reason to always gear up before riding.
The other day i tried to sling shot this really slow moving car in 40 MPH zone.
I was up to 70 when i whizzed past him and steered in front of him...suddenly the signal in front of me turned red. I braked and..maybe the bike went over some oil spilled on the road.......the bike began to fish tail....so i released the brakes for a second..and hit em again....again it did that. I was freaking out..cause i was probably just a stone throw away from the light. Anyway....i did manage to stop......i thanked my brakes....thanked god...and gave the R6 a pat....
            phew girl....that was close"

P.S. Fish tailing is one heck of an experience.

            • @Fireblah: So, the ABS did kick in and I am sure it was one of the most important factor that made sure that the 1000RR did not skid. Any other superbike, and the result could have been disastrous, who knows!
              :)

exactly. Not sure of what would have happened to other super bikes though.

Yeah , i think panic braking is one of the common causes for bike accidents (past experience included).. yeah , thank ABS

                  • for an inexperienced rider without the braking technique, disk brakes can be a fair handful when you just grab at them , locking the front wheel and sending you flying. im sure the abs helped there but you also need to learn the right braking technique which is setup and squeeze

it a 2 part technique which when you have some practise will become second nature and make hard stops pretty easy

when you need to brake, lightly squeeze the brake lever till you take the slack out of it and they just start to bite. then you can gradually increase force and brake as hard as you want while rolling your wrist to twist back the accelerator to the start position.

the key is to be fluid and not jutterry. with some practise you will be amazed how quickly you can do it. and its a technique used from street riding to motogp racing

Yes, I did learn this on my training with Honda, that is setup and squeeze(i use this technique) . I know exactly how amazingly this works. But then again, this was a panic brake situation as i had no anticipation of the calf suddenly appearing in front of me, so all training went for a toss...

It's called taper braking and if you ride a big bike, you HAVE to learn it.

Practice makes it instinctive and it's instinct that kicks in when you panic. You need to spend a few dozen hours over a longish period of time (say 2 weeks) for your brain to start registering it as an automatic, decisionless action. go to an empty road and pretend theres a cow in the middle! then practise tapering the brakes. Shame we don't have any decent riding schools in india, given the growing number of big bikes here.

                        • ^^ right said mate ... got to practice it alot of times, so that it comes instinctively.
And hey, your location made me nostalgic.... I did my engineering from Bharti Vidyapeeth Kharghar ... there used to be drags there... amazing roads at kharghar . First time i saw a maruti Zen beating the crap out of esteems and even a baleno !! hahaha (later found out that zen was turbo charged)... sigh .. i miss that place

Thats where they have illegal as well as legal events like Speed Run and Torquenite.

Whats the update on the Blade? All this is very unlike Honda build quality! I have never even seen a grey market Honda with such problems. This is not what anyone deserves for spending almost 14L. Are you taking their case or not?? I know I would.

                            • Finally I'm back on this thread. My internet connection was down, so it was like I'd been cut off from the rest of the world....

So, Fireblah, still encountering the problem? And would it be possible that the first problem you had encountered is happening again? The one where it was supposedly a 'loose connection in one of the injectors'?
                              You get the point?? :D

                              • yea thats why i recommend doing it every time when you brake. even if its slowing down slowly . after a while you wont really know any other way. but practise on an empty road will help as well!
