From what I have heard is that the initial batch had the block kit from Japan and their compression is much better than the later. Another is, since the internal parts are supposedly from Japan they performed really well also resulted in butter smooth ride (correct me if I'm wrong).

          true?

This is the real funny story I have been hearing for a very long time.

The RX NEVER came in 125 cc or 113 cc or ANYTHING else but 98cc.

I have a May 1985 Workshop Manual to prove it ....

Did u know that in the first lot Owner's Manuals, the Power and Torque figures were not mentioned?

They are in the workshop manuals though ...

Also in the 1985 version, power is given as 11 PS and in the later versions it is 11bhp. That is the only difference . Period

Any one who claims more than 11bhp and 98cc should prove it ...

The part, where u guys think that Jap engined bikes were smoother is true to a certain degree ....

Pistons, say, for eg, were first ART, then Escorts-Mahle, and are now Goetz(From Escorts Mahle).

Also the later pistons are cast and not made by forging ... so the quality is different.

PS: This is not my arrogance that has prompted me to use such strong language, but my sheer exasperation at the misinformation floating around and the poor victims who suffer due to it.

Hope u guys see where I am coming from.

U R right Sri and Arun,

Not too many people have noticed this, but the barrel is punched with a letter (between A and E.) near the exhaust port

Right side when viewed from the front.

The A types had the closest tolerances, and hence, better compression ...

the E types had the largest tolerances (of course the difference was in microns)

Also this letter on the exhaust port was matched with the same letter piston and ring combo at the factory.

But this only mattered at the std size piston... On rebore, it will not make a difference.

<bet all of u would scurry down to see the letter, I did it too when I saw it 1st time in the workshop manual >

You have 1985 version workshop manual?? Sorry, I don't know if 100 came in 1985. I thought the bike came in late 1986.

Oh yes, I'm going to childhood to do some serious research to see.

Damn! Its RARE sight to spot the initial batch RX running in my city.

Yes, I have 4 different (with different Content) workshop manuals only for RX100.

The 1st is dated May 1985. Last is 1996, lust before the RXG was launched.

I have HEARD of a bike in Mumbai from Nov 1985 and I have SEEN a bike from Feb 1986.

I had an RX100 dated Sept 30, 1986 which had "Rajdoot" the badge all over...

The 2T oil pump cover, speedometer, tail lamp, and indicators .. etc...

(If this matches info on the wikipedia article on RX100, it is coz I wrote it originally ... I am tired of changing the "Top speed = 100" over and over again ... coz people keep changing it to 120 ... )

If the 1986 bike had Rajdoot badging, ,maybe the '85 ones were "Yamaha" badging

SO I am guessing Nov 1985 does not sound too unrealistic ...

My mech also says that in some parts they had released a cb-points version of the RX100 before the cdi one and that it had a smaller (9 ltr instead of 10.5 ltr) tank and that the company quickly recalled it to give out the cdi kit ones

But I will believe it when I see it ... (I have seen a 1982 rx100 points model, but it was an import .... nice bike)

                      • The bullet disc with hub would be the best fit ( if you can source the one from the CL 500 ). Since the old bullet is 19 inch front, and the new CL 500 18 inches front. ( hub spokes vary ( 40 for 19 inches, and 36 for 18 inches ).

What I heard from my brother(First owner of my 1986 model RX-100) is, Japan RX-100 s are with more than 98cc. I have the original Owners hand book dated 19-08-1986 in which engine displacement is mentioned as 98cc but bhp is not mentioned in it. He told me that the original engine displacement differs from whats written in handbook, it is written as 98 cc only because of some govt policies and rules/ some other reasons existed that time.

Anyway I'm not sure about this(Engine displacement and BHP)...

As SriramEfunds said and from my experience there is no doubt on the build quality of Japan RX-100 and spares sold during that time, My bike is perfect piece of example.

In Flasher Lights (except one:-front right) and Brake Light of my bike it is written as 'Rajdoot India', in speedometer too('RAJDOOT'). I dont know upto which year they sold spares written 'Rajdoot India'. But the thing is that color got faded for the replaced flasher light(front right) and the 'Rajdoot India' lights still looks good not even faded 1%. So its clear what will be the total build quality of bike that time...
