Amongst these optimus-M any given day
    1) Higher Capacity and also comes with expansion and compression feature
    2) Multi-functional- Can be used as a tail, tank and backpack
    3) Most important check the magnets of the Optimus bags they have put together some 4-5 smagnets to make an assembly of 1 magnet-panel and each bag have 5 such panels so in all you get 25 magnets to make sure there is no dispalcement, while the cramster and the dirtsack ones have the same old small magnets. (Which corrode over a period of time)

    Hi Astrix
    1) I have measured volume of Fly and Optimus side by side using thermocole balls. It measured 19.5 Units on the Fly expanded and 24.5 Units expanded on the Optimus. Which means if the Fly 20L as advertised, Optimus should be around 25L max against the 31L as advertised. Higher but not as big they say.
    2) The same multi functionality is available in fly too. To convert it as a backpack on the fly, all you have to do is pull out the shoulder straps from its pocket and shove it back when you are done. Whereas on the Optimus, you will have to unzip the magnetic base completely and store it somewhere to use the shoulder straps.
    3) ViaTerra uses 6 small neodymium magnets per disc(three discs per bag). Rynox uses 5 single ferrite magnets according to there website. From the touch and feel of it from the outside, to me it feels like a single big magnet. Can you please show the source where you got the information from?

You can try Sahyadri motors at Thane...from what I have seen on YouTube, they have done it for dominant, ns, cbr etc.

              Hello Guys !!

I am planning for a 5 month ride across the country starting from Feb 10th 2018 on my CBR 250 (https://www.xbhp.com/talkies/tourer/...s-1-rider.html) . I had spent decent time reading through various threads and blogs related to touring luggage . Requesting you to give inputs in helping to choose the right gear for my needs.

Overall i have calculated that i will be requiring 150 Litres of storage on my bike for the Solo Wheels Project. Here are the few requirements from my side :

              1) Tank Bags : -I somehow dont like the idea of installing a huge tank bag . I have tried it once and i believe it kind of spoils the entire riding experience. I know that there are great benefits of a tank bag (Like easy access -specially for a DSLR camera) , but still i cant get over the stigma. Please let me know if there are any tank bag of small size (Like to accommodate may be few pieces of chocolate ,a wallet ,a diary and a 7 inch Tablet)

2)Saddle Bags :- Based on online research and inputs from few of my friends. The choice was easy for me - Rynox Nomad V2.0 . I like its design ,storage capacity and it blends well with the overall design of my CBR. One query -Is saddle stay recommended for a long trip like this ?

3)Tail Bags : -This is the tricky one. Many-Many people have recommended and the viaterra claw /I am super impressed by its storage capacity and the durability . However since i am already taking a Saddle v2.0 , i doubt it wont be possible to mount the claw again on the pillion seat. If anybody has used both claw (On the pillion seat ) and Rynox saddles simultaneously, please let me know.

4)Luggage Rack :- I am getting a luggage rack on the tail ,similar to the one shown below

1)Will i be able to mount the viaterra claw or similar design bags on this ( If so ,my entire 150 Ltrs requirement can be met by saddle +Claw combinations)

2)What about other tails bags like Rynox Optimus T tail bag and Viaterra Raptor ??.Which will be the best to mount on such a luggage rack

PS :- Not a fan of Tail Boxes :-)

              TIA

You can use rynox tank bag as tail bag along with the saddle bags....plus point is you can use it as tank bag or tail bag or back pack as and when required..the storage is huge :-)

                  Hey!
                  1. Since your requirement is a smaller one, you can consider Rynox Navigator 3.0 (15 litres) and Viaterra Oxus 2017 (13 litres). Navigator is small enough(larger on paper) for the items that you have specified. Since this is a 5 month long trip, you might end up adding stuff on the way as well, in that case Oxus is slightly larger. Best is to go to a store and decide for yourself.

                  2. For the peace of mind its always better to have a saddle bag stay for a trip this long.

                  3. Claw with Nomad, the fit wont be a problem as its soft luggage but it will look like you are trying to move your house . I will suggest slightly smaller Claw mini or Raptor for the tail.

                  4. Both should fit without an issue. But if you are getting a tail rack made, try it for a decently long ride with luggage on it before starting the trip.

I am going to get the Saddle stay and the Luggage rack fitted ,then look further .

Yes Claw + Nomad v2.0 would be an overkill..

64 Litre Saddle v2.0 + 15 Litre tank bag +34 Litre of say Viaterra raptor on the rack. Rest i guess i will be able to sneak inside a back pack !!

                    Thanks a lot man !!

                      1) Go with the Saddle Stay. It is something that is must for a long trip like the one you plan for. Be it any bag.
                      2) Rather than any other tailbag. Go with the Rynox Expedition Trailbag.

I recently got it.It seemed functional on and off the bike and thus felt like investing in it.
(Don't have the Nomad bags though)But it blends well with the Nomad is what I understand. Expedition Trailbag can be used as a tailbag..and have used it on my regular travels by flight or train too.. Converts to a backpack. Its also 100% water proof.

Yes. The detachable zip is not YKK, however, have used the product for quite some time and have not faced any issue with the same.

The straps no longer come with hooks, so their Optimus Mounting video on youtube is no longer valid. They asked me to check the mounting of the expedition trail bag mounting video which has the same type of strap. I had messaged them on facebook.

Check out the Rynox Expedition trailbag.

Have be using the Rynox Expedition Trailbag. The bag provides a capacity of ~40L and most importantly it is 100% waterproof. No need of rain cover. Have used it off the bike for other trips with family in car or flight as it’s multi-purpose (Tailbag-Dufflebag-Backpack).
