Dear Sajit,
i bought it for Rs480/.before buying it i went to ape authorised service and requested for spare,they told me that they will fix it by themself and wanted me to bring the auto,i somehow fooled them telling its in garage and old rr lost somewhere after it has been removed by mechanic for repair.they charged me rs1140,and gave me a old rr unit,which was also out of pack,it was also not new,so i requested them to give me a new rr unit with sealed pack,they were not ready and they told me that it is out of stock,so i fought with them,got my money back,went in search of ape rr,but it is not in stock anywhere and in shops they say due to high cost,no body buys it and so they dont have stock.i dont mind spending a few hundred bugs xtra,if someone can get original ape rr for me,thanks,

The thing is not only APE guys, every SVC are not encouraging the OE spare sales as its really affecting the service. They've invested big money for the infrastructures and more qualified people to service but our beloved Dhaba service guys are charging less and more people have a leaning tendancy towards it bcz of the economic service. Personally I am also a fan of this if the Dhaba mechanic is a qualified one, so that he can set it right with OE parts but these species are rare now. People will work under a SVC and after 2-3 years he will setup a work shop with his friends who are also not having exposure to do the job.

Here also thats the case, its tough to get the OE from the SVC unless u've some one known to them. Check out that Lucas have this RR and if its there there's nothing wrong in using it. But for just 480/- its bit difficult, as the OE is costing around 1.2K now and why should the third party component should reduce the cost to one third?

U cud've bought the opened package as its OE and nothing to worry about the packing. For every single doubt these people will test the electricals with their spare stock and being its nearly out of stock, u got an opened one which may be a tested piece, if anything wrong also u cud approach them for the refund.

Yes,i also felt the same when i realised how difficult it is to get the spare from ape authorised service. but now since i have argued and got a refund, the guy there is not going to give me the spare.and regarding the lumax auto technologies ltd,the website doesnt show rr in its product database.what i have bought is lumax and sorry if had posted it as lucas.i have told my friend in coimbatore to try for the spare there,but it will take some time,
if i dont get it finally,i will become mad and will definitely assemble the rr on my own,then i will post pictures and design for that,if you need to do any electronics projects,let me know,i will be able to give you many design ideas,using electronics,including designing,pcb making etc.i have made lot of electronics projects,iam an engineering graduate in electronics and communication passed out in 1996.nice for you reply,thanks for sharing,

When bangalore rains screwed up my RR unit! It was not protected and was just kept under the seat.

Hi, if you think of going that way, I have already made a custom RR unit. There is a thread on it too on the forum. It has the circuit diagrams. It may help you. BTW, the design is reliable - I used it for over a year until rain water shorted it out!

Hi, if you think of going that way, I have already made a custom RR unit. There is a thread on it too on the forum. It has the circuit diagrams. It may help you. BTW, the design is reliable - I used it for over a year until rain water shorted it out!

but what will be the charging voltage(floating voltage at no load)?12 volt?or 14.5volt??i think you can to put a preset in between point 7 and r4 so that you can vary the voltage?am i correct?

thanks for your link,but this afternoon i again went in search of ape rr,to the same shop,where they told me out of stock,today to my surprise,he gave me a rr unit manufactured by greaves cotton limited,with same part number-22158,with mrp:rs1144.66,the part was appealing,he said greaves cotton limited is the manufacturer who supplies piaggio and other companies,what he said was correct.he also offered a discount and i bought it for Rs980.i checked it with 16volt ac input from a transformer,it gives 14.3 volt in output.where as the lumax ape rr gives 15.5 volt outputiam going to proceed with greaves cotton rr.any way thanks for your posts.i will post pictures when completed,till then bye.keep in touch.

Yes, with APE RR, battery should be there before cranking, else, it may give weird output. Being with a digital ignition your bike wont start without a battery or RR, but this one will work only with a battery which is another bottle neck but not neccessary to be a good one, weak one will also do the job. Properly winded coils and APE RR, u wont notice that ur battery is worn out and u can even light up a HID with this weak battery.

Abhi, being with the AC+DC RR for some time, the RR was not letting more current to the battery as the diodes used in that circuit was less rated. What if we replace the diodes with 4X6A?

That should help. Are the diodes getting hot? If yes, then its good to replace. Anyways, with ungrounding done, around 30W can be expected at higher rpms. Rest is loss during conversion.
